  1. I would have bet good money on a Bulls Crusaders final. How wrong I was. And who says a fetcher doesn't have a role to play in determining the outcome of a game because of the new breakdown laws? Smith was pure class.
  2. His return will be tough, and at best into the Province/Stormers squad. Doubt he'll rise to national honours again.
  3. And they're all rolling on the floor laughing because we were too stupid to know what ROFL was!
  4. That will make a big difference. And the fact that it's on a Saturday. Should be a nice "gees" at the finish, as people won't be rushing home so soon.
  5. Looks like it. Just finalising an accommodation quote and looks like we're set to go. Need something to shock me out of my post-Sani winter slump, what with W2W lying in wait within 3 months.
  6. Seems the key to all these proposals is bike sharing. Been going for decades in Holland. Seeing it increasingly in the big cities like London (branded by Barclays I think) and New York. And I saw tender documents a week or so back from Durban Municipality to advise on a bike sharing and implementation scheme from the private sector. Should work in SA, as we have a lot of involuntary bike sharing. Just kidding. Not sure I'd like a shared bike to commute. Set up, own preferences, etc.
  7. Would somebody please remind me what or who ROFL is?
  8. I think you being on your HT might have also taken its toll. You and your dad did well. Maybe see you there!!
  9. Forgot to add - a fantastic setting and event. Highly recommended. May yet return this year to get my revenge.
  10. I hope they extend the cut-off this year, now that the event is on the Saturday (was on a Sunday last year). Realistically they should allow for 8 - 8.5 hours to allow for your below-average weekend warriors like me. The need will certainly be there with a larger amount of entrants. I bailed at about 95km last year after 6 hours, knowing I wouldn't do 20km in an hour (and because I was knackered).
  11. Koeberg in the mist yesterday ...
  12. http://www.sport24.co.za/Rugby/Super15/Brussow-boosts-Bok-claims-20130722 Cape Town - According to Die Burger, although Cheetahs openside flank Heinrich Brüssow unfortunately didn't get a win against the Brumbies on his birthday, he once again underlined his Springbok credentials. The Cheetahs lost their Super Rugby qualifier against Jake White's Brumbies side 15-13 in Canberra on Sunday, but emerged with credit from the game in a battling performance in which they scored to two tries and prevented the Brumbies from breaching their tryline. Brüssow has been the subject of intense scrutiny this year after question marks were raised regarding whether he is a penalty liability under the new breakdown laws, after Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer failed to select him for the Springboks in this year's Incoming Series against Scotland, Samoa and Italy. Brüssow's underlined his ability to win key turnovers and slow down opposition ball as he successfully blunted the oppositions' attack several times. He finished the match with the most tackles (11) for a forward and four turnovers, with one of them resulting in a try for his team, and kept his opposite number George Smith in check for much of the game. Although he gave away two penalties during the match, replays revealed that on both occasions he had been harshly and incorrectly penalised by match referee Glen Jackson. Cheetahs coach Naka Drotske reserved special praise for Brüssow after the game. "Brüssow was very unfortunate to be penalised once or twice (against the Brumbies). He showed again against the Blues and the Brumbies how he can almost single-handedly win a match for the team." Brüssow showed he would have been the perfect back-up for Francois Louw in the Springbok No 6 jersey, but he will now be unavailable for the Springboks during the Rugby Championship as he joins up with the Docomo Red Hurricanes in Japan before returning to the Cheetahs for their 2014 Super Rugby campaign.
  13. I'll always put national pride before provincial pride. Go Bulls!!
  14. Good synopsis. I thought ref was very inconsistent at the breakdown. Brussow's penalty was never coming in from the side, and then Brumbies 4 lock knocked the ball out of Cheetahs hand during driving maul from offside position which was given as knock-on to Brumbies. Those two blunders and then Willie le Roux's crazy inside pass to no-man's land and subsequent offside was just shocking. Pretorius also showed BMT when he substituted Piet van Zyl. Latter has been off his A-game since Bok selection. Probably the best result for SA rugby though. I back Bulls to beat Brumbies and Crusaders to beat Chiefs, for a Bulls Crusaders final at Loftus. Bring it on!!!
  15. Right. Arm doors and cross check. Key aspects today will be: 1. Breakdown - Smith vs Brussow 2. Flyhalf - place kicks and tactical kicks. 3. Line outs - Cheetahs have looked vulnerable the last three outings. 4. Inside centre 5. The match officials and marginal decisions. GO CHEETAHS!!
  16. Crusaders dominant!! Looking like strong contenders for the title!!
  17. Apologies for this hijack, but can anybody clarify or confirm whether cyclists are indeed allowed on the promenade? I know they had a trial window which extended to January, but never heard what happened after that. I hate that suicide run from the putt putt traffic lights to the other side of the pool. I far prefer using the promenade.
  18. Better check what your partner's been up to ....
  19. I hope it's summer, because if it ain't that Apple's gonna fry on the central heating system.
  20. Do you disagree or agree? I've always valued your input. Onthou, ek weeg n goeie 97kg's, en wil ook graag "upgrade".
  21. Call me old-fashioned but if I wanted to be challenged with my navigational skills (i.e. ability to use and understand GPS devices) I would do adventure racing, not multi-stage MTB events (or even same day events). Bloody hell, it takes me longer than most to finish a day, after which I must find my tent, unpack my box, clean my bike, shower, have a beer, and now also worry about charging my GPS?? One of the reasons I still use a Polar device is the fact that I don't have to re-charge it too often. Like I said, call me old-fashioned. But I guess I'll get with the programme and buy a GPS if needs be. But this just keeps raising the barriers to entry for doing organised MTB events, especially stage races. But if the market is over-subscribed, who am I to complain? As they say in non-accounting terms - FIFO.
  22. Interesting proposal - so what you saying is 14 games each season, of which 7 at home and 7 away? And then alternate home and away fixtures each year. I like.
  23. As the most loyal Cheetahs supporter, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned that the Cheetahs only beat the Stormers on the log because they didn't play against the Brumbies or Crusaders. It's one of the major problems I have with the current format, that not all teams get to play each other at all, let alone play each other at home and away. I can very clearly understand Coetzee's frustration, as it has more to do with the draw than with coaching style.
  24. Funny how most cyclists tend to over-invest in front white lights and under-invest in back red lights.
  25. Is there a dedicated thread discussing GPS-dedicated MTB events? Seems to be a growing trend.
