  1. thank you' date=' very well said! [/quote'] cyclist to keep left , ride in single file on roads with no shoulder = common sense, something most of our local pros don't have.
  2. the best is to name and shame them.
  3. i never experience bad service at CL because i never shop there.
  4. Elites, u23's and Juniors are the only categories recognised by UCI or national body all other age categories are dependent on demand. the dates are 10-12 March for Elites etc and 28-30 May for Vets and u10-16's in Oudtshoorn. i believe they will be using the Volmoed circuit which is "flat".
  5. A classic is all about the elite category (men and women), all other categories are side shows, because there is a demand from the cycling population to categorise the race into age groups other than elite. you can compare our classics to the euro spring classics where there is just the "open elite" race, here in rsa the organisers accomodate the various age categories and fun ride sections because it covers their costs and sponsorship funds and there isn't an oversupply of elite racing cyclists as in Europe.
  6. Jeep tracks are boring to ride. Technical ascents are great fun to ride. A lot of races and courses have super technical single track uphills. Jeep tracks are for.........JEEPS!!! well the look on this blokes face as i flashed past was priceless
  7. Anarchic?!!! hahaha. No, Tokai is not anarchic, people just ride and don't whinge about 'international rules'. Just pass each other the easiest way possible for both parties. How boring to have trails that are uni-directional. If you can go both ways on a trail then it gives you 2 trails to ride. They should hand out nappies at the gate for all these rule makers. Just ride, pass, go home, eat your noodles until you come across me, who is not familiar with the s/track. have been once to tokai and once to jonkershoek they are ok becos you can see ahead of you but magic forest have some blind corners and nowhere to dodge. it was pure fate that i missed some ou coming up, the track splits for a bout a metre after a blind corner (don't know tech term) i always choose to go left and he was on the right, 2 seconds earlier or later we would have said howzit. can't understand why he would want to ride up that particular section as there is a great climb on a wide jeep track barely 20 metres away adjacent to the s/track.
  8. you mtb'ers are wierd
  9. my apologies , its on the CSA website - 10 - 12 the March for Elite / juniors/ u23's and Women and then 28 - 30 May for youth and masters (must mean vets). all in Oudtshoorn.
  10. so is anyone from CSA going to confirm deny that the champs will be taking place 10 - 12 March in O'hoorn and other categories will be in 2 / 3rd May in the same place.
  11. i think this is absolutely disgusting and it seems as this was a concerted effort by someone to sabotage your ride.
  12. i don't know if this is a rant or a rave to have the champs in March in Oudtshoorn. damm hot
  13. here goes, hopefully my memory's still sharp. Tokai - Cyclelab, every Saturday morning Constantia - Club 100, every Sat & Sun morning City Bowl - Bowmans Cycles will tell you of the City Bowl Mon 2 Fri rides (5.00am start)
  14. the difference between top cyclists is not in the weight of the equipment or the best training methods as they all have access to that , the difference is in their mental capacity to suffer (brain) and i suppose PD's. butafly2008-11-29 12:56:45
  15. used Whasp on the DC. difficult to assess the effect on performance becos the event is just a grind up one hill and down the other. was pleasantly surprised that my legs are feeling great and will resume my training as per normal today even though i was really really tired directly after finishing the DC.
  16. Neotel had many ex capies in their team - nice to see that two of the more mature riders had the decency to attend the prize giving.
  17. this makes sense then that there were so many juniors from cyclelab ........still imho youngsters don't need to go thru that mental barrier yet. they need to enjoy/play at that age and in dc no-one enjoys last 30-50kms.
  18. someone committed fraud here because you aren't allowed do ride DC at 15 yrs of age.
  19. to enter an elite team of 5 will cost 5 750. doing away with easy entry will push the cost up for sponsor / individual but not by that much, suppose its adapt or don't ride league.
  20. Exciting changes afoot for 2009 Super Leagues Series<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> The Pedal Power Association is excited to announce significant and exciting changes to its Leagues Series, starting January 2009. The substantial changes will elevate the new Super League Series (SLS) to an entirely new level. Race tactics, both for individual and new teams in all categories, will become a key factor in determining the winners of the respective leagues. The administration of the SLS will, with effect from 1 January 2009, be outsourced to Cycle Lab Events and <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Tours. Event improvements will be implemented from the first SLS event in 2009, the tough Cycle Lab Cape Cobra scheduled for 18 January 2009. The PPA and Cycle Lab teams have been working closely together over the past months, and are pleased and proud to announce the following key changes: Media Coverage TV: M-Net?s Supercycling show will cover at least four events in the Summer and four events in the Spring League seasons. This will give Western Cape riders and team sponsors significant national coverage. Radio: The Cycling Talk show hosted by Cycle Lab?s Gary Marescia on Goodhope FM, Friday afternoons from 15h40 ? 16h00, will include specific radio coverage to the SLS, again increasing the media coverage for both leading riders and their sponsors. E-based coverage: The SLS will receive increased electronic coverage via both PPA and Cycle Lab website and newsletters. Once officially launched, all SLS information, Rules and Regulations and General Classification will be displayed on both websites. Overall Positions The current ?points system? will be dropped and overall positions in each league will instead be determined by a rider?s cumulative time over the series. Riders finishing in a bunch will be given the same ?bunch time?, as is the case with Pro Multi-day Tours, thereby alleviating the frustrations for riders and timekeepers in listing exact positions across the finish line. Positions other than podium finishes also become irrelevant, thereby giving an opportunity to a large number of riders to stay in high overall contention throughout the series. In addition: ? A rider?s worst result in a season will still be dropped in calculating General Classification (GC). ?Worst result? will be the rider?s worst time deficit relative to the winner of the respective league category, despite a no show or bad result owing to fitness or mechanical failure. ? For no show?s at an event or DNF?s (did not finish), riders will be given the same time as that of the last rider over the line for their respective league, in order to calculate the General Classification. ? A time bonus of 10sec, 6sec, and 4sec will be awarded to positions 1, 2 and 3 of each league. PLEASE NOTE A FULL SET OF RACE RULES AND REGULATIONS WILL BE RELEASED TO ADDRESS ANY FURTHER CONCERNS RIDERS MAY HAVE. Team Competition Team competition returns to the SLS in 2009! A team will consist of a minimum of three and maximum of five riders per team. The top three riders? overall time will count in determining the team standings. A minimum of three teams per racing category is required for the team competition to take place. Please note there will be an additional team registration/entry fee over and above the individual entry to SLS. SLS Racing Categories and Criteria ? Elite (Elite, U/23, and U/18 holding valid CSA license and with a PPA seeding A-D) ? Sub-Vets (30-39 years holding a valid CSA 30-34 or 35-39 license and with a PPA seeding A-F) ? So? Having registered as a participant in the SLS you will no longer need to stand in a queue at any of the funrides to enter! No more easy entries, no carrying cash! Your license is all that is required to do your sign-on in the dedicated SLS hospitality area, from where you will proceed directly to the start line. Please note: No refunds will be given should riders not turn up on the day for an event in the SLS series. Registration Fees for Summer Series 1. Elite, Sub Vets, Vets, Masters, Women 1.1.
