imho - they were an accident waiting to happen. i was overtaken by the acsis car on the way to Knysna in July. it happened just after Riversdale, at the turnoff to Struisbaai, they overtook four cars in the face of oncoming traffic. the road is a quite wide here because of the roadmarkings which made overtaking a bit safer but still a bit dodgy if one of the four car being overtaken decided to take the turn to Struisbaai without indicating. never the less i hope everyone is ok and that they learn from this bad experience.

The last time it was up north Gaut North took over the hosting from S Gaut at the last minute. it looks like Central Gaut don't want to or can't host the champs. remember racing takes place during normal waking hours not at 6 in the morning. March is just too hot all around the country and too windy at the coast during the day.

why produce a calender for the new year if dates are going to changed at the whim of an administrator? why make a decision at csa congress if it can be changed? no wonder cycle racing in some provinces is such an abortion. it was decided to hold the nationals in June so leave it there. why such a big fuss about March???? the world fun ride champs are then, then its provincial track champs and then Nat track champs. Have a separate road and track season. get the provinces working to the same calender.

Sky News decribed it as "the biggest cycling tour in Africa" in one of the weekend newcasts. i must say watching last years tour i was amazed at the amount of spectators along parts of the route, the intensity of the race (thats what comes across on tv), the heat, the very rustic settings at the finish, the two extremes of equipment used - some oboslete and some top end of the range.

get measured up first, so you know what bike size fits you. shop around for prices. when you know what you want , flash cash and start negotiating for discounts. use the bigger bike shops like W E , they have a bigger range and the stock. avoid places like Sportsmens Warehouse

i watch Survivor or Amazing Race. When Mnet reviewed the Argus they always had a very unfunny clown interviewing riders/spectators (Darren Scott comes to mind) and the 94.7 they had some other joker (cant remember the name) and now for the last few years we've had Arnie and his bizarre humour. Reality shows win hands down. Pedal Talk and the SABC coverage of the Argus is way better.

the average speed for the TT's in the world masters in Austria recently in the over 70's category is still 40+ km.

never subscribed or read Bicycling used to squiz thru the usa version in the cna before they launched sa one, worked out that they rehashed articles over a period. european mags the best value for info.

theres a similar facility in CT between Mitchells Plain and Nyanga - brilliant cycling and athletics track. not used for years and they (city of ct or whovever owns the place ) wont put it back into a state of repair so it can be used. what is sad is that its right in the middle of a huge PDI area and is an ideal facility to train the youngsters in athletics/cycling. sad sad sad.
