  1. Hi. I know there is a specialized shop in the north of the island. That said i know a lot of people there just ask someone to bring it back from SA as there is always someone traveling between there and SA. Enjoy the Island
  2. Been riding it every weekend for about 4 or 5 years. Our group of 5 has had 3 really close encounters and one actual attack. The things we avoid are riding it alone, riding in the week and riding really early say before 6:30…… the spruit is also very long so over 35km one way you bound to have some dodgy areas. as for the trails, they are awesome, delta jump line is in really good condition, alberts farm has just been fenced in so a lot safer and Jozi trails continues to add trails and does an amazing job of trying to keep it safe. Go and enjoy just be alert.
  3. I remember seeing a couple at Cycle lab in Fourways in the clearance section. Maybe call them. I have a pair of VR90's and love them...but they are for narrow feet, many people sell them because their feet are too wide.
  4. I managed to see one built at Sprocket and Jack....looked absolutely amazing Congrats on your bike, tell us how it rides !!!!!
  5. Hi Following on from this. A rider in our group had an attempted bike jacking / robbery just below Emerentia dam on the little bridge below the scouts hall. 3 guys, 1 with a gun waiting on the other side of the bridge. Luckily he managed to power his way through and rode away. the event happened at 6:15 am on a Friday (2021-08-27). It has been reported to Jozi trails and a host of other security companies so no need to alert the authorities. Please be careful. Marc
  6. I would be wary of what you are asking for as there is a lot of bias, the "guests" could easily be a couple or a family in your scenario but here you are getting the answers of a pretty engaged cyclist. My example would be i answered medium but if i was traveling with my family i would need 1M and 3S. just my 2c.
  7. Hi My 2c is if you are going to change also consider running XT with a Sunrace cassette, 1x11 or 1x12, if your bike can handle it you can get the 11 - 50 to run well in both set ups, its not as good as full XT but much cheaper. Also your 2x crank can convert to 1x so you don't need the whole group set. Marc
  8. Hey There have been a couple issues on the route from the trail head down to Riverclub at the long concrete bridge. Not too many issues going up from the trail head to Alberts Farm but I would suggest you ride in groups of 3 or more and weekends are much better. We normally ride it twice a weekend and I'm sad to say it just isn't as safe as it was before lock down. The CAP patrols help but there are some sections where they can't get to. All that said the trails have been awesome and really well maintained so enjoy them. Marc
  9. Hi I run a Stage with an MRP fork set to 120 mm travel. I also run a longer rear shock which i think gives me an extra 10mm in the rear. Its called the mini max set up. Love it I also ride mostly the Spruit and its more bike than i will ever need. Marc
  10. I think two things to add: 1) have you calibrated your trainer? you said it was new, they always need to be calibrated. you can run your stages power meter on your IDT to check if they are similar. 2) because of drive train efficiency losses i find the IDT always has a lower ftp than a pedal power meter. the other simple check is, when on zwift how does 265w feel? check it against your heart rate. At ftp your heart rate should be pretty high. Another test is to hold 120% of FTP, if you can do this for longer than 5 minutes easily then you should probably retest.
  11. I know when i upgraded the first thing i was asked was what chainring do i have and was told that it wouldn't work with the shimano chain and i should go with the KNC or change the Chainring. i did some research post that and the advice was right, the shimano 12s chain has a slightly different design and shape.
  12. Told my wife I don’t need a new bike this year.....I guess as long as it says Pyga she won’t know ????
  13. the price difference is so large that you can replace whatever goes quickly. From evobike XTR upgrade kit R12K, XX1 upgrade kit R20K. a new XTR 10 - 51 Cassette is R5700.
  14. Upgraded to Shimano XT 12 from XT 11 but used the Sunrace cassette (11 - 50) on a standard Shimano free body. Works really well. When Hope has a microspline free body i'll upgrade to the Shimano cassette. My dad upgraded from GX to XTR on the GX cassette, also works very well. Don't know any reasons why you would want to avoid it.
  15. Look I wasn’t expecting Michelin. Most of the other single day events I have done have had some borewors, pre cooked in a container. I would have been very happy with that.
  16. Day 1 was an absolute mission but even though it was hard it was fun, my mud skills are now well refined. My shimano sintered metal brakes did well in these conditions and are almost as good as before the race but my partners brand new rear pads (not sure about the brand) went from 100% to 0 in one ride. Most of the mechanics at that point had run out of pads so if you have a spare set take them. Forecast looks like some rain again for both of the next two events, try take some bin bags and gum boots if you have them. Thank goodness our tents didn't leak. As for the food, and I told the organisers this, the WP were frankly pathetic. I try not each carbs and the only things there were a table of sweets, some big bowls of chips, lots of different breads / cakes, some cut up fruit and some potatoes and salt. I tried some of it out of desperation but in the end resorted to my own food. So apart from the food the event was amazing and very well organised. This was my first stage race and I really enjoyed it. for all those doing it enjoy!
  17. Hi In December we bought my dad a giant with GX 12s on it. From day 1 it wasn't great and didn't really measure up to the hype. Six months later my dad was tired of the poor shifting and upgraded to XTR 12s on the GX cassette.....crisp as can be. With regards to X01 and XX1, they just so over priced. You can get 2 XT upgrade kits for one X01 or 1 XTR and save R4000 compared to one X01. So while the durability of XT is unproven I doubt X01 will last double the time of an XT set up. By now you have guessed I am a "Shimano phile" but I do have an issue with the way they have done the licensing of the micro spline technology, I think this is a major stumbling block for someone like me who uses Hope hubs. As for the compatibility question I was told the same thing about the pitch of the chain which made no sense to me. However the advice I got was to simply run a KMC 12s chain as I wanted to run the 12s 11 - 50 Sunrace cassette with XT and my existing crank and 11s chainring. I think this is the set up I am going to settle on but if anyone has tried it and it hasn't work please share
  18. Hi This is my Pyga Stage built by the guys at Sprocket and Jack. I have been upgrading my bike all year to finally end with this which is just amazing. All the advice from Grant has been spot on. Highlights: Pyga Stage (M) MRP Stage fork (130mm) Fox factory rear shock XT group set except the Sunrace 11 - 50 cassette WTB 29i rims on Hope hubs ODI VANS special edition grips (to relive my skateboarding years) Its taken me a year to get here but it was well worth it!! Thanks Grant and the team at Sprocket and Jack for answering all my questions. Marc
  19. Great event. Thanks to the organizers, see you next year
