  1. Do you mean the top cover that has an angled down section at the back? On my spark (2018) the spacers, stem and top cap all go together, maybe even the headset bearing cover. If i wanted to put another type of stem and handle bar i would need to change the other items as well. When I upgraded I stuck with the Syncros stuff and it worked just fine. Hope this helps.
  2. What worked for me was adding arch support after the original one had compressed and not tightening my shoes too much, I found I did this when I had thick socks on. not sure why they helped but they have for me.
  3. Hi I see you in the Jhb Pta area, if you looking at second hand go look at bike market and at least then you have some peace of mind on your purchase. The fact that you can fix carbon is a big plus for me. I have seen failure on all material types with the worst being on an Aluminum frame...... Good luck Marc
  4. I've upgraded from 11s and run 12s for over 3 or 4 years and i haven't had any of the issues you have spoken about. I do run XT with a sunrace (the one that weighs a lot) cassette. if anything the only complaint i have is that in one gear i sometimes have to help it along when shifting up, but the drive train has seen a very muddy W2W and has lasted another 7.5K km post that so i really can't complain. if you do go 11s then get the set up that is designed for a 50T in the rear, the older stuff can do it but you have to run the b setting so far from the cassette that shifting in the smaller gears as the chain wears is a problem.
  5. any reason you not considering going to 1x12? deore 1x12 with a sunrace cassette is not that much more than 1x11 with the 11 - 50 range.
  6. My rule of thumb which has worked out in various hobbies is start with the new price and halve it, this is mostly on items that are 3 years + old. Then adjust for age, quality, brand etc etc.
  7. This entire thing just shows me how the world has gone a bit mad. The work Jozi Trails has done has: 1) Made all the trails better for cyclists, runners and walkers 2) Have made the trails safer and they have helped directly when people have had an incident (they helped us when one person in our group was bike jacked) 3) By doing this the small number of restaurants and coffee shops have grown and created jobs thus helping the economy. I'm sure there are more positives to mention and there are also negatives i.e. the trails are busier and the sand is very identifiable; but on the whole its a net positive. So to the title of this thread, besides filling out the survey (https://forms.gle/uQZeaRL9XB6wCnxC9) what else can we do? Who has some ideas? We could all donate money to get it fixed that way ensuring the Jozi Trails remains operational, @jozitrails how much would you need?
  8. hey Is the hub tight? i.e. the wheel can't move from left to right? i'm thinking maybe you braked in a corner and the wheel pushed to one side and that placed some sideways load on the disk which then sheered off.
  9. Agree, ridden there many times and its stunning. Proper mountain biking.
  10. The section from 1 - 2 is dodge during the week. There have been too many attacks (including a person in our small riding group) and its just not busy enough during the week, Rather stick to the quieter roads.
  11. Lorena Wiebes - Speciality - Winning ......classic
  12. At first i thought this was an easy one but after reading it a couple times i can see how both the seller and the buyer would be right. I guess it could have read Fork with remote lockout but no lever. this assumes that the fork does in fact have the remote lockout top cap.
  13. Rode there today....a welcome change from the usual Spruit ride. Route is marked well so don't worry about the GPX. Enjoy
  14. https://www.like2bike.co.za/asidlale I haven't ridden there but planning to. Friends that have gone say its now marked which is good. From Lonehill also consider going into the Beaulieu area and into Riversands.
  15. Maybe its time for an FTP test......
  16. i try to fuel everything even the zone 2 stuff mainly to train my stomach. Over the last 2 years i have built myself up from one farbar (25g) on a 50km ride to about 70g of carbs per hour. When you using specific product i found proper fuelling got expensive really fast so my latest experiment is 60g of sugar and 15 - 20g of game in a 800ml bottle. Works surprisingly well and its actually easy on the stomach......
  17. For winter i have found Fox and Shift MX tops make great mtb tops to go over your riding top. obviously you can't get to the pockets but i just stop And they are very very good value for money.
  18. Can you please give me a couple names of LBS's that do this as we have ended up buying new 12s xt cassettes when only the bottom 2 are worn.
  19. I've had this a number of times with my 4iiii power meter. I just leave it open for a couple of days to dry out and it normally sorts it out. Hope you come right.
  20. If i was getting a new bike i would only get 120mm travel as i think for general riding its the best. i would buy second hand, go check out bike market, they have a shop near Sandton so you can see what they have. for 40 - 60 K you can get an amazing second hand bike pretty much all the shiny bits you can imagine. make sure you get the right size bike as its so important, try a couple different bikes and if you can one size up. As for buying in the US i would avoid a brand that you can't get spares for here in SA, bikes need maintenance and you don't want to get stuck needing a pivot part that you have to import.
  21. Ok that explains it. thanks
  22. to be honest i have never heard of autosag, please share.
  23. I always loved the idea of bearings instead of bushings.....if i was getting a Scalpel i would keep the Lefty especially if its the new one.
  24. Oh boy, public goals are never good goal 1) try go from 9 hours a week to 10 maybe 11 hours goal 2) ride 6 days a week with Monday as a rest day goal 3) get to 300w ftp by year end goal 4) end top 200 at 94.7 mtb bonus goal) figure out how to coach myself.
