  1. Ok cool, thanks for the info! This seems like quite a good option and that's very light for the price. I'll have to go do my research on the whole 3k/12k weave thing. Now I just have to decide if I'm going to save some money and buy from these guys or pay R4500 from cyclebuzz and get a warranty...
  2. This is Bob. Paste him on all your dartboards.
  3. I've found hot spot cycles to be quite good with servicing things at relatively good prices. Definitely better than fritz at servicing wheels - Fritz sent me away with an 'unfixable wheel' and hot spot sorted it out for R80. If you're going to be spending a fair amount of money on parts, go to solomons in pta north. Its a bit of a drive, but worth it.

    road or mtb?
  5. Got the e-mail. Looks good, I can see you spent quite a bit of time on it...
  6. Do orbeas have a lifetime warrantee? But I guess you have to be the original owner right? (sorry for the mini- hijack)
  7. I have exactly the same problems (both of them) In my case the nocking is as a result of stuffed up pedals and the slipping is a result of a worn middle chainring (it looks fine, but obviously isn't)
  8. Ja, its all your fault! Na, the brakes seem fine, just sprayed some Q20 in the pistons and it hasn't done it again. The fork was just due for a service, works perfectly now. The frame however is fed but I cant afford a new one for now, so hopefully it wont break apart when I'm doing 60km/h. mtb_Josh2010-02-21 07:47:57
  9. DONT go for a single speed as your first bike! Now the I know you're a student, I would rather recommend a hardtail as you are still young. If you start out with a hardtail you will develop a better set of skills than if you start out with a full susser. My bike = hardtail, sram x0, rock shox reba. I'm happy with all of it. I think when it comes to fox vs rox its quite a close battle. Rock shox are cheaper and easier to service though... Rock shox is made by sram, as is most of the rest of my bike - sram, rox, truvativ and juicy... haven't had much of a problem with any of it.
  10. If I was you, that merida would be high up on my list. I myself ride a hardtail with sram x0, but thats mostly because I cant afford a good, light full susser. I like my sram, works very well, but the XT on the merida is also very good.
  11. How about drinking tonight AND 60km tomorrow?
  12. anyone riding tomorrow? Thinking of joining them tomorrow...
  13. Mmmm. Really nice frame. I think its slightly out of my price range at the moment though... I'll have to try make a plan.
  14. I want a frame like that. Got a spare 1 lying around? If you phone Graham at Commencal / Absolut Biking they can help you. Some frames are on special I believe... I think I might just do that... This is what I'm riding at the moment' date=' but the frame has a crack so I'm a bit worried... 15. Are you talking about a fork? If so, I just did my own, replaced all the o-rings, dust wipers and oil - cost me about R350. Talk to Johan Bornman - I got everything from him - excellent service
  16. I want a frame like that. Got a spare 1 lying around?
  17. I live in pretoria, so it would be a lot easier to find a welder close by instead of driving to joburg. An engineer friend of mine is trying to organise for me with a friend of his, so I'll see what happens.
  18. Na, second hand bike... I've given the frame quite a beating though...I ride my bikes hard. And I think the "not serious" part is just denial Ja, I'm trying to find a proper welder, definitely wont settle for second best, and I want to watch when its done. Otherwise I guess I'll have to not go out for a couple of months and use the money for a new frame
  19. Seems like it hey.. at least I sorted out that annoying clicking sound and the brakes SEEM to be ok and the frame handled blue moonlight today without cracking any further
  20. Wow, It never rains, but it pours... So on top of everything else that has gone wrong with my bike in the last 2 weeks, I have now noticed a crack... Its an aluminium orbea mountain bike and the crack is where the chainstay meets the bb, just before the weld. It doesn't seem serious yet as the crack has not separated yet and is not all the way around the chainstay (just on the inside so far) My question is: can this be repaired? and does anyone know of a capable welder in pretoria?
  21. I dont know much about brake systems, but if the piston in the lever were sticking, then surely that would cause the pistons in the calipers to come out and stay out?
  22. I talked to a friend tonight and he reckons my problem could be the piston in the lever getting stuck...any chance of that?
