  1. Thanks for the supplies JB! Just finished servicing my fork, will put it on the bike tomorrow and test it out. Your help is much appreciated
  2. I mean the pistons didn't come out very far when I pulled the brake lever. You said earlier that I should pull the lever until the pistons were close to coming out of their sockets and I don't think that they were anywhere close to popping out.
  3. I took the pads out and pulled the brake lever in all the way - didn't result in too much movement from the pistons though. I tried to get a bit of Q20 in and then tried to push the pistons back, but like I said, not a lot of movement at all.
  4. That would be awesome as I also live in pta east! I've already pm'ed Johan and he says that he is hopefully getting the seals in tomorrow. If he lets me know that he has got them I would really appreciate if you would bring back a set for me? Thanks a million!
  5. I tried JB's solution yesterday. I battled to push the pistons back after i sprayed them, but I think they have actually been out too far since I got them (had more drag on the back than the front). Anyway, got them back far enough to get the old pads back(these pads are very new...dont really want to replace them...) in. There is still a bit too much drag, but I had that before the incident anyway. But to my great joy, I realised my fork isn't holding pressure in the negative chamber so I haven't had a chance to test drive the brakes very much...
  6. Ok, thanks, I'll go past the motorbike shop tomorrow. I just phoned 2 lbss, one said there was no chance of getting seals from them and the other said they could order them for about R500 (o-rings and dust wiper seals) is that right!? sounds a bit expensive to me...
  7. I'm busy servicing my reba fork, does anyone know of a place in pta where I can get suspension oil? I also need to find o-rings/seals, is an lbs best for those?
  8. Well the antidote for ethylene glycol poisoning is alcohol... (Just incase)
  9. Thanks JB! will try that tomorrow! WW, sorry bout the technical difficulties! Next time we can hopefully do a proper ride without having to dismantle by bike next to the road
  10. Ja, I think i'll rather take it to the lbs, dont have a bleed kit anyway..
  11. Thanks Little-Ben, so do I need to replace the fluid or seals or anything? or do you think they will be fine?
  12. Is that possible? If so I think you might have hit the nail on the head. My bike was on the rack for about 30min before the ride and it was very hot today.
  13. The spring plate is still there and I hate v brakes. I guess it could be the o-rings... Why would they swell up randomly?
  14. Hmm..that sounds like a decent solution. But if that is the case, then why couldn't I push the pistons back much?
  15. Today during my ride, my rear caliper decided that it wasn't going to retract anymore and the pads locked onto the rotor... So we stopped and tried to force the pistons back with a little success but then it happened again a few km later. Eventually decided to stop pulling the back brake for the rest of the ride, but it STILL locked up... any ideas? And no, the lever was not pulled while the wheel was off the bike. The brakes are avid juicy carbons. Please help me!
  16. oh, and I live in pta east so it would be quite convenient for me...
  17. I wouldn't mind riding with you hey. My problem is I'm also studying and most days I get home at 4ish... edit : tomorrow I'll be able to ride at 2?mtb_Josh2010-02-01 12:02:48
  18. ? if you're watching the bulls, the tools are provided. ? *awaits bigh's arrival?*
  19. I have no clue... Somewhere out PTA east I think. The only problem is that I've ridden a grand total of 3 times in the past 3 weeks, and these guys are going to ride fast, I think they're training for the epic... Oh well. I'll just try hang on the back.
  20. Sounds like a nice route. I think I'll join you guys next saturday (I'm apparently riding a 90k ride with a friend this sat)
  21. Sounds good. What general route does the ride follow?
  22. I like my camelbak because I really hate taking my hand off the bars to get the bottle and then trying get it back into the cage when I'm done. I dont have a problem with flow, I hardly have to suck on the mouthpiece at all. I do understand the weight difference and comfort argument though, so I think I'm going to try my next race with bottles only...see what happens. Funny story though -In december I went away on holiday and saw a poster for a race the following day. Being really tired from the drive, I didn't read it properly, I thought it was an mtb race but it was actually road. So I rocked up the following morning with my MTB with knobblies, my helmet with a peak and best of all - my camelbak (left the bottles at home) So I rode the race with the camelbak anyway and ended up finishing 6th. The looks on the roadies faces when I passed them was priceless
  23. Wow. That is absolutely awesome! Is it just me, or do you have 2 powerlinks in your chain? If you're interested in the selling the seatpost drop me a pm mtb_Josh2010-01-15 08:01:07
  24. I wouldn't buy a mongoose if I was you. Merida is a very good option, I bought a cheap Merida when I started riding and it served me well. Another option is to look for a 2nd hand bike. I bought my current bike 2nd hand for R10 000 while a new bike with similar components sells for over R20k. Just be sure to take a well seasoned cyclist with to check the bike out before you buy it if you decide to go this route.
