  1. How does adding rubber INCREASE the inside diameter of the rim? Surely it would decrease? And why is this necessary? As to your 3rd point - the rubber strip doesn't sit between the rim and the tyre in all the conversions (using stans strips) that I've seen...?
  2. um? why?
  3. Thanks guys. Will try when I have some time (just need to put in a few hundred hours of studying this week )
  4. Thanks R3SL, I think thats what I'm going to try. The tyres have been used with stans before so they should be alright. I plan to go use the pump at the garage up the road, I think that should work to get the tyre seated? When I took the tubeless setup off the back wheel I realised that if I had to stick a tube in on the trail I would've had one hell of a time! The old tubeless ready tyres refused to come off! But the non-ust tyres are much easier!
  5. Yip - 1st place I tried, they dont even have presta in 20inch, nevermind with a removable core. They also tried to find an old tube with a presta valve but couldn't find anything
  6. Well the true story is that I bought the wheelset a year ago with tyres, seller said it was set up as tubeless so I believed him. I took the rear wheel off for another reason and it was tubeless so I assumed front was also. Tried to change tyres the other day and surprise surprise! Tube in the front! Good thing I run a high pressure otherwise I could've had a snakebite on my 'tubeless' setup. I dont have any old tubes with presta valves, I tried 2 lbs and neither had any old tubes with presta and I'm not really keen to cut up a working tube. The stans valve stem costs almost the same as a tube anyway, so I may as well use it if it will work?
  7. Anyone?
  8. I need to replace the tubeless setup on my front wheel and I really dont want to pay the ridiculous price of a stans strip. I have the old american classic wheels with racing ralph evos (non ust). My question is; would a loose valve like this http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=38827 and some insulation tape work? Before anyone suggests a 20inch tube - I've been looking (in pta) and cant find 20inch tubes with presta valves anywhere (dont want to drill my rims for schraeder)
  9. Borrow the red metals from the bike in the background - will look niiice
  10. Anything made by sram - i.e rock shox, truvativ, avid
  11. Its quite light for a pretty durable bike. WW doesn't have any very flimsy parts on there. WW - how did you balance the wheels on the scale like that
  12. In the end I bought the Giant xtc zero. Its old stock but at least I get a warranty with it and it didnt cost an arm and a leg. Now I just have to find a seatpost and then I'll post some pics.
  13. So I just went and checked both frames out and it hasn't made my decision making any easier! The Giant frame is actually brand new, just a 2006 model. The BeOne is also brand new and a 2009 model but is quite a bit heavier than expected (kitchen scale says 1700g), although it seems to be good quality and wins in the looks department. Sigh
  14. Thanks, will go past just now. Did you end up riding this morning?
  15. No, unfortunately not. Its not really a top end frame anyway... But I think I should look into insurance when I get the new frame.
  16. wow... thats some crazy language there... I think your problem could be the tension in the cables? Loosen it entirely on the RD and start from scratch.
  17. Thanks, Ja, still considering an On One. Although I have kind of narrowed down my choice to 3 frames: 1. A carbon blank from china (just got a quote from a company - not too bad!) 2. A new BeOne Karma 2009 from Jooste https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=83094&PN=1&EN=TS 3. A 2nd hand giant xtc zero (alu) from an lbs for a bit less - then I can buy a nice seatpost etc. The carbon blank and BeOne seem to be of a similar weight and similar price. So: carbon with warranty in china or alu with no warranty?
  18. I quite like it, but I see they dont have my size and obviously wont be getting new stock as its 2008...So much for that idea!
  19. ? Hey Josh ? I e-mailed the guy and gave hime a list of what I wanted and he replied with $415 shipping included. Just before they shipped the stuff, I asked him if there's still time to add two bottle cages ($15 each)?he gave both for $20. So there's obviously?discount on ordering additional stuff. ? I ordered a?18" <FONT size=2 face=Arial>FLY-FR-001 which I also changed at the last minute to a 3k weave, simply because to me it looks a little better,?didn't charge me extra. Think the 3k might be a little heavier than 12k. <FONT size=2 face=Arial>? <FONT size=2 face=Arial>The parcel has been at see for 2 weeks now, so I hope it will be here within the next 2-3 weeks. Did you ever get the frame???? I might want to order one, but I want to make sure you got yours 1st!
  20. wow, not bad. I see CRC dont have the karma 1.0 anymore. Do you know if the 2.0 is the same or not? http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=35238
  21. Do you have any idea of the weight of the frame?
