  1. The impact isn't all bad. I've read in several places that there is a high incidence of osteoporosis amongst cyclist due to a lack on impact (which is necessary for stimulation of bone growth)
  2. I do it on my mtb, if the road is smooth its fairly safe. Changing gears (on gripshifters) with the wrong hand - now thats a bad idea!
  3. I tried to ride up the mountain once from the far side (not the concrete steps) and I almost died! More carrying than cycling! coming down the concrete steps/path was a bit hair-raising as well!
  4. Eish, I live by the spruit and its NOT safe....
  5. Thanks a million will definitely go check it out Cause I'm basically on holiday got 1 more week of class, but its not too hectic. And I cant seem to find a holiday job that would be worth my while, so mountain bike it is!!!
  6. sorry for the mini-hijack, but where is breedts? I've heard about it but never been there. I'm going to be doing a LOT of riding in the next 2 months, so I need to find some new places
  7. I've got a 32 on my race wheels and a 34 on my training wheels - I actually cant tell the difference when I'm riding... (and my smallest chainring is a 32)
  8. He should've hit her harder!
  9. must be the canadian thing. Proper sticks use other materials like kevlar and aramid in the composite mix as well. I have yet to find one that I cant break tho
  10. I'm sure it will be ok. I'm currently using a 3K carbon flatbar that I got second hand. I'm rather hard on my bikes and haven't had a single problem with it. I'll probably be selling it soon to replace it with KCNC though
  11. wow, thats a harsh one! Where were you fined and how much was the fine for?
  12. Cheap cateye velo 8 - no problems in almost 2 years (it did reset the odometer once when I dropped it though)
  13. I think this is a different sale
  14. I was keen on getting some bibs at that price but I phoned them last week and they only had small sizes
  15. If I'm gona buy a Pinarello, I want the WHOLE name on it...not only half
  16. Well your max HR clearly isn't 189 if you hit 192 When I cant get my HR up it usually means I'm about to get sick... Maybe it means your body hasn't recovered enough yet.
  17. I love it when the worker guys on their road bikes try race me when I'm out on my mtb I usually drop them until I run out of gears (if its downhill) and then they fly past me grinning from ear to ear
  18. I use non-ust ralphs set up as ust on my race wheels. Awesome tyres! I used to use them for training and only had one puncture (it was a bigass nail that would've gone thru a set of downhill tyres as well!) I stopped training on them cause they were wearing down way too quickly on the bit of tar that I do at the beginning and end of my rides.
  19. I had an 8.30 class so I went for a 35km sprint at 6 am guys doing club rides were looking at me wierd when I was on my way back into pretoria east as they were just leaving
  20. Really nice bike, I'm rather jealous! Out of interest - why didn't you go for the white american classics?
  21. looks like a manitou R7 to me. Any idea of the weight of the bike?
  22. why do they expire?
  23. Yip, I was serious I did it while watching a movie on my laptop, took about 40 min to do 3 tubes (only because I was struggling to get the sealant thru the valve stem - then I thought of the adapter idea ) I use presta because my training rims are drilled for presta and I dont want to drill them out as they are going to get a tubeless conversion sometime in the future. Holding the core does work, if you have enough hands!
  24. I've put slime into non removable presta valves before - its quite easy, but takes a bit of time: 1. unscrew the valve all the way 2. use a pliers to unscrew the little stopper thingy on top further, thereby removing it from the valve core entirely (takes a bit of force) 3. push the valve core down into the tube 4. use one of those presta-to-schrader converter thingys that you use to pump at a garage (+-R15) and screw it onto the valve stem - this just makes getting slime though the narrow valve stem easier. 5. I then use a big syringe and inject the slime 6. now the hard part -feel the lowest point of the tube and find the valve core 7. work the valve core back up to the valve stem and screw the top bit back on with the pliers. I've done it a few times with no problems - however it is quite difficult to get a kenda valve core back into the stem...
  25. and that, boys and girls, is why we should service our forks! I'll cry if that happens to mine!
