  1. What about something local? https://www.pygaindustries.com/product/stage-max/#frame https://www.pygaindustries.com/product/hyrax/#frameset Pyga will build you a bike with the EXACT spec you want - every owner I know absolutely LOVES their bike.
  2. Careful, you will be crucified on this forum if you suggest that squatters aren't allowed to squat on on Spruit or are doing so illegally or are in this country illegally. When previous efforts were made to clear out the Spruit squatters (using JMPD and with the blessing of the COJ-appointed Spruit advisors), commentators here quickly climbed in to criticize all and sundry, while defending the rights of the squatters to remain on the Spruit. Some here will remember the uproar when the JMPD cleared out the squatters north of Pick n Pay and burned all the stuff on site...
  3. RIP to the fallen cyclists and my heartfelt condolences to family, friends and customers.
  4. this looks AWESOME. Soooo much good riding around pretoria!
  5. as per above link: Cytech home mechanic wheel building This three day course designed to give the aspiring home mechanic a good level of knowledge and practical experience in the art of wheel building. The course fee is R5,940.
  6. GX 12-speed also has this issue (mine has done 5,000kms+)
  7. I am on approx 5,500kms with GX Eagle, using only GX Chains that were replaced regularly. Still using original oval 34t SRAM chainring. Chain cleaned and lubed regularly but not religiously. Shifting started playing up slightly recently but I'm going to see if a tune up at the LBS helps. Also had a derailleur replaced by SRAM under warranty after it blew up at approx. 2,500kms (well documented fault with the jockey wheels). Want to upgrade to XO1 or XX1, or even XT/XTR, on my next bike.
  8. THIS is why other road users HATE CYCLISTS...and it isn't an isolated incident either [shock! horror!]. See similar behaviour in Pta East regularly - but now with IMPROVED SAFETY, as the bunch has a bakkie with hazards following it at 25kmph, making safe passing even harder.
  9. Proudly Made in SA (the Strand, IIRC)?
  10. The SA, NZ, Oz and UK media don't agree with you on that point...sawry https://www.sport24.co.za/Rugby/BritishLions/haka-creator-defends-throat-cut-gesture-20170608 http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/5818998/Australian-Throat-slitting-haka-has-no-place https://www.telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union/2017/06/07/weeks-throat-slitting-gestures-haka-should-have-dropped-ill/ https://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=10356572
  11. Exactly. NZ can make throat-slitting gestures but, if another team dares place a foot over halfway, that's a $2,500 (eur?) fine.
  12. Could not agree more with this. I am not really too fussed by a large corporate running the event for profit but the (cynical) attempt to market it as something else is what bugs me.
  13. Last year, day 2 of the midweek race was a total disaster after the rain (and fire)...basically, no traction and almost unrideable. Needed to replace my entire drivetrain afterwards.
  14. Pretoria stabbing, Stellenbosch (attempted jacking), PE stabbing...maybe, as the thread goes, it IS "time to get the hell out of here..."
  15. Thumbs-up for RVO - what a great experience. Definitely a bucket list event.
  16. That's awful news. My worst fear - a random attack while riding alone. I've distributed the news to the guys I know in that area.
  17. for merino, why not buy local? https://coremerino.com/
  18. My SRAM derailleur was sent away, warrantied/replaced, returned to LBS, and fitted back on my bike in 3 business days. Only cost was the courier. Turnaround time on my Fox rear sus was approx. the same. CWC needs to step up...
  19. Yes and No. Epic Evo HTA is 68,5% - that's new gen geometry XC but TRAIL a generation or two ago. The "average joe" in SA wants to ride Sani, W2W - in fact, XCM is considered a "fun ride" in SA. Again, it depends what you want to ride and what you actually ride. "Trail" in the WC and the Gauteng are completely different things. Your recommendations for trail bikes are spot-on, though...I'd happily ride them all but the question is, where in the Gauteng?
  20. If you want a very similar bike to your Camber, then the Epic Evo has almost exactly the same geometry as the last Camber model. Your views on the brain shock will probably help make up your mind. With the newer bikes (modern geo), I don't think the sizing makes such a large difference and you could easily move up to an XL on the Epic. The New Stumpy is much more of a TRAIL bike than the Camber, which is more XC orientated. Be clear about what you're gonna use the bike for. Happy hunting!
  21. No, but they do like a service now and then. Also, mine had the damper replaced fairly early (1 yr)
  22. i have heard this ^^^^^ from more than one Stage owner.
  23. Spez shoes are the business for comfort and longevity...expert (ZAR3.5k) or s-works (very $$$). ESPECIALLY if you have wide feet.
