  1. Yesterday was a HARD day on the bike...much harder than last year, in my opinion. The combination of cold, water, slime and a bit of illness after sani made it a tough day in the saddle. I rode with A batch, so the route was relatively clean. I can't imagine what it looked like after 500+ bikes had been through there. Much respect to the guys starting late and finishing.
  2. GRIPE 1: Disco says i'm not eligible for high-perf due being on medication for "lung disease". GRIPE 2: changed employer and Disco merrily continued debiting former employer. Now, after 6 months of hassling, the money still hasn't been refunded. PITA of note.
  3. That makes 2 of us for the snotnose. In addition, i seem to have caught some weird stomach bug during the Sani Mud Fest and Attempted Hypothermia Competition. Thank #### that i am not sneezing...
  4. yassis! that is a BIGGIE. Get better soon!
  5. Just entered and ready to roll for my 2nd. Just checked my seeding and it is SWAK due to the new "ageing algorithm" (well, that's my excuse). Anyway, will be a fun race like last year.
  6. Thanks v much for this notice. I've been avoiding the Spruit due to feeling unsafe for the first time in years. Just too many dodgy people about and not enough bikers north of Fratelli's.
  7. Correct. Let's just say that the handling is, well, "interesting"... Unfortunately, no time to get bike serviced or tyres changed and i am sure as #### not going to do it the night before we leave.
  8. I'm running spez fast traks F & R for Sani - if it rains, i am so screwed. Oh well...adds to the fun.
  9. Seriously tempted...looks lekker
  10. fox socks and parktool gloves on sale at onedayonly TODAY 28/4
  11. Is this mainly gravel grinding or is there some singletrack?
  12. Good racing today but some hairy moments with big trucks and traffic...nice vitality snack & drink afterwards. Note sure whether it's money well spent.
  13. Why not adopt a permanent number / board like SASeeding does for MTB? It really cannot be that hard - the SAS Board is 50 bucks and contains a chip.
  14. I am new to road racing but i keep on getting a distinct feeling that I'm being ripped off. Once that cost-benefit calculation starts running in my head, the FUN slowly drains away. Pity.
  15. JCZA, Please explain this comment some more. Sorry, I don't understand all the roadie nuances yet.
  16. But the GRID's are heavy as hell...they're the toughest / heaviest tyre that Spez makes...hence the "heaviness"
  17. Thanks for the feedback. Fast Traks are sketchy as #### on the front...ground control is a great all round tyre, in my opinion.
  18. ...or The Spruit or Sani2C or the average bike park (Modders, PwC) or the Cradle MTB loop or gravel grinding (e.g. Breedt's)...that covers 90% of most peeps' technical tyre requirements. I'm asking because i find the fascination with huge knobblies a bit overkill...unless it's "met knoppies vir extra genot..."

  20. this is not a troll but an honest question: does a more "aggressive" front tyre REALLY help in Gauteng conditions, viz. sand, pebbles, stones over hardpack? Is there anything for the extra tread to actually grip on or dig into?
  21. 54km. Taking a light this time - sh@t myself in the long tunnels last year.
  22. #metoo #alltheway
  23. ...alternate shouting STRAVA! and TRACK! every thirty seconds...
  24. I thought that i was the only one of the view that a bright strobe at the front was a bad idea. Thanks for this post. The idea is to be VISIBLE, not blind / piss-off oncoming traffic.
