  1. SeeBea thanx that is how it was to be interpreted.Responsibility starts with the individual.I believe in meritocracy being that to have rights and to enforce those rights you also have to have the other side of the coin being the obligations. One cannot just demand all the rights and none of the obligations. The obligations are such as wearing helmet, obeying traffic laws etc.I realy hope that myself and my fellow cyclists will embrace the obligations and then reap the rewards.Safe cycling.
  2. I was in Stellenbosch twice last week on bussiness (ok went to stillwater). The traffic is always bad as the road infrastructure is not able to cope with the number of vehicles let alone the number of bad drivers. My problem is with the group of cyclists that came from ct side towards stellenbosch. At he first robot just past the traffic camera 2-3 cyclists decided to ride over the red robot where everyone was standing.I saw them coming from behind and moved over more to the right hand side of the road so that there is more space to pass on the left away from the curb. They just slowed down and went over the robot.I felt bad as a fellow cyclist and could see the oke in the car in front of me gestulating. After waiting for the robot I passed the same cyclists again now riding 2-3 abreast and then came to the robot where you turn right to the strand.I was patiently waiting for the robot which was red again when the same cyclists came from behind. The one guy had his helmet in his hands busy adjusting it while cycling without hands. As he came near the robot he had a look and decided with his friend to go over the red robot and turn right into the road going to strand. This was done with the helmet in one hand and the other hand on the handlebar.Near crash as motorists had to evade "man with deathwish".From the looks of his bike and legs I am sure he was no weekend rider.I still feel for the oke /gal is involved in the accident , but we as cyclist have to take responsibility.
  3. The only reason why I now think the earth is flat is bacause I travelled to Kimberley the other day. After going up contermans kloof yesterday I am no longer that sure.
  4. Are all those goodies only for the full X or for the lite as well?
  5. thanx Mud Dee.It does bug me though that the instructions said it is an alchohol based product and it should be air dried so I thought that it should have evaporated, but then again I also thought the earth was flat.
  6. Last night I decided it is time to clean the pads a bit.Took them out and took some sandpaper to roughen them up a bit. This I have done before and it seems to do the job. This time though I decided to spray them with a product called disc brake cleaner and this morning I have about zero stopping power. What the hell happened and how do I fix this apart from buying new pads.I also sprayed the rotors as the instructions said it will take away grime/oil/buildup etc?Urgent advice will be appreciated before tumbling through majik and hillcrest this afternoon.
  7. I am trying to find out exactly where it happened.Any ideas because in the st I saw this week plenty of new stuff eg broken branches, leftover of fire, foodcans etc.If I see anything suspiscious I will try to run them down with my mongoose and not use the bigger new rotors. This just p@@@@@@@@@@@S me off.
  8. There were SAPS cars last week as well looking for two okes aparantly involved with a breakin in the area.May all criminals rot in hell.
  9. Heard about it as well.the lady was taken to Durbanville Medi Klinic not sure as to what injuries.Bike was stolen blue and silver trek.Hope my fellow cyclist is ok and may the f######## who attacked her and stole the bike die a slow and unpleasant death.
  10. and mine.will just do the forrest then.
  11. i feel the same way.only rsa and england that has hosted world cups for soccer, rugby and cricket.
  12. is the nightrides still on tuesdays?
  13. yes i think it is safe.this morning cops stopped us as we exited the forrest though looking for two "people".the most unsafe part is that there are plenty of trail runners with their dogs going up the singletrack and if you come down you tend to spot them a bit late, but good manners prevail insanity.
  14. I was in Majik this morning and saw the mist coming over the hills just before 06h00.One could only see the top of the radiomast on the hill and nothing else as the mist was covering it.It is for moments like this that makes mtb was it is.I think this is the trail at hillcrest?awesome ride was there on sunday.
  15. I'm more worried about someone like dozi/kurt/steve/jurie etc being fronted by metallica/acdc etc.
  16. The weight depends on whether you are listening to heavy metal or light classical.
  17. I'm off to go and pre register for the Tygerberg MTB Club funride and will be listening to ride your bicycle Queen in the car on my way there.I will not impede on anyone.Lekker Friday 13th all.
  18. I'm referring to MTB when saying of being aware of what is behind you.Imagine ST and someone stops dead in front just when the ST starts to flow as he/she is busy shuffling the clicker to get to another song and he/she has to stop to do this. This happened on a race in Stellenbosch and the ST looked like the N1 in the afternoon with someone doing 80 in the right lane.By all means tell the oke to p off if there is more than enough space. For all I care you can have a symphony orchestra with you as long as it does not impede on the other riders.
  19. Apart from not being aware of what is coming from behind I also think that it takes away from the idea of MTB ie the wind through the helmet, being in touch with the environment etc.Ipods and spinning classes might make sense, but I fail to see why while on a MTB especially during races.
  20. Do hilcrest after a loop in majik forrest via the downpath at poplars.Big thumbs up to adrian and the guys of the club for bringing this to life. After cycling for 10 years in magic forrest it is great to have new paths on my doorstep.Lekker to be a member of Tygerberg MTB Club.
  21. I use a Poploc. The only problem ever encountered was when some of my GU fell onto the release button and because of the stickiness, the release did not want to work correctly. If the fork was locked you could not get the release knoppie to come out as it got stuck. It was my own fault and not the product though.I therefore suggest that you handle your sticky stuff with the hand not near the Poploc.
  22. it was not me , but i wont do it again.good for you.i also do the same with the granny gear.reteid2009-09-03 04:49:19
  23. first check that it does fit.I had a trek with v brakes and the carrier fitted perfectly. It however does not fit on either my raleigh or mongoose ,both which have discs. As to the sleeping yes,but untill then they do a lot to improve bike handling skills with sudden movements to a side.Hope you get sorted.
  24. thankx for the feedback.this is the reason why the hub is a cool and helpfull site.
  25. I entered ladysmith cheese seweweekspoort 80 km mtb event.Do I need any spesific traing to survive.I normally sort of end in the back 1/3 of the field in races like knysna 50 /stellenbosch 42.I'm getting scared of the distance.
