  1. hope he goes down in flames.no place for scammers in my books.never thought i will say it but thanks google earth streetmaps.
  2. I stopped buying the mag 2 years ago.I used to be a subscriber and did not renew my subscription.Reading Tread and Ride with the odd UK mag when the finances are good.I would rather spend more money on a good mag than less money on something crap.I do not know how to solve the problem , but that does not say that there is no problem. At least they are still doing a bike mag.
  3. had torn acl, multiple meniscus tears and some other goodies after playing soccer with the kids.Today is 8 weeks after the op with harvesting tendons from hamstring.currently doing 45 min a day on the stationery bike as well as some exercises.my advice is to get a good fisio as in my case i believe the rehab after the op is the NB part.had a knee op on the other knee 14 years ago and it took me 16 months and two follow up ops to be where i am now within 8 weeks.I am going back to the surgeon for follow up consultation this friday and will have a better idea as to when I can be on the mtb again.do the fisio exercises.
  4. i run maxiss crossmarks both front and back in the lust tubeless setup.doing majik, contermans, hillcrest routes and touch wood have never had problems with them in 4 years.i use them because they are good value for money and they have never let me down.find a tyre that works for you and then do not scratch where it does not itch.
  5. i do not fly uphills on the mtb.i very often walk.i have found that running helps me to walk faster uphill than some people cycle uphill.at knysna this year i was running some of the uphills with my mtb and still passing some people who was in granny gear.to me crosstraining is a good thing.
  6. try and do trail runs as there is a big difference between pounding tar and running offroad.i have done a few tri's and two ironmans and i got a huge surprise at grabouw x terra on the run.ok it was warm etc , but the run was difficult as i did not do enough offroad running leading up to the event.once you have done xterra it is difficult to hit the tar and the roadbike again.the swim is always a bitch (the start) as it is a free for all.as i am a strong but not fast swimmer i try to start on the side of the bunch as the start in the middle of the fast starters is just too hectic for me.you have to be calm and in good shape when you start the bike section.good luck.
  7. i love it when a plan comes together.well done conrad.
  8. too deep a question for me on a monday.i am still busy going through pictures taken on the mtb the past week or two to think of something that does not interest me in the least.why scratch where it is not itching?
  9. longer is not always better apparently it is technique that counts or so my wife says.sorry i am just in a good mood today.as for the rest of your question ride what you like as long as you ride.
  10. i am sram but logic tells me that a xt setup should not give you this much trouble.i suggest get a second opinion as this does not sound right.
  11. bought a wrong handlebar from them it was exchanged within 2 min of walking into the shop and walking out.ok it took me longer to walk out as I then had to buy some other stuff which I do not need now but might need one day.big thumbs up to chris and his staff.
  12. you are going to fall.my motto is the more i fall the less i hurt.by falling every now and then i have discovered that you are no longer afraid of falling therefore less tense on the bike and therefore tend to fall less.once you have tasted mtb i doubt whether you will call yourself a roadie again.welcome to the weird and wonderfull life that is mtb
  13. some of these girls made me think of some concoction my mom used to give me when i was a child Casterolie?
  14. first my condolences to the family of the deceased.my father summed it up when i was trying out for my drivers licence in Mosselbay 26 years ago.there used to be a shop that sold toys called the novelty shop.as we were driving my father said you must only remember 2 things when it comes to driving a car. 1.regard all other roadusers as fools. 2.a car is not a toy.if you want a toy go to the novelty shop and buy a toy.remember a car can kill you. Sure it might sound simplistic but it has kept me safe for 26 years of driving. I agree that it is not an accident when a speading overloaded unroadworthy vehicle driven by a poephol is involved in an accident, just like i hate it when they say eg a vehicle has overturned.bs it was a poephol doing something stupid as cars do not just fall over. again my condolences.
  15. I did not know the deceased , but share a common bond being cycling.Whatever the circumstances and whose fault it was no one deserves to die in circumstances like this.My condolences to her family and friends.
  16. i had a knee reconstruction a month ago.on the crutches and in a knee brace now for a month.the difficult part was not being able to make and carry my samie and coffee.the upside is that because my wife brought me breakfast in bed and then left me with fruit and a jug of water untill she comes back from work i have managed to lose 4 kg in the month and i was not even on my bike or doing any exercise.Me thinks it is all in the eating methods.I am maintaining the eating habit of not drinking 10+ coffees/flat whites a day with 2 sugars.cant wait for the bike.(ok so the fisio and ortophedic surgeon says another few months before back in majik forrest/meerendal/contermanskloof and surrounds) by the way i have a very clean bike at the moment because of boredom.
  17. no excuse whatsoever for tossing anything during a mtb race.I can only speak for mtb as I have not been on a road bike the last 20 odd years. This includes empty bombs, tubes etc.I always at least tell the person it is not on.
  18. do unto others as you wish others to do to you.I am a mtber but also own a car.It irritates me when i drive in my car and i see cyclist jumping robots, cycling on the wrong side of the road etc just as much as it irritates me when i am on my mtb and i have to dodge cars that skip robots etc.I do not know how to fix the problem , but at the most basic the buck stops with me and i have to keep my side/ slate clean.one of the few times when politicians has said something worth listening to was a few weeks back when the MEC of transport said that you cannot make the roads poephol proof.

    Dropped!

1991 army in kimberley.some of the okes thought they were superfit and decided to go for a long ride on a day off towards barkley west from kimberley.my roommate phoned a while later and asked to come and fetch him.i went as i thought mechanical.picked him up in my old bantam bakkie and he was very quiet.after many beers the evening and some stroh rum the story unfolded from the rest of the bunch.they were according to them going very fast and this local with roadbike and boots with overall rode them all in their moer.my friend duly dropped out and said if this was how cycling worked he wanted out as he thought his training was going great guns only to be dropped by the local.it later transpired that the local lives in barkley west and worked at kooperasie in kimberley and that was his mode of transport.it took my friend a long time to start cycling again and he never ever went out on the barkley road again.do not judge a book by it's cover and as my coach at varsity always said:the wider the base the higher the peak.
  20. agree with lukep
  21. he who wheres no helmet has nothing to protect.
  22. get the shots pal before you start chasing cars and barking at the moon with foam around the mouth.also noticed many more people walking with dogs not on leashes lately in the forrest.
  23. o i forgot i also get to stay home on sick leave and surf the hub the whole day.
  24. because of knee reconstruction surgery 8 days ago i could not be on the mtb and decided after 7 days on my back in bed to go fishing on a camping chair with my leg elevated near bonnievale in the breede river.weather was good and the best part is my wife brings me my beers with a smile as she sees me hop a long on the crutches.also invited 3 friends with their families and ended up braaing(rather eating the braai they made)and drinking beers and drifting in the cano while my 9 year old son was paddling.
  25. agree.i take it that if the guy selling does not return messages he is not a sellor.
