  1. I did not know the deceased , but share a common bond being cycling.Whatever the circumstances and whose fault it was no one deserves to die in circumstances like this.My condolences to her family and friends.
  2. i had a knee reconstruction a month ago.on the crutches and in a knee brace now for a month.the difficult part was not being able to make and carry my samie and coffee.the upside is that because my wife brought me breakfast in bed and then left me with fruit and a jug of water untill she comes back from work i have managed to lose 4 kg in the month and i was not even on my bike or doing any exercise.Me thinks it is all in the eating methods.I am maintaining the eating habit of not drinking 10+ coffees/flat whites a day with 2 sugars.cant wait for the bike.(ok so the fisio and ortophedic surgeon says another few months before back in majik forrest/meerendal/contermanskloof and surrounds) by the way i have a very clean bike at the moment because of boredom.
  3. no excuse whatsoever for tossing anything during a mtb race.I can only speak for mtb as I have not been on a road bike the last 20 odd years. This includes empty bombs, tubes etc.I always at least tell the person it is not on.
  4. do unto others as you wish others to do to you.I am a mtber but also own a car.It irritates me when i drive in my car and i see cyclist jumping robots, cycling on the wrong side of the road etc just as much as it irritates me when i am on my mtb and i have to dodge cars that skip robots etc.I do not know how to fix the problem , but at the most basic the buck stops with me and i have to keep my side/ slate clean.one of the few times when politicians has said something worth listening to was a few weeks back when the MEC of transport said that you cannot make the roads poephol proof.

    Dropped!

1991 army in kimberley.some of the okes thought they were superfit and decided to go for a long ride on a day off towards barkley west from kimberley.my roommate phoned a while later and asked to come and fetch him.i went as i thought mechanical.picked him up in my old bantam bakkie and he was very quiet.after many beers the evening and some stroh rum the story unfolded from the rest of the bunch.they were according to them going very fast and this local with roadbike and boots with overall rode them all in their moer.my friend duly dropped out and said if this was how cycling worked he wanted out as he thought his training was going great guns only to be dropped by the local.it later transpired that the local lives in barkley west and worked at kooperasie in kimberley and that was his mode of transport.it took my friend a long time to start cycling again and he never ever went out on the barkley road again.do not judge a book by it's cover and as my coach at varsity always said:the wider the base the higher the peak.
  6. agree with lukep
  7. he who wheres no helmet has nothing to protect.
  8. get the shots pal before you start chasing cars and barking at the moon with foam around the mouth.also noticed many more people walking with dogs not on leashes lately in the forrest.
  9. o i forgot i also get to stay home on sick leave and surf the hub the whole day.
  10. because of knee reconstruction surgery 8 days ago i could not be on the mtb and decided after 7 days on my back in bed to go fishing on a camping chair with my leg elevated near bonnievale in the breede river.weather was good and the best part is my wife brings me my beers with a smile as she sees me hop a long on the crutches.also invited 3 friends with their families and ended up braaing(rather eating the braai they made)and drinking beers and drifting in the cano while my 9 year old son was paddling.
  11. agree.i take it that if the guy selling does not return messages he is not a sellor.
  12. Big thumbs up to this shop and all the staff.Even if I browse there from time to time I have always been treated like a customer and friend.btw you can always chat to steven about fishing .my favorite shop for sure.maybe their attitude makes the differnece as I have been a supporter since moving to ct 15 years ago.
  13. I am following this with mixed emotions. On the one hand you have the principle of being paid peanuts and on the other side you have that if you act like a monkey i might have to pay you peanuts.I am an lawyer in private practice and has been so for 15 years plus.It amazes me how many times people think that lawyers are swimming in money. Many of my colleagus has closed down the last year or two based on a thing called global economic crises and the fallout of this. Some months go by that in order to keep my doors open I pay my staff from my own pocket as there is not enough money coming into the practice to pay them and I obviously do not draw a salary those months when this happens. The point is that many bussinesses have problems , but it will not help me to go and wave a banner infront of Dept of Justice or in front of my colleagues offices and preventing clients to enter their shops.Any sympathy I might have had for these people evaporated the moment you start baricading hospitals, harassing other workers etc and then you just piss me off.I then think that maybe you should not be earning any income from my tax monies which pays your salary and that you should be fired from your job and all the other jobless teachers should be given jobs instead of teaching other children in NZ /Aus /Uk. BOTTOM LINE IS THAT YOUR RIGHT TO STRIKE ENDS WHERE MY RIGHTS AS A RSA CITIZEN STARTS.
  14. 2 But use the 1 most of the time.Just keeping the other as a backup.Got the second one with the second hrm I bought.Luckily both same make just different models of sigma.I am at a loss as to why one should have so many hrm straps.
  15. olympics works best for me.the studs are only if you want to make the team of snorre and bakkies.

    *sigh*

if you cannot fix it with a hammer,it must be an electrical problem.
  17. ok i'm leaving office on the pretext of having some other urgent business.(i do not feel bad doing this as many did this during swc me included)phone off the hook, cel switched off, wife and kids sent to visit relatives until i phone them, dog's food put out, home visitor bell disconnected, creepy crauly on timer, enough biltong and some good coffee as well as cooldrinks(read windhoek light) in the cooler.not missing this.over and out.
  18. Racingsnail's comment just made my day.
  19. According to their website the costs for Tygerberg Mtb is R250/year for this current year.If you join after 1 July 2010 you will pay a fee of R150 for the balance of the year on condition that you pay to be a member for the next year. The expected membership fee for next year is R300.You will therefore pay R450 for 18 months if you join in July 2010 and you will be covered untill 31 Dec 2011.This will then give you free riding in majik forrest/meerendal and hillcrest.I do not bother with a CSA license or PPA membership.
  20. I have been a mtb rider for 15years plus.My son has now taken to the sport.Instead of renewing my PPA membership as I have done for the last many years and going to races all over the place,I have now joined Tygerberg Mtb club and I ride the trails around Durbanville area with my son.(majik forrest/hillcrest/contermanskloof/meerendal)I have found that I am enjoying this much more than being one of thousands of riders jockeying for position on race days.As for the costs,I think it is getting expensive if you include the travelling, accommodation, and everything that goes with it.I personally get more value(not necessarily measured in money) when I see my son full of mud and tired as a dog telling me this is the life when sitting at the top of majik forrest. If the entry fee can be justified for what you get from the race,it is still acceptable for me as most forms of entertainment is expensive.I just do not enter races anymore as I found what I am looking for on my own with my son.To each his own though.
  21. i bought a key ring from them once.it worked fine for a while untill i lost my keys.
  22. i will second the choice of olympics as well.best value for money i have ever bought.
  23. Ride and/or Tread are my choices.
  24. put a small piece of highly visible string on the powerlink if you have it in your pack.if your chain breaks en route and you are tired and maybe hands full of greassy stuff when fiddling with the powerlink it can become lost between the mud and leaves.i have found that a red piece of string makes it easier to find as most of the time if you are a first time chainbraker during the race you are allready a bit flustered.practice the breaking and fixing part a few times before hand though and cross your fingers before the ride that it does not brake.
  25. I tried mtb tyres once and apart from the smell of tyres burning the noise should have been an indicator that this not to be done.Long story short don't do it unless you want new tyres soon. There was some rubber lying all over the place. The wife was a bit upset but not as upset as me as I had to buy a new tyre.
