  1. It reminds me a bit about the comment from Roy Keane when asked if player x will be starting a game as his wife gave birth and he commented"he should be playing,he did not give birth did he"
  2. karcher still going strong after 11 years
  3. Saw Mark from GTN also took part and said it was one of the most brutal events he has ever taken part in. Hats off for volunteering.
  4. the views are just stunning.I would love to ride my bike there , but I fear my smokers lungs wont enjoy it. I really enjoyed watching this year's Giro.
  5. simone halep currently serving (and fighting a doping violation) just got red flagged for another alledged doping offence from another sample taken at a different date.
  6. Most of my races feel like its about double the distance that I trained for
  7. Saw some pictures of the place the Alpine F1 team were staying at. Properly spoeling away.
  8. i also miss being ultra fit but not missing being ultra sore
  9. Good luck to all doing the Two Oceans this coming weekend.
  10. I watched the whole race and it was worth it. Van de poel has amazing bike handling skills. Like he said you need a bit of luck as well to win. Would have liked to see a head to head race with him and Wout.
  11. on what forum did he advertise?
  12. I have been to Hartswater before. Cannot remember that I met one person who could speak English nevermind having such English sounding names in Hartswater. Just my 2 cents worth
  13. Entered knysna extreme 0.5 in november so started running again after not running consistently for a long time. Did my first 10 km run today as my long runs has progressively gotten longer. I have forgotten how much I enjoy running.
  14. it was fascinating watching the race
  15. that is mtb territory for me
  16. I am currently running a 25 teeth cassette on an ultegra 6600 derailleur I am thinking of putting a 30 teeth on to make climbing easier for an upcoming race. I wish to know whether I can run a 30T or if a 27T is the biggest I can go with the current derailleur. Shimano says not 30T but different forums indicate that shimano has a conservative approach and that a 30 T can be put on. Any feedback will be appreciated as I do not want to buy and then discover it does not work.
  17. I use a continental indoor specific tyre and it is still going strong after a few years and I do most of my training on the idt.
  18. Anything other than a pool in my books is an ows. The ultimate would be to swim in the same conditions ie dam/sea you are going to race in, but if you do not have access to the sea it is still better to swim in a dam/lake etc than in a pool in my view.
  19. I lay a big part of the blame on the athlete. Tri is SWIM bike run. If you are not a good enough swimmer and IM has to cater for the weakest swimmers to make it safe then you as the athlete is to blame. I coach a few triathletes and when a person comes to me and say I want to do a tri but I hope they cancel or shorten the swim I will not take them on as a coached athlete. I will advise them to go and do bike run events. I have spoken at numerous events to people who are standing wide eyed before the swim and telling me they only swam open water once or twice. Some people regard a 70.3 or IM as a bucket list event and whether there is a swim or shortened swim is not their concern. The want to tick the box and get the medal and move on. I fully understand that not all entrants are like that but the number of people feeling like that has def grown in my experience. Very few tris are held in a swimming pool so to get better at ows you have to swim in open water. In my view the swim leg should only be cancelled or shortened not because the conditions are difficult but too dangerous to swim. The dwindling number of entrants and the rising number of first timers is a hint of what is happening to the sport I have been doing since 1987 with my first Radio 5/ Perm series event at Hobie beach. I have seen the gentle drift from this being an adventure event with risks to an event that caters to the will and whims of unprepared first timers.
  20. its a bit like if your feet are smelling and your nose is running you are built upside down. On a more serious note i have a pair of shoes for the idt and another pair for outside. Def sweat more on the idt even with fan and socks. I place news paper in them and hang up to dry in shade but well ventilated place and it seems to work for me. Hope you get sorted.
  21. If you are asking this question for the 5 March race it is probably race nerves and tapering kicking in. My suggestion would be to stick with what you trained with as all your long sessions should be done by now. To lend out your ears at this time and get advice what works for other people would be a recipe for disaster as nutrition is highly individual. Just my 2 cents worth.
  22. that piece of road has had me in tears if the wind catches you out alone. But it also brings a smile to my face when its early morning with not a breath of wind.
  23. I am still scarred from 2014 East Londen 70.3. Was about to pass a guy on the bike when he stuck out his hand and said don't pass me. I thought what a twit but did not say anything and passed him. As I settled into the tri bars and looked up ahead I saw it. Allison with a complete see through tri pant. I could even make out the red sunburn marks on her white cheeks. There was plenty of Allison to see. I immediately sat up and heard the oke I just passed having a laugh and shouting "I told you not to pass" I burst out laughing slammed on the brakes and we had a lighthearted chat about Allison. I vowed I will never be an allison.
  24. just a heads up. past sunday friend got accosted near cloetesville on his way by bike to jonkershoek by a f...r pulling a knife on him.managed to swerve around and get away. about 9 am.
  25. my 2 cents worth. if you are feeling meh and cant get the hr up when trying to rev the engine rest.depending on your training history it might be more days /weeks that you need to take off to get the zip back. as to hrv it only helps and gets to be a better indicator of things when tracking it over a period of time.
