  5. but off course.firstly i am a horrible pool swimmer but I have never realy struggled in ow.i guess that comes from swimming ow as a youngster.70.3 distance wise i am always in low 30's and IM ballpark between 1;10 and 1;15.but then again i do not work too hard in the water.i was lucky to be around great open water swimmers/triathletes in PE in 1987-1991.if all else fails i resort back to what Kevin Richards always said.slow is smooth and smooth is fast.to swim robben island takes consistent swimming.once you can swim comfortable 3-4 times a week ballpark 5 km per swim you should be ok.but and this is a big but nature will always have the last say.I have swum 4 km sub 1 hour but also 48 minutes to cover less than 200m depending on conditions.drop me a dm and i will be happy discuss your endevour.it is truly a great swim to do.
  6. i come from a seaside town and the school(only one in town)did not have a swimming pool so the sea was my pool.started with triathlons and did my first in 1987(the old radio 5 /Perm series).i have always enjoyed open water swimming as can be seen from my ppic.this was taken this year during a robben island crossing.the distance is not so much the thing that catches you out,but the elements.mother nature is a fickle mistress.i hate pool swims but if that is what it takes to experience ow swimming so be it.
  7. synced and showing on garmin connect but nothing on discovery
  8. I use venteze but only like 1 or perhaps 2 dosis a day.would I be banned?
  9. my sister in law stayed in Tauranga now in new Plymouth.visited them quite a few times and must say that riding the trials on the mtb in redwood forrest and taking the road bike up the mount in new Plymouth has been some of my best rides. just cruising on the coastal walkways also most enjoyable.rode the bone collector.enjoy the new experience and best wishes in the land of the long cloud.

  17. o and i stopped reading tread mag because of the smell.
  18. i used to read ride bicycle etc etc untill i realized they are writing about bikes i cannot afford year on year the same sort of articles.but thats just me.it is not that the price is the issue as i have found out when buying the latest triathlon magazines.its just that what they write in there i have heard and read previously
  19. will keep an eye out for your bike. lets hope for the best.feel your pain as i have had 2 bikes liberated from me as well.
  20. its all about the journey.when i started i was 108kg.very self conscious on the first x terra so i hid with baggy clothes which was a bummer. 2 years later i am down to 86 and no longer care what people think.I found a local tannie who did some alterations to the biggest tri vest i could find.also had my vetsuite customed at coral to put more neoprene in on the upper body. As long as you are comfortable do not worry what others might think.above all enjoy your race.as for the standing most time in the saddle and only now and then standing.more to give my fat ass a rest than anything performance related.

  24. went to nat tissink in the end.going there this coming friday for video feedback.most difficult part was swimming in that endless pool.just felt that i could never get into a rhythm.first time in such a funny enviroment.wonder how my stroke would be viewed when swimming in the open water vs endless pool?
