  1. Rather than derail the running thread I'll put this here. Eddie Izzard has just completed 32 marathons in 31 days so is in the news a bit. What I didn't know is that Eddie recently asked to be called by she/her pronoun. The articles I've seen are honouring that, but social media is obviously more umm strongly opinionated. I really applaud/praise Eddie for always pushing the gender boundaries in main(ish)stream since forever ago. It must be so lifechanging for normal people who are 'internalising' through similar decisions to see some high profile support and vocalisation, and potentially a teeny bit of acceptance.
  2. I would buy a dedicated unit - as in not a watch. My fenix 6 in ultratrack is shockingly off on distance, like by 10kms on 50kms run. That'll be very difficult for you to manage a million kms into your run. Edit: my very unqualified opinion ...
  3. The captain kicked the bucket yesterday fyi...
  4. Eddie Izzard just finished running 32 marathons, in 31 days (back to back on final day...) all on a treadmill(!) and raised 250k pounds. Pretty super effort.
  5. (not really a reply, more anecdotal) I followed a bodybuilding type diet for probably 10 years. Everything I ate I saw macros and grams of protein. Later on after ditching animal it really was a breath of fresh air where I actively decided to stop thinking about protein recommendations and all those things. It's been a revelation. I've always eaten 'clean' so there's no danger of going ballistic, but I'm now just eating and not analyzing and worrying. You'll be surprised how well the body goes with just good food.
  6. Ha Its only been a week... ???? I seem to time it very well each day. Our rain on the other hand is very warm, so it's not going to kill us. Our roads though seem to generate and pool more water than has actually rained. You can't avoid it by running on the pavement - because there is none, and there's just this torrent of flooding across the roads. It's fun for a while, only.
  7. In other news: I'm tired of running in the rain.
  8. I'm sure it's worth raising. Not sure how you find the right person to receive your mail but yes, you could be one of many complaints which gives Salomon reason to think there is actually a problem. If they know of the defect you might even score some new shoes but I wouldn't bank on that, nor the warranty holding up but I've never read one of those properly so that's just a guess.
  9. Cyclocross is getting more and more ridiculous each time I watch it. That beach sand section is outrageous
  10. Thats an interesting way to think of it. Makes sense I suppose. I have managed to half mangle a bolt on my stem, while trying to loosen it to have a play with the handlebar angle, so ja, there are as you say multiple reasons for having correct measurements.
  11. I won't lie I'm scared to ride my bike now. I worry it'll just collapse into a pile of bits. (partial comic sans applied) I can't believe how 'loose' the correct torque measurement is. I must have overtightened everything by like ... 100 fold in the past.
  12. Why not for running? I'd think it would be best to stick to the same brand if it works so well in the road shoe. Or at least it should be your first to test out. I have wide feet so Altra have been a gamechanger for me. I don't see myself ever in anything else, both road and trail. (as long as they don't drastically change their shape/lasts) I did though have Hokas pre-Altra. They initially worked well for width but each subsequent model seemed narrower (and more rigid which as it turns out started throwing my gait out and giving issues).
  13. I can only answer from a non-speed-seeking perspective. Firstly - there is no 'good' pace in general trail running. Its obvious but it should probably be said. You could run a barely-dirt path 2 metres wide and pan-flat, or you could scramble up an overgrown side of a cliff. Speeds are very relative - same for road to an extent but much much more evident on trail.(I've often read that trail training is usually better measured in time rather than distance for this reason) If you use trail as your long slow day, you can forget about pace anyway (right?) and just look around you. You do live in a spectacular country and I'm sad you're not permanently on the trails... I'm sure it'll make your legs/ calves/ ankles stronger for switching terrain, but then if you keep up the speed work elsewhere (again this is far from my wheelhouse) surely it won't affect your road pace.
  14. It had to happen eventually.... carbon fibre enters trail running shoes The North Face Vectiv https://www.thenorthface.com/vectiv
  15. I'm dying to try one of these types of events. But we're probably going to give Addo a go, and thats a week, two weeks (?) afterwards, so I probably won't do this one. Made a note of the website though.
  16. Short of someone coming with a real life useful answer... The Cango Marathon (I just checked) is in Feb, one: I've heard amazing things about it, two: go lurk around IF (big if) it goes ahead and I'm sure you can spy some club gazebos etc
  17. I was actually going to write her down too, so ja I agree she was a huge part. But did she time rising mma popularity perfectly to make herself famous, and then head off elsewhere and lose it all along the way. Or did she herself make mma 'famous'? If you see what I mean. dunno
  18. It happens man. Some people just capture the masses and bring eyes to the (fringe) sports. Floyd sort of did it for boxing, although that sport has had a few good characters. Lance did it for cycling. Bolt did it for athletics. Alex Honnold climbing. Phelps swimming. McGregor certainly did it for mma.
  19. (Just looking at these examples above) What about trying to sub out the mince for black beans in the wraps, maybe the fajitas, or even add a taco meal in (similar theme?). Black beans can get super 'jammy' if you whack them in a pan, some seasoning, or try get that refried bean texture almost. Our go-to meals when we're min on effort and time but max on enjoyment is tacos or wraps. Guac, salsa/pico/jalapenos, some greens, black beans, maybe brown rice.. magic. The other thing you can try experiment with is oven roasted lentils, chickpeas, or cannellini beans. Add one of those to your existing meals and see if you can work that in for your protein choice. (If you still actively think of meals as needing you know the ubiquitous x amount of protein and x carbs etc) Sometime we just fill a tray of olive oil and balsamic drizzled veg and either or both of the above, leave it in the oven for an age... delicious. Curry? Very easy to keep veg, plenty authentic recipes are veg regardless. Burgers - the only reasonable way is to find the fake meat substitute I think. Theres one or two of the plant-based patties that I've enjoyed but mostly they're tasteless and stodgy. Pizza - will be a challenge if chorizo or pepperoni is your highlight. We for the first time scattered the innards of a beyond sausage on our last pizza and it was really good, but I could leave it to be honest. Artichokes, olives, mushrooms, roast garlic, sweet or hot peppers, will always be my first choices now. But yes it can take some adventurous testing. That was a hellova long way to say I don't have a recipe book recommendation, we just search the internet for a recipe that sounds good if its something new we want to try. If I may also ask, why did you decide to try this change, or contemplate it in the first place?
  20. Of course Bernie was there too
  21. Muradov brought the haymaker. Chandlers fists though, good grief they're deadly
  22. That was incredible, Jim is a proper freak, I mean what can you even say about 12 secs, that's spectacular. the most amazing thing for me were his splits - the entire 100kms he remained within 3:40 and 3:42 a km. Staggering... Edgar your champ did well, shame it just so happened I switched on to check in at 5 hours just as she was being passed by the flying Tanguy. Cool event.
  23. Ja and probably a few years old too, most of the new Pepsi's seem to all be on the jubilee bracelet. The bezel freaks me out. My OCD can't handle it ...
  24. Minister knobbag here wearing my favorite watch. Sigh...
