    Archery.

Funny timing for this thread to be revived because we went to an archery intro course today at zoo lake. IT WAS THE BEST! My word what a great sport. I'll 1000% be back
  2. So far this year the average price of a single Super Bowl ticket is $7589. Which is almost 20% higher than last year. The stadium will only be filled to a third capacity with 22000 people, of which 7500 tickets have been given away for free to Healthcare workers. Pretty cool gesture.
  3. Hehe, yes, I did a little double count there just to make the moan sound a little better... 2 hours is a lot better. But tomorrow we've gone from no shedding under the old schedule to 2 x 2 hour sessions in the new one. Little bit frustrating.
  4. Its so sad. There is quite literally nothing you can do. And if we're honest what use is standing in the road peacefully protesting going to do. (Not wanting to open a large can of worms here, but on the face of it) This is why I understand when people dig up roads and burn things to get some attention. They're just so desperately out of options.
  5. Same as my folks (and they're not out East so you're not alone). But they just had a 24 hour outage till this morning. And their substation must be one of the oldest ricketiest in Joburg because every time it rains with any sort of vigour, they're out.
  6. Haha great selfie! you look thrilled to be out in the dark and wet
  7. Third 'shed in 12 hours. It's going well here. Really well.
  8. What wizardry is in that seatpost? Seems to have a lot of extra angles to it
  9. Last month they said the board would meet by mid-Feb. Whether that brings a decision or not I don't know. Its dead in the water either way.
  10. Rather than derail the running thread I'll put this here. Eddie Izzard has just completed 32 marathons in 31 days so is in the news a bit. What I didn't know is that Eddie recently asked to be called by she/her pronoun. The articles I've seen are honouring that, but social media is obviously more umm strongly opinionated. I really applaud/praise Eddie for always pushing the gender boundaries in main(ish)stream since forever ago. It must be so lifechanging for normal people who are 'internalising' through similar decisions to see some high profile support and vocalisation, and potentially a teeny bit of acceptance.
  11. I would buy a dedicated unit - as in not a watch. My fenix 6 in ultratrack is shockingly off on distance, like by 10kms on 50kms run. That'll be very difficult for you to manage a million kms into your run. Edit: my very unqualified opinion ...
  12. The captain kicked the bucket yesterday fyi...
  13. Eddie Izzard just finished running 32 marathons, in 31 days (back to back on final day...) all on a treadmill(!) and raised 250k pounds. Pretty super effort.
  14. (not really a reply, more anecdotal) I followed a bodybuilding type diet for probably 10 years. Everything I ate I saw macros and grams of protein. Later on after ditching animal it really was a breath of fresh air where I actively decided to stop thinking about protein recommendations and all those things. It's been a revelation. I've always eaten 'clean' so there's no danger of going ballistic, but I'm now just eating and not analyzing and worrying. You'll be surprised how well the body goes with just good food.
  15. Ha Its only been a week... ???? I seem to time it very well each day. Our rain on the other hand is very warm, so it's not going to kill us. Our roads though seem to generate and pool more water than has actually rained. You can't avoid it by running on the pavement - because there is none, and there's just this torrent of flooding across the roads. It's fun for a while, only.
  16. In other news: I'm tired of running in the rain.
  17. I'm sure it's worth raising. Not sure how you find the right person to receive your mail but yes, you could be one of many complaints which gives Salomon reason to think there is actually a problem. If they know of the defect you might even score some new shoes but I wouldn't bank on that, nor the warranty holding up but I've never read one of those properly so that's just a guess.
  18. Cyclocross is getting more and more ridiculous each time I watch it. That beach sand section is outrageous
  19. I know! People are so weird, I love it.
  20. Thats an interesting way to think of it. Makes sense I suppose. I have managed to half mangle a bolt on my stem, while trying to loosen it to have a play with the handlebar angle, so ja, there are as you say multiple reasons for having correct measurements.
  21. I won't lie I'm scared to ride my bike now. I worry it'll just collapse into a pile of bits. (partial comic sans applied) I can't believe how 'loose' the correct torque measurement is. I must have overtightened everything by like ... 100 fold in the past.
  22. I used to get up at 4:30 and after not too it became routine for my body, so I could set my alarm to the tiniest quietest setting and it was enough to wake me up. Often I would wake up a min or two before the alarm anyway. This obviously isn't happening to you so I'm not sure why I wrote it. Sorry, no, nothing to suggest...
  23. Why not for running? I'd think it would be best to stick to the same brand if it works so well in the road shoe. Or at least it should be your first to test out. I have wide feet so Altra have been a gamechanger for me. I don't see myself ever in anything else, both road and trail. (as long as they don't drastically change their shape/lasts) I did though have Hokas pre-Altra. They initially worked well for width but each subsequent model seemed narrower (and more rigid which as it turns out started throwing my gait out and giving issues).
  24. I can only answer from a non-speed-seeking perspective. Firstly - there is no 'good' pace in general trail running. Its obvious but it should probably be said. You could run a barely-dirt path 2 metres wide and pan-flat, or you could scramble up an overgrown side of a cliff. Speeds are very relative - same for road to an extent but much much more evident on trail.(I've often read that trail training is usually better measured in time rather than distance for this reason) If you use trail as your long slow day, you can forget about pace anyway (right?) and just look around you. You do live in a spectacular country and I'm sad you're not permanently on the trails... I'm sure it'll make your legs/ calves/ ankles stronger for switching terrain, but then if you keep up the speed work elsewhere (again this is far from my wheelhouse) surely it won't affect your road pace.
