  1. Well, I wouldn't judge the whole bike by the cranks alone... What I can see is DT Swiss rims... I would bet good money that that shock is a RS Reba solo air. and I suspect an XT dérailleur at the back...
  2. My eyes are still hurting from trying to see what shock they have on the black and green Scale!
  3. Well as the heading says, the 2011 Scott range of bike are being launched in SA on 29 Jul... or so I hear... Included in the 2011 range is the sub 900 gram 26er Scale frame and 949 gram 29er frame. yum. I've also noticed a 2011 scale in a shop the other day and they said I could have it for round about R12k. I did learn a secret about the 2011 range by looking at the rear of the bike. I don't know how much of a secret it really is so I won't spill the beans here, but if you really need to know, go search on the probike.co.za website. With a bit of searching online you might see a sneak peek of the 2011 Genius LT too. It has a very interesting frame design going on... But I'm more interested in the new 2011 Sparks. Reason being, I'm in the process of booking myself one of the first 2011 Sparks to land in SA. There are NO specs available online, or at least I couldn't find any. Not even a pikchah. My source also told me that hunting for specs online would be futile. So all I know about the bike I'm trying to book is that it's XT specked. No idea what color it is, no scoobs on wheelsets and shocks... The wait is driving me crasy! Another bit of "skinner" I picked up was the possibility of a 29er duel in the mix... 9 days to go...
  4. Crashes like these are nasty. And the answer to "how did it happen" is "quickly". I sympathize with all involved in incidents like these. I was involved in a crash once and another time it was only by grace from above that I managed to NOT be involved in an incident like this and the feeling directly after both was the same. After my fall, I lay in the middle of the intersection and took count of my fingers, arms, toes, legs, chest, head... who know for how long... Same thing after almost being involved in a crash as above... I remember taking stock of body parts whilst on the bike. Auto-pilot of NOTE. Lads, I'm glad you're both alright.
  5. The only thing I'm not 100% sold on, on the abouve spec is the Tora. I do suppose it's a step up from Dart AND it's air... You can't have your cake and eat it ne... As for the rest, it looks and sounds like a very good deal. My crystal ball sees a wheelset upgrade in your future too
  6. I never had any flats running Maxxis Detonators. Currently running Maxxis Xenith Hors Categories. Got them on my 2nd hand Marida which had 1700km on the Cat-eye. I've put on a further 600km or so and they haven't had any incidents either... I run at 7 BAR and weigh 80.5kg. My girlfriend runs Conti GP4000 tyres and I inflate them to about 6.5bar and she also never had any issues... But then again, she doesn't exactly rack up the kms... She's maybe done 400km this year so far... This made me think now... How do you know if it's time to replace slicks like the Xenith??? It's not like you can see how much tread is left cause there never was any to begin with...
  7. What are you doing Gatiepie? Are you an American? Has receiving this piece of mail harmed your person in any way? Then you need not refer to the new consumer act. Us Windhoek drinking South Africans don't sue new small businesses. Always keep it real, and remember... I'm watching you
  8. At first glance I also thought so, BUT I received the newsletter on my work address... And thehubsa only knows my personal address... The plot thickens... The only cycle related stuff I get on my work address is - drum roll - Nissan MTB event reminders! Come Mr Pienaar, fess-up! Are you or are you not involved in the soliciting of young bicycle frames!?!
  9. LOL, I said I am temped... But the temptation is starting to feel like a challenge... and I don't like backing out of a challenge I learnt the sandwich bag trick from doing the Moo mall night rides. Put foot in favorite MTB sock. Put sandwich bag over foot. Put foot in shoe. Done. I tried it at this week's night ride and it solved my "numb from cold" toe issues. It ain't pretty, but it works a charm.
  10. The routes are pretty well marked and you'll have tons of fun if you keep following the cycle markers. But if you want to see everything Groenies has to offer in one session, you'll most likely need someone that know the routes.
  11. You can pick up route maps at the gates... or at least there were some at the gate this weekend... And a bunch of Dutch soccer supporters... Yea, the trails are looking good. The part leading up to the Grassland switchbacks is a bit bumpy... but not to bad... However... as good as the trails are... I had my first ENDO this weekend going down what arguably is the steepest downhill at Groenies... Only a couple of scrapes and a bruised palm...
  12. mmm... All I have are arm-warmers, leg-warmers, T shirt under cycle shirt, rain jacket, windtex long finger gloves, sandwich bags for the feet and a new untested buff... -2 you say....
  13. Shjo okes... LEDs aren't just a light bulb you buy. They have different specs. Better specs cost better money. Advice I can give... If you're replacing Cree LEDs you'll more than likely want to replace them with an LED with the same body... So XP-Whatever get replaced with an XP-Better whatever. or XRs with XRs and MCs with MCs. XPG - R5bins are the berries at this point with ragards to efficiency. Yes there are more efficient Cree models out there, but the XPG R5's are easily available. You could theoretically replace an XR with an XP but because the size of the die differ, it'll change the beam pattern from your lens/reflector. The best prices on Cree LEDs is probably at www.cutter.com.au and shipping takes less than a week. You might find cheaper rates at DX, but you'll wait at least 3 weeks for them. Locally you can try Rabtron/Communica/RS Components. But they are a bit deer and tend not to have The ****(apparently that's what Lance calls "cool stuff")... Rabtron however does have good prices on BuckPuck LED drives...MaxUmis2010-06-10 09:22:54
  14. you can work on +- R90 for every R500 spent. If you keep your orders small, say under $50 then they sometimes don't even get VAT charged to them...
  15. I do recall a thread on replacing the battery not too long ago. I doubt the battery can cost you more than R50. Worth a try on something you would have replaced anyway.
  16. The CS300 uses the same sensor as the CS200. But the packaging on these sensors only says something like "For CS200". Just in case you didn't know. BTW they sell for R395 plus a CS200 bike mount here in GP. Else just open the sensor and replace the battery.
  17. WOW!!!
  18. I just noticed on the Argus website, that this race, to be raced on 23 Oct, is a seeding race for next year's Argus... So... Is it back on???
  19. What is wrong with that terrain you okes are riding? It looks... smooth??? What kind of MTB can handle such terrain!?!?!? Looks like you guys had fun!
  20. The site does feel like stop-go traffic on th N1 on a Friday afternoon... I thought it was just me daydreaming about hitting some single track.
  21. The gruber assist is the only one that we know about. If it could be built for 31.6mm' date=' it could be built for anything. Making the conspiracy even deeper. Batteries could even be stored in the frame where it runs from the crank to headtube. Throw in some nice light batteries in the construction of the frame, no one will ever know about it. [/quote'] Maybe... the frame IS the battery! when constructing the frame they added a couple of Li-Ion wraps to the carbon!!! Genius! ? Even better, the frame is a solar panel ? ? Haha! This is so funny. We all seem to like the "science fiction" side of things! But back to reality. Solar panels embedded in the carbon maybe could give you a extra 20 watts. Solar technology has really made some big gains in the last few years. So, not a bad idea actually. How small do you think that they could build a motor to give something small like 20 watts or something? Small enough to fit into the BB itself maybe? It could then go totally undetected. 20watts over the duration of a pro tour could make a major difference on the last day. Well I suppose the motor could BE the BB... And by weaving a solar panel into the back of his shirt you could effectively double the "solar panel area". That's why he didn't stand up, because the shirt panel connects to the bike through his shorts and saddle...
  22. No... We don't have the technology yet...

  24. The Grubber Assist is an example of such a system, not necessarily the system in question. Just because a Lithium Ion 18650 battery is 18.3mm in diameter doesn't mean you can't have a cell custom made to produce 3.7V from 15mm... or heaven forbid use 3 x AA NiMh batteries.
  25. I wanted to make a comment about engineers that use words like "nein" or "das"... It would have fitted perfectly with that demo video! but decided against it because it has been said that those guys attend lessons on how to laugh... But it will be VERY entertaining to shoot past a bunch of elites all sounding like cheap little RC toys! However... I still am convinced the technology does exist to silently deliver some extra power to pedals.
