  1. I didn't like him much in Walking Dead, but thought he did a good job as the Punisher. Then I saw him in The Accountant and he was amazing in that role. What clinched it for me was when I saw more than half his posts on Instagram are of him and and his Staffy. Any man who likes Staffies can't be all bad! Edit: Beg yer pardon - went to check and I think it's a pitbull, not a Staffy.
  2. The usual mistake: Stretching a story that would fit in 8 episodes to 13 episodes. I'm a huge superhero fan but I watched the first 3 episodes, then got bored and decided I'll finish it later. Still haven't gone back to finish it.
  3. I had a cat who used to knead and suckle all the time. Blankets were soaking wet! Took a photo of Jock Jr, Demon Dog, curled op on my bed in the sun. He is most definitely not a winter's dog. Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk
  4. To spice up those cold winter nights.
  5. Coron Island, Palawan.
  6. A Quiet Place (2018) 8/10. A great example of how good writing, directing and casting can overcome the handicap of a small budget. Okay, it helps that Krasinski is married to Emily Blunt so he had a good lead actress from the start. But this should get him noticed as a danged good director.
  7. Yes! I finally made a pork belly with some decent crackling. Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk
  8. How long do you cook it and at what temperature? I don't have a lot of experience with eisbeins. I found this recipe that says about 3 hours at about 175C. Does that seem about right to you? I don't think this guy used pickled or smoked eisbeins, though. https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/222015/grillhaxe-grilled-eisbein-pork-shanks/
  9. Never, ever try to steal an eagle's food.
  10. That doesn't sound right. Never noticed anything like that with ours.
  11. Nice. We got an electric pressure cooker a while ago as well. Never really used it that much but this winter my brother learned how to make chicken soup in it. It's ridiculous: Throw in a whole chicken and about half an hour later you have chicken soup!
  12. A friend of mine posted these on Facebook. Discovered while scaffolding shopping, he says. Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk
  13. Rampage (2018) 8/10. Just pure fun. Dwayne Johnson being himself and giant monsters on a rampage, with a drawling, twinkling Jeffrey Dean Morgan thrown in as a bonus.
  14. Ready Player One (2018). 8/10. Loads of fun. Much better than I thought it would be after all the negative comments and feedback. Typical Spielberg adventure romp set in a game world with an 80s soundtrack. Pity they couldn't bring everything in the book to screen but nevertheless I enjoyed it.
  15. Seems like you might be able to have some fun with a MTB here. Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk
  16. That's good to know, thanks. I mostly cook pork and chicken these days, though. Trying to keep the costs down. Plus, pork and chicken are amazingly versatile once you start experimenting. Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk
  17. Ouch. I'm still new to using it, so I didn't even realise it was supposed to go in a cold oven the first time I used it. Thankfully it survived. What amazes me is how hot and how long you can bake dishes without worrying it will dry out. Basically, once it's in the oven you can forget about it. When I roasted that chicken I wanted to cook veg with it, so I threw in some potatoes, carrots, onions, etc with some chicken stock. I think I had it in somewhere between 90 minutes and two hours at 220 to get the potatoes cooked, and the chicken was still cooked tender and juicy.
  18. Ooh, I'm definitely not knowledgeable enough to answer that question. All I know is I roasted a chicken with veg last week in the Romertopf and it came out perfectly soft and moist, and I made my pulled pork this weekend and it was everything I had ever imagined it to be.
  19. These things are amazing. You soak them in water before you use them. This allows the porous clay to absorb water which it releases during cooking. Therefore, you don't have to add as much fluid or extra oil as you would during normal cooking/roasts. You start off in a cold oven so the clay doesn't crack due to sudden temperature changes but since it releases moisture as it cooks, you are almost guaranteed that your roasts will be moist and succulent, no matter how long you cook it. And in the end you just take the lid off to get that crispy skin on your chicken, pork, etc. You can read a bit about them here: http://xn--rmertopf-n4a.com/english/vorteile_roemertopf.htm
  20. Started watching the 2006 Friday Night Lights series made by Peter Berg, because there's not much on TV I'm interested in at the moment. I'd always heard it was good but never thought I'd enjoy a drama series about Texas high school kids playing American football. So glad to be proven wrong! Scary thing is how much it reminds me of going to high school in Pietersburg in the late 80s. The clannish behaviour, the conservative, morally superior attitudes, the religion that pervades everything, the obsession with rugby... Scary stuff. Fortunately Berg is good enough to keep the story flowing and doesn't allow the series to get bogged down or overly preachy. Only halfway with the first season but so far, so good.
  21. Mwhua ha ha! Managed to "borrow" my sister's Romertopf clay cooker. She's never getting it back! These things are awesome. Edit: Not my photo (obviously).
  22. Homemade pulled pork burger on toasted ciabatta with BBQ sauce, mustard, melted cheese and spring onions. Sent from my SM-A520F using Tapatalk
  23. Man, I was really proud of my homemade pizza until I saw Captain Fantastic's post...
  24. Train to Busan (2016) 7/10. Man, Korea makes good movies. I'm not a big zombie fan so I was reluctant to watch Train to Busan, despite all the good things I heard about it. Turns out this movie was made for everyone who loves good movies, not just zombie fans. There's action, drama, comedy, a love story... A little bit of everything for everyone, blended together to make a damn fine movie. If you're a zombie fan you'll probably enjoy it even more than I did. Acts of Vengeance (2017) 6/10. Reminds me a bit of Bruce Willis's Death Wish remake. Both of them were decent action stars, both of them seem to cling to those days (in these movies, anyway). I didn't have high hopes so I wasn't too disappointed. A couple of nice gimmicks and kudos to Antonio Banderas for doing a lot of the hard work himself. Loved all the Marcus Aurelius references as well. But, in the end, it's just another generic, predictable B-grade action move.
