  1. Thanx Thug, I found some Alex r600 rims from crc, will see if I can get them locally.
  2. Such a sweet bike! I'm trying to find wheels like that in JHB, and it seems just short of impossible!
  3. I remember that. In fact, I think it's been like that every year. The start is quite chaotic with no real starting groups. Just be aware of that. Luckily the race is so small that it didn't really make any difference.
  4. I did it last year, it was a very lekka race , but like Bassman said.. It's looong! We had quite a bit of wind last year, so the last 20km were hard. Also, its a smaller race, so if you're not in the front half of the race the last 20km you might fight the wind alone.
  5. I have been injured for most of the year. So my training for the Berg and Bush has just started! Since I have been back on the bike, I am able to do a 70km road ride comfortably.. and did Breedts nek on saturday for the first time this year (only to the top and back). This week.. I am in bed with Flu. I am starting to get a bit worried, but 10 weeks should get me fit enough to finish (please tell me I am right) and hopefully to enjoy it whilst doing so!
  6. I have to agree, unless your insurance premium is lowered when your bike has a tracking device, it hardly feels worth it to pay an extra R65/month. (I hope you have more than one bike insured for that R200 or your bike is worth a lot, otherwise you are getting shafted) On the other hand, the only way to stop bicycle theft is to up the risk of being caught. If most bicycles were tracked, it would definitely lower the amount of bikes stolen and then sold for R400 on the street corner.
  7. Doing my first CM tonight! I'm SUPER exited. Got plenty of lights, but still trying to organize a retro bike!
  8. Old thread, I know, but I did not want the Search function Nazi's to go berserk.. I just received an email from Tracetec. I enquired about a tracking device when our bikes were stolen from Van Gaalen's about three years ago. The response was that they are looking into it. Three years later and TADAA! Whether the extra monthly premium is worth it if you already have insurance is another debate altogether. For now, its good news! 9. That is such a good looking frame..
  10. I've got a Prologo Nago on both bikes (Road and MTB), best saddle ever  .
  11. Network Access Message. I can't seem to view the site. Do they have a mobile site for this or a twitter feed that I can follow?
  12. You're right.. the problem is not the packaging, it's their attitude. Why is the minority always screwing things up for the rest of us :cursing:
  13. The problem with a 100+km race is that riders won't only throw it 2 or 3km away, but it can be anywhere in between the waterpoints. Runners mostly drink and eat at waterpoints, but those neat take-out-dont-put-back-in pockets on cycling shirts allow riders to throw away gels anywhere over 100km
  14. Geecee, glad you posted this. I saw the same thing while watching, just didn't have the time to post. IMO - litter should equal DQ. They might not be able to apply this to the everyone riding the argus (whatever race), but you can surely make an example of some, especially for the pro's.
  15. Now THIS has caught my attention!! Why does this seem so much more appealing than doing the Epic? I am injured (and broke) at the moment, but this might be a project for 2013. Eldron, can you actually get enough hill training for this in South Africa?
  16. Glad to hear he is ok! Hi-jack on: I was in Cape Town over the weekend and noticed a few things about cycling. Firstly, you oakes have some amazing roads to cycle on, There are a number of wide roads with a decent shoulder, and some great climbs to train on. It was good to see lots of cyclists on the roads. I was quite miffed that I didn't have my bike. It seems like the motorists are much friendlier to the cyclists than here in Gauteng, but having said that... You guys really have some crazy, stupid, inconsiderate and oblivious cyclists down there! Obviously this is due to all of the weekend warriors getting some last minute two week training before the argus, but I couldn't believe the number of cyclists cycling from Fishoek to scarborough (is it the M65?). It is such a narrow road with plenty of blind corners, and cyclists all over the place. Most of these cyclist had zero bike handling skills, and simply would not move out of the way, even riding three abreast.. Every year there are hundreds of complaints about the cyclists in the Cradle of Human kind, but even we are no match for the chaos that I witnessed there! From what I saw, I am VERY amazed to hear that there was only one cyclist knocked down over the weekend. It is refreshing to see motorists who are more considerate towards the cyclists, but you guys need to insure that it stays that way!! Hi-jack/Rant off.
  17. Eddie, the last couple of years it's been on the first Saturday of June (4th, 5th or 6th). I guess it will be the 2nd this year
  18. Littering on the bike is just unacceptable. And the same goes for people throwing cigarette butts out of their window whilst driving It might not be cycling related, but it makes my blood boil (more than anything else)! If you want to smoke that is your problem, but what gives you the right to use the environment as a trash can?
  19. I am glad to hear that you will be able to ride... I just got admitted to hospital, so that means that my 94 is definitely down the drain. . Would have been my tenth one, and the first starting in A. Nothing like the hub to kill the time in hospital though. Thank goodness for the 348 pages on a certain thread.!
  20. Also in AL. It should be racetec, since this race is a 94 and Argus qualifyer
  21. My training partner lost her heart rate monitor watch today at the cradle. She forgot her watch on her car and only realized 5 minutes later what she had done. When she went back to the parking area her watch was already gone. Her car was parked on the grass parking closest to reception. It is a red F11 Polar watch. Please PM me if anyone picks up a watch tomorrow.
  22. My Bad, Thanks for the info, I'm really looking forward to this!
  23. I am going to Clarens for a weekend, at the end of June. It seems like such a brilliant place to do a couple of training rides, and I don't want to miss out on some last minute training before the Jock. Does anyone know whether the roads are safe to cycle? I would love to ride through the golden gate national park to sterkfontein dam , but I remember the roads being winding and narrow. Has anyone ever done some riding on those roads? Are there any dirt roads ( or even better trails ) in the area. The government (lady) will be going with, so I don't want to drive out to do some riding, but want to sneak in a two or three hour ride.
  24. Thanks for the tip, will definitely follow up!
  25. I want to put some bling on my bike, and I'm looking for MOST brakes and handlebar, but I cant seem to find anyone that sells them. Not even CWC or CRC? Is there a reason that no stocks them?
