  1. 2nd place also coming in hot...
  2. yep i dropped down two groups as well. what has happened?
  3. the penalty shows up on the MTB seeding and not on the Road seeding. any how, best to contact Janine at Racetec, she is the most helpful: Janine de Vries Race Office Assistant RaceTec Event Technology (PTY) LTD. RSA Tel: 087 820 7223
  4. there's some fallen trees across the lower section of the Ribbok ST and also a branch that is dangling across the trail as you exit Geelslang and head towards Ribbok. Be careful out there!
  5. off topic... but this cooling down thing happened to me at the Knysna MTB on the weekend. My riding partner and I stopped to help out someone who had a puncture. It took us 20 minutes to get moving again and when we hit the next climb it felt horrible.
  6. I haven't really had the calibration go off by that much. Maybe 5 to 10 watts. I use my powertap pedals for the power output and the kickr as the "controllable trainer". the powertap pedals get a zero offset done before every ride.
  7. what does this mean?
  8. I emailed and asked the same and got the event flyer sent back to me... so, I guess I'll just have to ride and find out.
  9. the most complaints about water seem to be from the people doing the 50km ride... I did it last year and I never stopped at any water tables. I wasn't even going that fast. just wear a camelbak/hydration pack, no probs.
  10. my race didn't start out well, I really huffed and puffed up the first climb, but once it was over I just got back to the plan of riding at my own pace and chilling at the water points. yeah, you can get a hardtail like rouxenator, or just get a camelbak/hydration pack. i only needed to top up the ice on the day. the kwha ttu waterpoint was probably the best one of the day. some dirt roadies looked at me in horror as i rode down the stairs. Just before heading to the kwha ttu loop, I went a bit wide on a turn trying to pass someone and there I picked up about ten thorns. one of the holes didn't want to seal up in the ride so I pulled off and gave it a few slow spins until the hissing stopped. got it pumped up at the waterpoint and life was good again. then some hammie cramps hit and I just rode it out on several occasions. found several riders to draft on the flatter sections and in the last ten km I had a guy try to drop me several times. I just hung on until I couldn't anymore, but to my surprise he burnt himself out trying to drop me finished within my target time of 5:30, so I was quite happy
  11. talk about seeding... the guy at my LBS always has a gripe with seeding. I told him to just ride and stop worrying about that sh.. he called any way to get re-seeded. it wasn't as if he was doing the long route any way.
  12. the indemnity form was a waste of my time at the registration. pretty sure i ticked a box when I entered the race. why the extra step???
  13. Mamil, you have the coolest race number I'll be starting in the group behind you, maybe i'll see you along the way
  14. are you doing the long route... on the checkpoint?
  15. tee hee, there's a "smash yourself to bits way so the final km feel like death"... i'm really not up for that. just going to pace it lekker and stop at every damn watering hole.
  16. i'm in for the 78km. just aiming to finish as I'm not used to the longer type MTB events.
  17. checked mine too after 4500 km/2 years/300 hours of mostly trail riding (>90%), almost no wear. guy at my lbs likes to speak in km, but he rides a lot on the road with his mtb as well. i believe a mtb should be used on the trails for most of it's life.
  18. 8/9/10 speed, same spacer
  19. in the past week there has been a bike jacking and a stone throwing incident on the trail. seems like it's some kids up to serious mischief.
  20. you really do seem like a statistician. so... do i divide my 2019 time by this -> (0.8556952984 x 2019 race time + 0.9321198196)... or is it only the bit in brackets?
  21. don't think that we get inflated seeding, it's just that the beta algorithm is so hard to predict. i had a torrid time at the 99er (not a PPA event) and a great race at TdPPA, but my seeding for the two races is exactly the same. aim of the game is just do more races.
  22. ah well, maybe it's the cycling gods telling me that i'm not ready to be upgraded yet. It was my first start in F in a while (I normally hang about in G) and this time I managed to hang on while my legs were warming up. The plan was to help out with the pacing after 75km when I'm properly warmed up. When the pace dropped at 65km, I had some dissonance which I managed to fight until 70km. It was almost a deja vu of the Durbie Dash when we hit Malmesbury road... somehow I dropped the group, but it was too far to go alone so I dropped back and tried not to push the pace so hard. Got 9 riders to go with me down Adderley and leave the group behind and we crossed the line together. Was a great day out, so relieved to have no mechanicals. PS - Mamil, did you drop your bottle on Vryguns? The rider next to me couldn't avoid a dropped bottle and rode right over it and just shook his head afterwards, I think he was too relieved to utter anything.
  23. and i thought i got a good result today my seeding stays unchanged then.
  24. I found the lack of attendance odd as this is the first "Premier Seeding Event" to see a decline. The Sportifs have been pretty well attended, on the other hand.
  25. probably next week tuesday i reckon, as the entries are closing tonight.
