i would have thought that garmin would have thought about this...Im sure many ppl have this issue. After all, it could apply to all sport types that may have more than 1 format.. eg trail running vs road running.
btw...will i have the same issue if i purchase a 520 and try to use it on two bikes (road and Mtb)? ie it will record under one "bike" profile, or will I be able to specify upfront the format/bike ?
Hello all,
I have a Garmin Fenix 3 HR that I use for both road an MTB formats.
Is there a possibility that I can select the Bike/format upfront when I start the activity as opposed to editing the activity on the Garmin app after saving.
The primary reason for this is that:
1. I forget to edit the activity and change the gear to the respective bike used.
2. Strava always beats me in the activity syncing and pulls through the incorrect bike/format....btw this is my biggest gripe
I was able to change the display name on the Garmin activity, but this is just superficial and even with more than one display name, it logs the activity under the generic "bike" profile.
Kind regards
Hey ChrisF,
I had the same issue with both a 20" and 24". They tend to get a little sticky and you are absolutely correct that they work well with index and thumb, but not when you grip the handle simultaneously.
My one got blisters every time we went to the bike park and eventually he was put off riding completely.
Went to my LSB and got him the rapid shift and they work like a dream for him. Needless to say he is back on the bike.
Now if only I can get rid of that 3x in the front .
My advice is to go for it.....definitely worth it.
I used them last month and had no issues. Money took two days to clear because of different banks, which is normal.
I was satisfied with the valuation and transaction.
My experience on the link below.

I looked at the KTM as well but our fellow hubbers quickly put me on the right track. I am really happy with the final selection.

Hey guys,
Just some feedback....so I pulled the trigger on the spec epic comp and must say Im really impressed and glad I made the choice. What a difference from my hardtail- it oozes confidence and Im much faster on it. Love the fact that I can turn so late and it just responds.
The brain is really impressive and its nice to have one less thing to worry about.
The dual water bottles make a huge difference with the SWAT kit as I can now leave the Camelback.
I went with the 32tooth chainring- just as well cos I think the 34 would have been a little too big for me
Weighed the bike and she came in at 13.3kgs fully kitted out and ready for the trails, so not too bad for full aluminium. This is also with the heavier GRIT tyres.
The colour is beautiful, but the matt black does pick up quite a bit of dust.
Thanks again for all the advise and putting me on the right track....appreciate it!
Rgds
Im 81kgs and try to cycle 3 times a week...normally the following:
1 long distance on the road bike (80kms in the cradle)...1000m elevation
1 spin for an hr
1 30km on the mtb....500m elevation
average road speed is around 26 km/h and mtb 16km/h
I prefer lower cadence (around 70)
Hello again,
Quick question: The bike comes std with a 1x11 30t chain ring and 10-42 cassette (Sram). On my old setup I ran a 2x11 xt setup with a 26/36 chain ring and 11-42 cassette (shimano). The bike shop will upgrade the chain ring for me to something bigger if I want it. I am contemplating between the 32 or 34 upfront but am not sure which will be optimal to replicate the old xt 2x11 setup. Below is the online comparison I did.
- Column one is old xt setup....i enjoyed the ratios and sat mainly on the 36 upfront.
- Column two is the sram setup with a 32t chain ring and 10-42 cassette
- Column three is the sram setup with a 34t chain ring and 10-42 cassette
your expert recommendations will be most welcome on whether to go 32 or 34 to replicate the old xt setup in terms of ratio's and associated effort.
thanks for the responses guys...
I saw the Bike Addict Sesta deal and it is definitely the outright winner- if only they were a little closer to JHB. Whilst I do buy online in general, Im not comfortable with a bike purchase (personal preference).
Decided to go with the Spez. Although aluminium it seems like a good deal (extras got thrown in) and will hold some resale later on.
The eagle conversion will happen in a couple of months once the itch starts again
oh and every time i see the bike, I tend to like it more and more
I see it comes with a SRAM XG 1150, 11-speed, 10-42t cassette
Hey guys,
thanks for the feedback...seems like i caused quite a stir with the addition of the stumpy
So I did a little more research today after viewing some of the comments...seems like you'll have put me off the KTM. tried to do some online comparisons and I must say they were very scarce- and the fact that the official website didn't have a category for bicycles was also concerning.
Looked at the Scott RC 900 comp and the Spaz Epic Comp. Both seem like very competent bikes for what Im looking for. I am leaning towards the Epic Comp at this stage- seems like a great bike with good heritage. That said Im sure Nino will be commented about soon
can anyone confirm the following two abt the Spaz Epic:
1. Weight of the alu version (struggled to find it online)
2. It comes with a SRAM 1x11...if I want to go eagle at some stage, would I need to replace the free-body as well.
thanks for the great and entertaining feedback thus far....I really appreciate it.
Hello guys,
Im in the market for a mtb and have considered the following options. All of them are between the 40-45k mark. Budget is important so cannot exceed that.
I have never ridden a dual sus so I am basically going with online reviews in the order of frame (carbon/alu), fork, weight, and then wheels.
Currently I ride a scott scale 940 am am happy with the XC type bike. I do not do "heavy" trail riding.
The three options i have considered thus far are:
1. KTM Scarp Elite (carbon, xt components, fork- Reba 100 mm, Wheels DT Swiss)
2. Spaz Stumpjumper (Alu, dropper, Fork- Reba 150 mm)
3. Momsen Vipa 2 (full carbon, xt components, Fork- SID 100mm)
The KTM seems cool and it is carbon- very well specced. The thing that is putting me off the Spaz is the alu frame, and the vipa 2 seems like a good deal esp with the SID fork.
Whats ur thoughts....btw both the vipa 2 and KTM weighs around 12.4kgs. I weigh around 80kgs.
contact BMC directly and let them know about the service you received from their local representation. Lets measure how they respond to RSA fans.

Hello guys,
I emailed BMC when I heard the news on the HUB. They forwarded the email to Herman. Below is my email to BMC and the subsequent response from Herman.
My email: I own a BMC and am in love with the brand ever since I purchased it. I am therefore very disappointed by the recent decision to withdraw your distribution licenses from our local bike stores here in South Africa, Gauteng.
Swiss Cycles has been critical in promotion of the brand in recent years and one of the reasons that I made my way to the brand. I have noticed that abloc is the listed on your site but they webpage is still under construction- very disheartening.
Is your strategy still to push the brand locally in RSA.
A concerned BMC RSA fan.
Response: Thank you for your enquiry.
Hello guys,
I have a fill Shimano XT groupset and crank (2x) at the moment (11 speed M8000).
My rear derailer took a knock and the shifting on the cassette is now sometimes erratic. Long story short- looks like I now need to replace it.
Could i purchase a 1X groupset (SHIMANO XT M8000 11SP UPGRADE KIT 11/46)
and keep the existing crank (just remove the small chainring)?
Thanks.

hi guys....it it safe there
its down the road from me so would love to check it out sometime
okay cool...thanks PregoRoll! hope I don't get the itch to go down that route...it would break the bank
I found it strange that so much effort is put in during design for optimal strength and then to drill a hole straight through didn't make sense
Looks awesome! Enjoy!
I was also considering the Reacto, but then found out that BMC's are on special.
Got myself the Teammachine SLR02 105....its a real beauty. You may want to consider it.
Thanks for the responses guys
The gators are wire bead....which I hear is a mission to remove and put back on the rim, where as the armadillo's are folding.
saddle or seat post for comfort
in The Bike Room

Hello guys,
I find my existing Fizik Arione R7 very uncomfortable and hard after about 1.5 hrs in the saddle- this is on my road bike (BMC Teammachine SLR02). I was contemplating purchasing a Specialised Phenom saddle but see they also have a seat post that will provide comfort.
Which will be a better option for my road bike.
1. Get the Specialized Phenom Saddle (have this on my MTB and quite like it)
or
2. Try out the Specialized CG-R carbon seat post with existing Fizik

Thanks.
