Hahaha, talk about ruining him for good - team him up with the one guy that made riding a Ducati look like an advantage...
  2. I ran the Jonkers Mountain Challenge (trail run) - ended up being my first DNF as a runner. Simply not recovered enough after being in hospital with a tummy bug last week after FireRun, having started that bugger without realising I was ill. Next for me actually a road run - Safari Half in 2 weeks. But first, some rest - I think the body is just starting to complain too much. Time to listen...
  3. Much of it was helped by the safety car. Why they did not deploy it several laps earlier though, I won't understand. Cue a new rule: random safety car deployments at the discretion of Bernie. Other than that - interesting to see nobody really got the softs (yellow) hooked up, but for the Ferrari's and Nico - but maybe his was just a case of not being under any pressure, so cruise and smile.
  4. They must just ehhhrrr... make the start-line, for starters! See the weather may also be interesting over the course of the weekend, so let's see.

...and Aragon. Unreal stat, saw that when they highlighted it last year, and even when he wasn't competitive as the previous years, he still smoked in the States. Weren't those 10 wins not in MotoGP only? AFAIK he's unbeaten there in any class. But will go verify that later.
  6. Just imagine how the British commentators will talk up in anticipation of his "epic drive through the field"... from 6/7th.
  7. In general it would work. But some straps are notorious to temporarily funk out and spike with static, electrical cables or when the batteries are about to die. Then you sit with a max HR of 240... (or whatever)
  8. Haven't even run with my "funky socks" yet... got it for some longer training runs due to my recurring calf niggle. Also - I got the sleeves to be able to wear socks of choice. But funnily enough, those were the exact terms my buddy used when advising me on compression - don't get the Nike or such stuff. I was between CompressSport and the 2XU at the expo and in the end went for CompressSport, purely because the correct size one in 2XU cut into my ankle and Achilles area lightly and I know that will become an issue when running, even if it's hardly noticeable when standing around. Haha, and yes, that was my thoughts exactly! Heck, this is expensive... till I realised that's hardly more than a session or two on the pain bench - and it NEVER ends at just a session or two!

Agree with you Swiss, a LOT of frontend washes, incl the Ianone one at the end. Think everybody but Rossi fell at T1 at some stage over the weekend. The two guys I felt worst for was Vinalez and Redding - to have the 2nd bike go on him after his wheel experiences on Sat... Interesting season ahead. Amazing how Honda turned it around, MM looked very ominous.
  10. Empty track with 4 mins remaining in all sessions vs MotoGP qualifying excitement. Jeez, qualifying used to be more exciting than the race in most instances, now this...
  11. That was an awesome (bedonnerde) read!
  12. How did it go on your side, Andrew? I really enjoyed the route and the vibe. Loved the extremely different terrain than I am used to running on. But was feeling crappy on the day (extremely dizzy and could not focus properly - not ideal for trail running!) and ended up walking most of the downhills and rocky bits. Medics said afterwards walking straight with my ears in the condition they were in (apparently hectic sinus infection) was an accomplishment... Cannot fathom that they did the bit we climbed/mountaineered (no other words for it!) up past Blockhouse downhill in the previous year(s?).
  13. Good luck to all you Ultra manne for the weekend! Hope it goes really well. Tomorrow this time I'm already bleeding through my eyeballs on those uphills... ehhhrr... sorry, having a blast, enjoying the views, smiling all the way and having a beer at a waterpoint... on the trail. Think it's gonna be a toughy (ito elevation and terrain, not distance), but let's do this! Really looking forward to it!
  14. Can't remember my exact words, but I predicted exactly this for qualifying. Fortunately, it seems that they've already unanimously (there's a new word for F1!) agreed to scrap it and revert to the old qualifying system as of next race.
  15. ...and on a lighter note, with not much action in a wet FP1. There is only one! Nuff said!
  16. Two things: Firstly, I only started running less than 2y ago. So it's all fresh to me... and I was doing it to supplement W2W training, so getting injured was NOT an option. Take it really slowly, increase mileage very very gently. Incredibly, I think it took me about alomost 2 months to get to 5k's! From there it got better pretty quickly. Then secondly, on the age topic. I ran my first marathon last year, aged 45. So that may also have been why I was so slow in "transitioning" (them ole bones ain't been running for a long time! ) into running... But for me performance is a side issue. I still am more of a mtb'er than a runner... I think! Yes, I recently entered for my second - along with a haul of trail runs this year.
  17. That's where multiple personalities comes in handy... all can chat, argue, sing (some better than others) and tell jokes to each other all day long. Ehhrr... I've heard. You know, a friend told me. Ja, very little beats a nice solo run...
  18. Swiss, when requiring bravery to enter, just take a hint from Andrew's current avatar...
  19. Where do you link the TomTom (or SUUNTO) devices? Only thing I can see there in order to accomplish this is MapmyFitness, but that is also supposed to be decommisioned...(?)
  20. Even if there's no exceptions (and I know there is...) I would seriously doubt whether any of the Vitality bean counters that came up with this decision have an idea of the effort required to maintain above 80% of max HR... So what's Vitality's message? (And I say this tongue in cheek...) All cool boys n girls, just time-trial the streets and for goodness sake don't stop at red lights and stop streets in fear of your HR dropping below 80%?! Climb for an hour but start a new activity when you crest and start descending?
  21. Yes, only in Bernie's Lalaland will it be a good idea to completely change the engine formula - and implement an engine development freeze in the same year. In the name of budgets and making it affordable for smaller teams. Oh wait... he also forgot that the minnows use freakin customer engines! *Facepalm* It's not as if Manor ever developed their own engines...
  22. Ai manne, I have just entered my second marathon (sprint race for you okes) - the CT Marathon in Sept. Will mean a bit of a cold and dark winter for me... And if I'm there, I may as well maintain and try to go for Oceans Ultra next year. Doing trail run this year, but doubt whether the cost will entice me to do it again in 17. That's the plans... See some of you guys are starting to rack up some serious mileage, niiice!
  23. IMHO: Will only have a realistic effect in wet or (esp) drying session. Otherwise guys will go out, get their banker lap in before the first cut-off... and wait for the next session. And ja sure, it may catch somebody out that made a mistake on their initial outing, guys having some work on the car done to get it ready for quali now has a couple of minutes less to ensure they post a time, etc. But those should be the exception. In my mind it will actually take away from the excitement of that end-of-quali-period last-gasp runs to see who drops out. You may end up seeing only two or three cars out at the end of Q1, since the rest are confident that they're not going to be caught by only that one guy that still has to drop out. What it miiight do, is screw up some carefully planned race tyre strategies, with some guys maybe being forced to use a set more at times (I'm thinking esp towards end of Q2). In the same vein, it may back-fire with guys saying "Hey, I'm happy with Px and it's more beneficial to sit out and save tyres for the race." Again - there's nothing wrong with qualifying - it's mostly more fun to watch than the race. Why mess around with it? And back to my rant of yesterday - now that everybody is getting settled in the new rules, 3 years down the line and hopefully some teams are catching up... next year is again going to be a major rule change and most likely one team will get the jump on everybody. Same as when this new set of rules came about - just after we had a competitive season!
  24. Maybe that's why they gave it to Jody to drive... (And only for one season!)
  25. If they didn't make the rubbish rules to start with, they would not have needed additional even worse rules to try and rectify it. (Keeping that sentence "clean" took a LOT of restraint and retyping!) As soon as something is innovated, it gets banned or rule-bombed to death. Call me old-fashioned... Point the guys to the track, let them innovate the sheet out of it, let them race. That's what the game used to be, right? That's also why the cars look alike. Well, worsened by the fact that most seems hellbent on making it black, grey or silver... Gone are the days where you could paint cars the same colour and immediately recognise the T1 from the 72, the M23 from the T2 or P34, the Lotus 79 from the T4, the FW07 from the RE20 and th BT50 - and so on! Overtaking is not the issue - it's constant interference! And changing the rules every time in the name of leveling the financial gap - rubbish! It just worsens it if the bottom teams now ALSO have to redevelop from scratch.
