    Formula 1...

Firstly F1... they call that a penalty?! They penalise guys more for returning to the pits in quali sessions. Then, Le Mans (sorry, no other thread for this): what an epic race! Hate to have been a team manager - and was sooo peeved when the Astons got their gamble wrong under the last safety car. Close battle until then! Tom Kristensen, what a legend - 9 Le Mans wins. Great seeing him and Jackie Ickx together. Awesome comeback for Ant Davidson to ride that car into 2nd place, only a lap down after last year. Sadly, all overshadowed by the early crash and subsequent loss of Allan Simonsen.
  2. With duringd on this one. Local advertising could improve. If it wasn't for Hubville I would not have known about this ride in my own town. My wife, who also works in town did not know about it until I said we should not exit that side of town. Had something on so could not do the ride, went for early jol on the mtb. Was surprised to see the finish so low on the climb - but presume that was for logistical reasons. Awesome day for a ride, hope this becomes annual.

Apparently some form of two-day tyre test is scheduled shortly. Presumably for everybody. Remember reading about it, can't remember the detail, though...

Apparently... now the teams can't agree on the new tyres - and rain in Canada on Friday did limit testing. Now Pirelli can't introduce the new tyres at Silverstone. I won't be surprised if Pirelli really says "stuff it" soon. Check this for tyre wear! Perez after Spain: http://en.espnf1.com/PICTURES/CMS/18500/18507.jpg
  5. Ouboet Nugget... And then came trouble in paradise. <If this all worked, I'll add more later! - thanks for the help, Swiss!>
  6. Okay, somebody tell this dumbazz how to upload pictures from your pc direct? Image option is just URL? Otherwise I'd have posted some snappies.
  7. Cadenceblur - no worries there. Even I could do it last year! And I am on the shortlist for becoming the dirtroadie club mascot! One section where you'll simply have to wait and walk. Rideable, I thought... A little bit of singletrack through a bos and the just single-file at the end next to the river. Rest is open. Then again, it is easier if you go as slow as I do!
  8. Thanks, will check it out... Been starting to play with the idea of HDR, but never got around to actually taking the shots!
  9. Dangle, what software do you use for the HDR? Seriously nice shots!
  10. ...the one that fits your head best! Plenty don't fit mine.
You may approve.
Ander ding wat ek like is nougat - mens kry dit mos deesdae in 'n kleiner sweatie version ook, individually wrapped and all.
  14. Biokinetisist or sports doc will help you best. By bursitis came about due to a glute and some other muscle which was stiff, also pulling the ITB into the picture. There are many muscles in the area, so go and find out exactly which ones are causing the trouble and sort out the root cause.

He absolutely kicked butt - emphatically. Alonso did well to get up to second, really great drive that! Not to throw away Bottas in qualifying and Vergne dragging a TR up to 6th. And Di Resta for coming through from 17th could have received some more TV coverage. In fact, both Force India's looked good... Shocking to hear of the passing of the marshall, that is really bad.
  16. The only reason I'll possibly get a duallie is for the freakin sinkplaat. And I'm saying from the apparent shady side of the wall.
  17. SwissVan - age-based HR thingies just don't work for me. Unless he's got an exception list. If you look at the good old 220- or 217-formula, their max means I'd hear harp music every time I come out of my (real) Karvonen zone 3. You should've seen me go pale the first time I wore a HR monitor, obviously with the 220 formula values in my head - thought I was having a heart attack or something! Had a friend test it out immediately to see whether the bloody thing works.
  18. ...and then there are us with naturally high HR's. If I follow that, I will only be allowed riding downhill - and by that I don't mean Minnaar-style!
O wag... dis ekke... Ek sal 'n stok in die speke steek! Was goed beswaard toe ek hiervan hoor, sal ogie oophou.
  20. Secondskinz - I have a jacket from a different manufacturer with a pocket - and love it for that reason! Has a flap over the zip, all lekker waterproof. No lifiting up and fiddling under the jacket, plus returning something to the normal cycling jersey pocket again under the jacket is sometimes even more of a mission... Now it's just find flap, zip, take out, munch, put back, zip closed... Just a thought...

Nope, for it to be called cheating, you have to be the one interpreting it "better". It's called cheating only if you've done that, somebody else spots it, alerts the law-makers and the law-makers then abide by them, and not you. Otherwise it's spotting a loop-hole and clever engineering. Cue double diffusers, slightly different barge boards.... the list is endless! That said, I think these rules are rubbish and they should be allowed to go and build the fastest car within safety params. That's what it used to be about. Fast car, fast driver, risk and reward. Now there's grid penalties being handed out for absurd reasons.

I think the term "interpretation of the law" springs to mind...

On the TC topic, it's amazing how these guys can actually ride these cars without TC! I am not sure as to the exact figure, but I think it was either 3 or 5 mm of travel... that IT on the F1 throttle (that figure is from the late 90's, not sure what it is now - and it was on Schumacher's car, but presuming it's the same for everyone). You play with a car weighing next to nothing and all that power, at times in the wet... with that amount of throttle play. As for the Benetton TC saga - it was investigated and they could find no proof. They did find the whole filter on the refueling rig trick, though. 94...? Sorry, that will only be remembered for one thing. Sadly all the controversy (some rather ridiculous) and Schumacher's first championship pales to the events of Imola.
  24. In short... NO! But that's just my opinion. If it rains or it's misty, I want all the bells, whistles, lights and high-viz I can get. Even on an mtb... forced to ride small sections of tar.

Hey, but then you should be happy.... as far as I know, TC has been banned for a good couple of years. Still remember Massa loosing it on the exit of the T1 complex in Aus, first race after TC ban. Wasn't that the start of the new uniform EMS "black box" - because the teams were starting to "suspect" each others' semi-auto boxes and how that relates to TC. Anyways, that's how I have it - may have missed a reverse change in the meanwhile! But I expect that's why you now have guys with less optimal starts, spinning it up a bit (Kimi this year a couple of times, Webber bogging down numerous times this year and esp last...), etc. Yeah, the BAR006 was a good car, the 007 was not too bad... but not on the same level, but in same season Renault won with Alonso, which made it a bit political for Honda, saying they can do a better job with the chassis and bought out BAR. And then Honda came in fully and took over... and I feel, ruined the project. They should've stuck to the engine side, which they did well. (BTW, this was not their first forray into F1, but that's besides the point...) Agreed, they had an engine of note and not the expertise on the rest of the dept. And then, irony of all ironies, as they withdrew, sold it and Brawn went on to win the championship with essentially a car they developed! Which, if you want to go even further into ironies... is now Mercedes!
