  1. Ja, it's also the getting up to get there early enough for an 8:30 start. Ouch... But this one is ascending my to-do list at a rapid rate of knots.
  2. If you're gonna try a revere-Santa and sail down my chimney to try and relocate my dog... I'll give you a beer when you get down, you'll need it. We USE our fireplace!
  3. You don't stay in the Cape, do you...?! (yeah-yeah, I know you don't!) Our flowers don't stand still all that often. By "macro mode" I meant the flower on the dial. Yes, even worse than semi-auto focus, I know... Just played around and wanted to get the hang of some stuff. Will try some more DoF next time (in manual!) Great shots! Love that spidey, looks like it just want to say "Howzit".
  4. To answer some questions. It's a macro lens in the sence that it's Canons 100mm fixed which does macros. (Or is it vice versa?) Aaanyways... And ja, just put it on the camera's macro function as well. Yes, I did not get in real close, but for the yellow flower. Also took some shots of a springkaan (grasshopper?) but nothing came out as I hoped. May post one tonight for sheets and giggles. It was semi-manual focus... auto-focus and held/moved/recomposed. But freakin heck, you don't even breath... the blood flowing through your fingertips moved the focus point! It is SHALLOW... You'll obviously see (and I am aware of it and trief different points for effect) stuff like the flower being in focus but on others I preferred the detail parts to be in focus and the flower the background. Yes, I am guilty, I played around with the lens after I got it a while ago and not enough practise. Also, I'm not sure if it's actually a bee. Think it was more a smallish "tor" that looks a lot like a bee, esp on a photo. Otherwise it was a big bee! But we treated it as not being one - don't tell my girl if it actually was a bee... Carbon, that bee-shot of yours is kick-azz! Two thumbs up! Then - same goes for the rest of those shots - really like it.
  5. Hmmm, you may be talking of two different dogs, in my mind both of them are steal-able! (Eye of the beer holder and all that...) But you've got to get past some serious licking on behalf of Nugget first! And then there's my daughter... don't try and get between a 7 y/o and her dog! Location...? That'll be either on HER chair (if you're talking Kahlua) or in front of the fireplace. (With their guard-human close in tow...)
  6. Thanks Tumbles and htone. Time flies. Hard to believe she's turning one in a month... Even harder to believe Nugget is a couple of months from turning 8 already! Feels like... just yesterday we got him. Tumbles, bring that namesake of yours - the lot of them will have a ball in the park around the corner! (I'm not paying any transport costs!)
  7. Sommmmething in trouble... in 3...2....1...
  8. "Sir" Nugget... You ARE kiddng me, riiight?
  9. Played around with the 1st one a bit... ...and another Red:
  10. Buggering around with the macro yesterday... Mello(?) yello One happy ant: Close to a nice shot. Better... ...and somehow all but the last was resized in the upload tool again. Close to trying the other solution using flikr and the link.
  11. Already depressed that I'm not there to take a couple of snappies, bugger the riding. Now more enticement. Enjoy it!!
  12. Spot-on Wannabe, I think the latter could be what makes this hard or not. If our friend pitches up for a visit on the day... afkraaking will be in the order of the day on that return leg! (O/T: Hoekom is jou "Province" Gauteng?!)
  13. Gummi, it takes the shot to begin with... and that's a niiiice one! And Dangle's edit did it justice. Well done on both counts!
  14. Ride your bike as you want, when you want, where you want. Just enjoy it. Anybody giving me lip about riding on tar with my (dirty non-S-Works) mtb, returning from trails/dirt roads/whatever... Well, I'm out riding and enjoying it, you're just spoiling your own moment.
  15. Not even a year... and already trying to look the "mother figure"!
  16. Another test. Apparently I have a thing for dead trees/branches? Okay, now whaaaat theee... This time, same strategy for resize as over the w/e. And the files size is unchanged (?) Whaaateva... Maybe I need a glass of red!
  17. Same question occurred to me, Gummi! Cycling with his DSLR?! Or is that a secret weapon? Had another "miss-my-camera" moment this weekend. Came around a corner and glimpsed up... Taalmonument lit by some sun peeking through the clouds, a hint of a rainbow behind it and set off against theee darkest cloud. It was jaw-dropping. 30 sec's max and the clouds closed the gap, sun and that super-highlighted/-contrasted Taalpaal with it... Just the perfect moment. At least I was on the bike and there to see it! It's one of those images that just will stick with you.
  18. By using oil (and not wax)... That puts me on mr Borman's christmas card list, I presume. No worries, I know the way out the door...

I think the original thread went with the Hub meltdown? Wow... best race in a while! Awesome stuff... Marc Marquez you beauty! And a nice comeback from Rossi in the latter laps. Some great battles and overtaking, the art of which one mr Hayden needs to re-acquire...
  20. Okay, trying something new here, more to try and get a handle on the resizing than anything else... Hmm, again size differs between the upload and the explorer value. But IQ looks a bit better, I think?
  21. The 2-legged servants think of everything... Yes, that's our table outside she's using as a tan bed.
  22. Okay so... how do I upload pics like Wyat's? My upload has somehow shrunk in size and the definition looks horrible compared to what was uploaded directly above. Or... what resizing tool do you use? Because my Elements went a bit cock-eyed last night and at times simply did not want to resize the image. Maybe I screwed it up there somewhere. But point remain, a 600 or 700 K file ended up 98K after this upload. Then, trying to save it larger and upload it, I got an error saying file too big. I tried via "more reply options" --> "Attach file", just for the record.
  23. Okay, I'll have to do more than blabber and start contributing, I presume. Don't be too harsh... Pic I took earlier the year. Hmmm okay, how did this file shrink down to below 100K on the upload tool?! Anyhow, seems this will be a sample of the pic I tried to upload. Seems I need help there too...
  24. A pic of the lady, all serious... after just sniffing the grass!
