  1. Yeah...? And to throw a spanner in the spokes for all the "replace it after x years"/"poly fatigue" punters: what about the time it's just been lying on the shelf since manufacturing?
  2. Dude, I know EXACTLY where and what Eliminator is. I rode it often in summer - and then only once after winter started poroperly. Being new to mtb'ing, that was when I decided I value my time on bike and want to enjoy it, not fear it! I'll ride it when it's dry again - and for me that's enough of a challenge! (Jip, nog 'n banggat!) There's a path called Marathon loop, if I have it correctly, which is also rather green... It's the one joining the road up to the tower and the middle one (BMW). Great to ride, awesome views, but a lot of shady places, where the green stuff flurished last time I went there. Found myself spinning whilst going uphill - which is quite and accomplishment for me! I haven't been there in a while due to a combination of illness, subsequent unfitness and of late my road friends calling. But I can't imagine it being any less green now. Ride that - it's much more enjoyable! More undulations, more options, etc.
  3. Agree with what has been said - bugger the advertising and go for fit. I love most things Specialized, yet their helmets don't fit me, Giro did not feel nice and even my old Delerium (contrary to above!) felt like church shoes when I tried on a Bell Sweep. Found my "slippers" and went for it.
  4. If you start seeing a bright light and hear harp music, ease up a bit (but not oo much!) More seriously, you can go on for ages in that range top zone 3, bottom zone 4. And redline it inbetween when you need to. But tbh, I hardly ever look at HR (except when climbing) during a race. Clinging on to the group is all that counts if you're looking for a time.
  5. And just to contradict this - my butt hates a Specialized saddle. Yip, been Asso-metered... feels like I'm grating glass! It is a very personal choice - hope you can get some saddles to test - most good LBS's should at least have some available.
  6. Heck no, not "an event" - won't even think about coffee before a race/funride! Just talking about waking up on a Sat morning and having a coffee before heading out on a training ride! And I do take a coffee in the morning, rest of the day rooibos, btw...
  7. Right place to ask a similar question, I presume... How about having some coffee with sugar before a ride with 32GI? Or is that sugar negligible?
  8. Aaah, Robin Auld! B) Heloise, watchit - die bloed-polisie is nou op jou voorstoep!
  9. Sporttracks (from zone 5 software)
  10. It will most likely be in your registry... Just find and update it there. Make sure it's the right entry - and to be safe backup the registry (or at least that entry) if you're unsure.
  11. You can always drop into a LBS and fit them. But they bend/are adjustable on so many places, it's almost impossible not to get them to fit properly...
  12. I love them. Also have a pair of Oakleys and swap to them only in one condition - if it's quite thick mist or rainy. For me, the Rudy's seem to attract moisture - or am I the only one with that issue? Apart from that, the most comfortable frame, great lens, you don't notice it changing colour. I have light-sensitive eyes and never felt it to be too light. Luv it! But ja, I drive with other sunglasses after my first ride back from a race, realising I may as well not have had anything on (with the lack of UV activation a) behind the windscreen and B) in the shade of the car...
  13. Phillip, that's the way I mount it to my bike as well - without the strap, though. Just "unroll" it and hang it below the TT. My issue with that is the fact that the battery is then "open" - since it the flap unrolled that far that the puch does not close on the top any more. Of course, water-resistance does come to mind. "Fortunately" it's been a dry winter in the cape, so my fears have not realised! For a wet ride, I'll just put it in an extra platic bag as well.
  14. Is that available seperately from retailers - since I obviously already have the rest?

    Garmin 705

Yeah, I agree, stay the heck away with all your might from 3.2 firmware. Having some funnies in elevation is way better than not having your ride recorded at all (as was the case with me). Other issues included speed spikes (again), spontanious auto-pause (when moving - maybe related to losing sattelite signal) and a couple of other small ones. Personal favourite, which I fortunately missed out on - spantanious bricking of device. It simply does not turn on any more! I went back to 3.1 initially and then my 3.1 elevation funnies re-occured and also went back to 2.9. And I'll remain there untill I read good reports of some FW level post-3.2

    Garmin 705

    Different firmware levels?
  17. You've not maybe reached your max fitness points of 15 000 on Vitality?
  18. Rolled back my latest FW after the flippen ride did not even record. Apart from that I am very happy and enjoy the 705.
  19. Despite the elevation crazyness I had on 3.10, I downgraded to 3.10. I had one successful ride on 3.20, Saturday had a ride not even recorded. Weird grade and elevation is better than no data to look back on. Garmin forums are also so full of complaints about this FW level that I don't know how they could release it. There's even one post dedicated to one guy "bragging" about successful rides he's had on this level. Crazy... this is not how it should be.
  20. Miss the feature where all new posts had a different icon to those that were already created when last you checked.
  21. +1
  22. MagicLight aquired, fitting the battery I was faced with a bit of a problem. The battery is secured by means of a velcro strap over some part of your bike - the battery then resides in a little pouch. The suggestion is for it to go under the stem, but already have my Garmin there. My bike (Merida 96) has a big square toptube. So it ends up that the pouch is fully open. Plus the best way to secure it is actually on top of the TT, which obviously is flat. (Thus avoiding the shock release cable running where the battery will be if it hangs.) But mounting it on top will mean the battery itself will clatter against the TT itself the whole time. So the only way I can think of is to let it rest on a little sponge (such as you get with pills). For now, I will leave it below and it actually help up fine for the one ride I've done with it. But surely you've got better suggestions... The battery itself is quite small - about the size of 4 penlights wrapped together. Any ideas?
  23. Personal opinion, having never ridden Scottand owning a Merida 96 hfs 3000... You're missing an option! Go test-ride them - and I think there's a Bicycling ride before you buy sometime soonish in Johburg area somewhere...(?)
  24. To my knowledge the firmware giving elevation and other issues (for me and some others) is the latest 705 firmware - not sure about 500's...
