    Formula 1...

With Hulk's history (of moving to the wrong seat at the wrong time) that would mean the end of RBR. And, more serious, they have a larger than enough talent pool they've invested in to pick from.
  2. Camelbak bladder should fit most other brands. With the soft flasks - I'm lazy. So I just tilt my head down, lift my bottle up (without taking it out) slightly and take a sip... I prefer the snugness at the rear and will on long runs even prefer to fill up. But I know where to find water in my local mountain. But you must do what works for you - there's no right or wrong way and we all have different preferences.
  3. Get a running vest instead of a backpack. No bobbing, you hardly feel it since it's snug and if you go on shorter runs, no bladder and bottle(s) only. I actually cannot recall when last I used a bladder. So no, it makes no (or hardly any) diffs if that's the approach.
  4. Prefer the bridges (though there was one at the end of a climb that was a bit of a nervy approach!) to having to climb over gates that are closed in such a way that I give it one quick look and think... this is going to take longer than going over - without the risk of not closing it properly again. Thanks for the feedback. That looked like such an epic section when we ran it - will still try it on a quiet time.
  5. Johan, the section I was talking about is basically... that climb that takes you from RBK out to the mountain or where you can turn off into singles back down. Towards the top of that you turned right (coming from bottom) after a steepish bit. That section then crossed the climb to go into the "original" black singles. I still saw the "Beware riders crossing" board coming down, but maybe I just missed the correct entrance to that section.
  6. I had a very pleasant surprise (except that I did not plan accordingly!) yesterday when I went for a cruise on the orange. Not at all the farm roads, vineyard block riding with the odd bit of singles inbetween. That was awesome! Quick question though. A good while back we ran then black route and hit a great flowy section right at the top coming back. When coming down from the mountain yesterday, I saw what I thought was that turn-off, but it looked blocked. Is that bit still in existence?
  7. What news did I miss...? Where's Gerda Steyn? I don't see any of the Oceans female podium there, for that matter.
  8. Ronnie, relax about Simon's Town 30... Ran it last year and those last couple of k's are terrible after that long uphill stretch (you then realise why we fly so there in Argus) and down towards SimonsTown... and then the rollers into the wind. If you don't feel terrible there, you've done something wrong - or went for a cruise, which is not the case for a 2:35 on that route! Relax, prep and take CTM as it comes. Go for your goals.
  9. Oh bugger yeah, correct! I actually thought of Oceans... But still, that's also a very nice run! Word of warning - don't be right at the back at the start. There's a section that narrows going up shortly after the start and there's no room to overtake - and shortly thereafter you strike the first single-track.
  10. You won't regret it! I did one a good couple of years ago, went into it ill but still it is an amazing run. One section that "caught" me a bit was a bit of rock you have to go up behind Blockhouse. (I have found through trail running that I have a mild fear of heights - too bad!) But it is a great run and some spectacular views. And esp coming down from up-country, you'll love both the Table Mountain and the Kirstenbosch sections. That is, presuming the route hasn't changed all that much in 5 years.
  11. I know it's flat, but you NEVER say that about a marathon...
  12. At this stage I'm just returning from a repeat calve niggle I picked up slipping in the mountain a while ago. Also got back on the bike a bit for some cross-training, the body is starting to feel the effects of just running. So starting to feel like it's coming back to business, but at this stage just enjoying the darkness! (Though I'm not even going to set an alarm for tomorrow morning with what has been predicted weather-wise for us!)

If it was the bike, then surely his team mate would have been 2nd in the championship...?! Sorry Captain, just had to pull your leg!
  14. This strap should not be as prone to powerline interference as some of the older straps, so I doubt that it could be that - which is one situation where I got such readings in the past. The other was when my battery in my strap was close to going... might be worth checking out?
  15. Jackes, to answer your question - I use 12l Salomon and whether it's a short or long run, it works. Does not bounce and you hardly know it's there. Mate of mine runs with the Aonije vests and swears by them - he's even ditched his Salomon pack in favour of it. So if it was me, I'd go for the 10l pack, given that it's the same version as the one my mate uses. I mean we had a quick run the other day of under 2h and he used his 10l pack, I used my 12l pack, both with just one water bottle, cell phone and keys - and we dropped our lights in there as well when it became light enough. But it's not bulky, so if you want one pack, go for the large one. Just... go for a vest, not a "backpack" like the camelbak's from mtb-style.
  16. Maybe I'm just missing something - well I obviously am - but how does this 2-day ride work? Results of last year only shows one day, the routes for all distances only have one map... do you ride the same route two days in a row or what? At least contemplating this, but with Cape Town Marathon the following week, it may not be the wisest... Edit - sorry, I now see that it's two days covering different distances, not a multi-day event.
  17. I'm also in this situation where I was at a recent workshop with the Greylings and they also belief in polarized training. With most run being laughable slow and then hard interval days. Read the other day a general guideline ito pace is that it should be about... from memory 110-120% of marathon pace. That is scary slow... And Landie also stated that in the beginning you'll have to walk at times, just not to go over that thresholds. So that margin (from a different source) seems to be reasonably correct. I still have to get around to do it. I go slow, but to go that slow just feels wrong. But I might very well give it a shot later in winter and see what gives. At this stage it feels like I'll get too cold by running that slow! Problem is, I also don't do the interval days, though I do have the perfect situation for that. So if I do that, I presume the slow day thereafter will make sense.
  18. Barry, I am tending to agree with Stretch. That's not lack of training or anything to that tune. It sounds very similar to something that has happened to me a couple of times in the past, before finding a very simple cure - for my situation. So maybe just have a check-up and see if there's not a small issue. Or it may simply be something you ate or drank along the way that was off. All the best man, I know how it feels to train for a goal race, then only to lay on the side whilst reversing your nutrition.

    Formula 1...

First race in ages I've watched - since something always happens at Canada. As it turns out, the most boring Canadian GP in living memory, plus then that bull. Think they've lost a lot of viewers last night.
  20. All the best everybody! Hope it goes well - and that you can battle through what comes your way. Have fun!
  21. Excuse my ignorance - but how is more narrow shoes going to solve black toenails?
  22. And if you don't...? Esp since I haven't noticed until one email dropped that they can't give you an envelope on the morning before the race.
  23. Was in bed from Wednesday till Sat morning with illness, so did not even contemplate starting. Having been entered for the duo, one friend of mine that went had one bit of negative feedback - and that was that there was a massive bottleneck on the singletrack of the last leg. Apparently it was the joining of the end of the routes for the duo, long route and 52. So maybe something to be cognisant of for future, that the trail run does take a good while and the timing around the join seems to have been a bit interesting. But for that she enjoyed it immensely!
  24. Also use the 12l Salomon one. Works perfectly. Had a Camelbak before that - and do yourself a favour... the Camelbak was not a running vest, just buy one of those and be done with it. A "normal" running pack just bounces and it's just a whole different ballgame. A friend of mine and his wife runs with the Aonijie. Wide variety of sizes, super designs, comfortable. Pockets on the right places and does not bounce even if you run it empty. He's used his for quite a number of months now through varying runs and really likes it. So much so that he uses that 10l one instead of his 12l Salomon...
