  1. From the little I know, this was the issue. Not nutrition. Muscles reacting to being hammered differently in a race than in training. I was guilty of this when I did more cycling, found the reason, altered training, viola, no more cramps.
  2. Personal opinion, but I love mu Peregrines. Used them since the 5, skipped a couple of numbers. Really suits my foot well, so not even contemplating anything else. The fact that I prefer Saucony as road shoes also helps. 4mm drop (or less) works for me. Running in stuff with higher drop for those shoe eating routine runs - and now starting to get some niggles.
  3. And if you don't want to go up by foot, you can also drive up to the entrance of the reserve, just past the hairpin going up from Franschoek side.
  4. Ja, that's what I meant - it was paramaterised (once they started increasing head sizes), not banned.
  5. I think you run more than most people ride...
  6. I commented on a friend's FB page as well, when he shared the article, that it's ludicrous. Added the comment that nobody plays tennis and squash with wooden rackets any more.
  7. Oh bugger man, good luck with that! I have a friend who is an awesome runner and she's got peroneal problems every now and then. Be patient and heal up well!
  8. Very rough and not at all ready. It is a highly generalized thing, whereas true HR Max is as said numerous times above, very individual. Case in point - I ran a trail run on Monday with an average (not max!) HR of 179. Max was 198. I am quite a bit over the 22 years that that would imply according to the generalized . In fact, I'm just 15 years younger than you. It is what it is - my HR Max is, was and will continue to be high. Rate of recovery is a good measure of base fitness. Or lack thereof - even if fit - often indicates that you're not recovered, still ill, on antibiotics after-effects, etc.
  9. Hero Night series has an event at Rhebokskloof on the 4th... You're missing first RtV - it is on the 18th.
  10. Jaaaa... I'd like to think so as well. But if you look at how popular and well subscribed something like the Cape Mile was, how did that not attract a new sponsor. Not even wanting to mention XTerra. And both of those failed to get new sponsors and folded, yet have much less logistics than Oceans.
  11. Best bet is to check Dirtopia site and RuntheVines, though I think it's a bit early for RtV to do something. Also check EntryNinja. But that's a very quiet time of year ito races. I think even Bay 2 Bay is later this year.
  12. Oh well, will have to keep running in addition to my TB training... Saw that I got in for Oceans. (Not that I would have stopped!) Looking forward to a lekker hot Dec in the mountain!
  13. Candz, do a factory reset to get rid of all the potential junk on the watch and then load the latest firmware. And even without clutter, it sometimes happens (rarely, but it does) where the battery just drains on one day. Buddy of mine had his fully charge F5 discharge in couple of hours last week. He rebooted it, charged it up again - and now it's fine.
  14. Thanks for the feedback. And ja, my comments was quite similar just yesterday to some made here after an attack in Paarl. If it's meant to be and you're not riding the mountain, a soccer mom texting will likely hit you. But always better to know what the alternate options are... For that reason I'm avoiding the R44 like the plaque - we ride it (by car) every day and the things we see there makes me not want to be on that stretch of road with a bike during commute times. Ironically my biggest concern is my afternoon ride in the daylight - cars and more pedestrians. When I come in, most will be asleep.
  15. Another slight deviation from the main thread. Are there any safe options coming into Stellenbosch nowadays? I was contemplating getting some commutes in over Dec, but both roads I'd most likely use makes me contemplate the wisdom of attempting it. Coming from Paarl, the entry points would be either Helz or R44, with long way round Kayamandi entrance being a "Are you nuts?"-zone for many a year. This will be with MTB, so viable offroad options are doable.
  16. To further baffle me - they now had the one vest I was looking at in stock in a size that should fit me. Not the colour I'd prefer, but apparently they do not come in pink.
  17. Haaaahahaha! Darn, you guys caught me... Except that vaporfly don't go with a Salomon cap. Stretch, I thought more of your fashion sense.
  18. Darn, everything I'm looking at, even the pink cap for my daughter is sold out...
  19. Ja, weirdly saw a buddy got an entry and asked if the half entries have been drawn yet. He said he got an entry for the full... I think he has to start doing some running training. He has done 0 Oceans, don't think he's ever even done a marathon and to my knowledge not an ASA member - more into cross-fit, etc. That's why I assumed he tried for the half. So how he got picked with supposedly only a draw for 7+ finishers, I am absolutely stumped. Haven't heard anything, but not all that fussed. Would like to do it, but if not, then I can ride and run ALL Easter weekend! Or maybe do the trail, but see that is "under review".
  20. Agreed - Cape Town marathon all the way. Nice flat route, plus a great vibe that will carry her! And with the current layout, the dull bit (for me) is behind you early - and downhill. Coming up that bit from Newlands at the end of the run as it was a couple of years ago... man, that was a joy killer of note. Until you hit the gardens! Then the smile was back...
  21. The only thing I do not like about these is the fact that there's no "back" button. Unless a firmware upgrade which I haven't applied changed that. You can skip a song, but you can't re-listen.

    Formula 1...

"Cheating" is part of the game. They are all trying to find a way to interpret the rules differently and find a loophole. Some clever interpretation of the rules are deemed to stretch it too far and ruled out, others are the next big thing. Read double diffusers, "legal" only for one season, front wings flexing in a another way than was strictly deemed illegal, rear wings being influenced by speed, programmable brake bias (to name a very recent one!), double chassis, six wheels, aerodynamic advantageous suspension, barge board designed with a double (sided) lip... shall I go on? Problem nowadays is the moan-and-bitch culture. Nobody ran to the stewards when Renault pitched up with the first turbo. Likewise when Lotus introduced the first side skirts or when Ferrari chose to run more thirsty V12 when everybody was preferring V8's and 10's... As I type, I am starting to realise more and more why I'm following F1 only with dim interest these days.
  23. Ja, in as well. Carpet, nice to see you raised you've living standards from the floor...(?)
  24. At least I will know well in advanced whether I need to renew my ASA license, since this is all I need it for... But fortunately I don't have up-country logistics and all to sort out. And I've done it a couple of times, so... if not drawn, I have a relaxed Easter, running and riding in the mountains.
