  1. Call me stupid, but it's not as if you can seriously expect a refund... You've entered with the T&C's known. What's the odds of it being cancelled anyways. It is a huge show to get on the road, and as was rightly said, loads of expenses have already been incurred. And really, it's not as if anybody from numerous other cancelled events will get refunded. I mean, compared to Epic entry fee or flights for a MotoGP or F1 race that will not happen... None of us got refunded for 2017 Argus, so why should anybody think this should be different? At least you're not in the starting pens when the cancellation happens!
  2. Daft question... but... is anybody actually still going to gym? And how will the current status affect (or be reflected) ito the VA gym membership benefits? Or does one simply have to go and maintain the 36, even if just swiping and walking out?
  3. I had such a laugh now - just have to share. For various reasons I had to go and fetch my daughter today, take her to some appointments, etc. We sit chatting about this virus and I ask her - so how's it affecting you guys at school. Other than extended holidays, of course. (Background - she's in an all-girls school...) So she says... well, apparently we now have to catch up work via Google classroom - that's just not holiday! I really cannot fault her logic there. And then being the positive one she is continues into... So we know and have been told the hug thing is a bit of a no-no. So now most of them do the "elbow pump". And then... (That's my girl!) she and her buddy worked out this really freaking cool "foot shake"! As a greeting, she even taught me it. Unreal - they just don't let anything phase them and find a solution! Ja well, it's a bit off the running topic. So I called Oceans right, who knows what may happen in the time to Comrades. I honestly told my wife on Friday evening - I'm not running Oceans. There's just no way I can take a sachet and pop it into my mouth not knowing where it's been. (I know I'll get slayed for not carrying my own) And I think the moral of the story is - we must be like the kids. They simply roll with the punches. There are some thing money can't replace. I am fortunate to have a beaut of a mountain in my back yard. I expect to use it extensively over the coming few months, both running and riding. We may not have a next target race. So what?! Be ready for one when it comes along. Stay healthy, stay safe, stay active.

    Formula 1...

Bold section was not part of the official statement. So expect it was just bad reporting.
  5. At the rate at which sporting events are being cancelled and postponed, I am honestly not even optimistic for Oceans. Comrades is still a bit down the line, so things may have panned out a bit, one way or the other, by then.
  6. Also did not get one. The only reason I could think of was that I did not measure 109k's. Mine was 108.64... Maybe that was the prerequisite for the badge?
  7. Congrats Andrew! Hope it's a great one!
  8. When I am fully healed, and can run enough again, I also do the vest with soft flask thing - and like Dave we spend most of our runs off the tar.
  9. Respect man! Gave you a little help up the first climb - and can attest to the 80kph descending. I was amazed to see you come flying past me on the descend down to the M3. Well done!
  10. All the best Andrew! Getting answers and moving forward is a big thing.
  11. Aggenee! But I may be staring down the same barrel for Oceans. After 60k's of running entire Feb (I'm lying... 61!) I'm off to a new bio this afternoon. Even if the news is good ito recovery, that's just way too little time on the legs. General fitness is fine due to some MTB, but for Oceans you need that time on the legs as well. Mentally not in a good space.
  12. And that's justabout the only info they actually give.
  13. Have run in Altra, both the Instinct and the Superior. Loved the Instinct, ran them to smithereens, but did not like the Superior all that much - too loose at the heel and the tread wore down really quickly. But agreed, they are hands-down the most comfortable shoes out there.
  14. The latter is much better value for money... it takes a way above average runner to manage that in even under 5 hours!
  15. Meeeee!!! I love them, but it's a very personal thing. I use (for trail) the Peregrine range, have since the P 5. They are not too heavy, nice grip and esp the later versions works well on rock as well. (The 5's had agro tread but was slippery as anything on the smooth granite-type rock - was fine on more "rough" rocks.) Note that there's a 4mm drop on these - most people are used to more. I had one - the first one where they had the more knit-type upper - where the upper itself did not last all that well. But I'm still running in it... Forefoot is nice and wide enough and rear has a comfortable tight fit - not sloppy and not Achilles-hindering. Don't know what more you want to know? But like I said, it's very personal. It will take some convincing to get me to run in any other trail shoe. (Except maybe Altra, but they're too hard to find!)
  16. After almost two weeks of no running, the leg felt good over the weekend. Went for a very gentle little run this morning. Leg felt really good... Halfway through the morning I got up from my chair for coffee. Cursed and sat back down. Long story short... the first appointment I could get at my bio is only Friday. My wife's response - about bloody time you went to see her. Guess it's back to light riding till then...

    Formula 1...

In summary - and this is my interpretation of what was written of what he said... so what he actually said and meant may be vastly different. Very little about what is being accomplished by the device. Very quickly went into whether everybody will have the capability to perform these multiple actions every lap. Fastest way vs the best way... in the light of a very off-the-cuff example. Being - we had f-duct back in the day, where it was the fastest way but we used to drive around with one hand on the steering wheel for half the lap. Now if that's not clever wording for a ban the thing campaign... Because he knows the advantage it will give.

    MotoGP

Paint job only counts that much for me... but I REALLY think the Aprilia looked better in test (lack of) colours than launch colours. Maybe if they left out the garish fluo yellow Aprilia logo over the front winglets it would have been okay?

    Formula 1...

Okay, I've watched it now. Soooo, in my (personal) opinion... it's genius! Firstly, to clarify - it does not alter ride height. It alters toe-in. The objecting comments initially was to altering suspension whilst driving. Still valid. That IS suspension being altered. My first thought when I read through the process was - why the heck did they not jsimply make it a button on the wheel?! Then there was a comment about the alteration of the suspension being "fully mechanical". So that would mean that there's rules prohibiting this being done "by button". Genial interpretation of the bylaws in that case. What was brilliant for me was Seb's very politically worded response. And I won't go into depth about that, because every would have read it most likely. Veeeery clever on his behalf as well. Will be watching with interest. Because in all honesty, if Merc stole the march on this... the (front) tyre war is already won. Like it or not.
  20. Ag nee, Mats... All the best for Monday. In a similar position. Have a calf muscle and knee issue that is aggravated every time I try to run. Have only run once in the last couple of weeks, but can at least ride light gears. That said, I do the MTB bit of a tri tomorrow and hope to start some light trodding around the block again next week. Seriously doubted my Oceans participation, but then got a healthy earful from a friend.

    Formula 1...

SK - sorry, I was not clear... I was talking about aero in my post, not this steering thing. Since I haven't watched it, I don't have opinion on it yet. And yes, we're saying the same. Aero causes a ride height alteration due to it working, not a manually manipulated ride height change.

    Formula 1...

That's because it does not "adjust" it, it alters ride-height by the way it works. And it's the same for all. Not manual adjustment. My view... Still must look at this steering wheel thing over the weekend, did not have time when I saw it this morning - thanks Eskom...
  23. I was about to suggest they ping you for some inside info on what the state of the expo is, at least, from the pov of an exhibitor...

    Formula 1...

Superficially very similar yes. Front wing vanes differ, huge difference in sidepod air intake. Overhead air intake also smaller on RP for some reason, maybe rules required it due to those round thingies - because you'd obviously want to maximize that. Can't even see the rear of the car or the barge board sections.
  25. On a wayyy different topic. I haven't been to school athletics (or any other form thereof) since I was at school. Which is... not quite last year. So those from the area will know the 4M Athletics meeting - for those outside the Windelands, 4 all-girls schools from Paarl and Stellies (Paarl Girls, La Rochelle, Rhenish and Bloemhof) have annual 4M (or 4G, sorry) swimming and athletics meetings. What absolute awesome athletics and spirit! Wow, it was an amazing experience!
