  1. My Saucony comments... those Endorphins looks amazing. But since I am getting more and more out of road, there's no way I'm going to pay that for a shoe. Then rather another set of Freedom's. Peregrines have been my go-to trail shoe since the 5. The only one I was disappointed in ito tearing and holes was the 8. But that had a very funny upper material. And I still have them, and still run short runs in them... and having said they had extra aeration, I got a mild giggle when I saw it's already surpassed 1000k's. Currently on just shy of 400 on Peregrine ISO and absolutely no signs of tearing or anything to complain about. Muddy but feels brand new. Edit: to add - my tears on the P8 were between the logo and the toe protection. Very thin piece of material that has to fold every step between two hard sections. And yeah, that very funny material-like upper simply did not like that.
  2. Ja that's taking the title literally, not bothering to read anything and proclaiming infinite wisdom. Anyways, back to the shoes... just claiming one shoe will work or not is like saying I ride a saddle and it will work for you. Depends on your feet, your running style, your likes and dislikes in shoes. Lots of things... Case in point - I simply could not run in Ghosts. For me the ultimate short distance shoes are Kinvara and/or Freedom from Saucony. (esp the latter...) Also like the Fuelcell Impulse from NB. But why do you consider moving away from the one you have? Just get the newer model if it worked well.
  3. Be ready for a lot of grinding! Just finished Dirt Destroyer last week. Really liked it.
  4. The teeth are on the inside... My wife's boereraat (and yes, she is a farm girl!) was crayons. But you cannot get to the actual zip to rub it on! It needs another wash, so I'll try soaking it in liquid soap. Those poor Myprodols are long since no longer of any use!
  5. I liked it! But it was between all my other training stuff, just another ride. x3. Stage 1 was fun, stage 2 was... boring and stage 3 was... mourse fun! Well done on 45th! I was happy with 180th! But I did do an epic trail run the day before. But at 55 k's you'll beat me up there any day! TBH, I got my trainer the day after lockdown was announced. At the insistence (seriously!) of my wife. If I was not able to run or (as a backup plan) ride... lockdown would go bad for the rest of the household. I am now very happily doing intervals and really getting my fitness up with structured training. Hardly ever do free rides. Just the odd fun group ride or event. It helps bugger-all for singletrack skills. But I feel good, have a way to switch off from now working in the study, and is leaner than when entering lockdown. Whether it's the gamification or the structured training, I don't care.
  6. Nope, tried a vast number of things. One of the issues being it's a reverse zip, so the "teeth" are on the inside.
  7. I have one issue with Salomon vests. And make no mistake, but for this I love their vests. Their zips stop working. I have a perfectly good 12l vest. With my medical kit stuck inside, because that zip is obviously not used often and is now completely stuck. Onto another topic.... I just got my Oceans t-shirt and buff. The t-shirt cannot be classified as tight-fitting. My M sits like... well, my wife said we should hear whether they have S left over! Okay, I did loose some weight during lockdown, but seriously?!

    MotoGP

Amazing - esp with those other two legends alongside!
  9. As Dexter. When I semi-stopped cycling and focussed on running, I used fenix for years, even when returning more to cycling. And recently added an Edge back on the bars. A good couple of years of riding with the fenix did not do harm. But between eyesight and quick glimpse on a piece of singletrack I more often than not of late had no idea what I was supposed to have seen... And it's sort-of tricky to change between screens. Edit: And before somebody chirps me on the last sentence - my watch is on my right arm, so the buttons are pressed up against my wrist. May be different for others...
  10. Also use Suito. I'm not a pro, so if the accuracy is slightly off, it only matters that much. As long as it is measured consistently. Only funny I picked up is that when doing low-power recovery intervals in ERG mode (on Zwift) the cadence at times jumps to a very low value, just quickly, and then back to the correct cadence. Was easy to notice when I did training sessions and hit a climb and the avatar would stand and pedal very briefly.
  11. I'd also like to agree with the above. You must learn to run easy. Otherwise, no matter what you do on the bike, eventually you'll injure yourself running. My start to running was filled with the fear of injury, so easy running was part of my build-up. (I actually started running in the build-up to first W2W to stay fit during winter...) So it comes naturally to me to just go for an easy run every now and then. Do yourself the favour and learn to run easy. It's not as easy as it sounds! I was in a chat with Landie Greyling a while ago and she commented how absolutely horribly hard it was when they altered their training to do more low-intensity training. It was an absolute mission to learn herself to run at low intensity. And she's a quite well-trained athlete.
  12. Hacc, I'm also on a Zwift program. And then came Scott week and I did Nino's VO2max session tonight. If you (or anybody else) was wondering how long 5 min's can become, try it while it is available. But basically: 5 min at 90 cadence and 125% FTP, 3 min rest... repeat... repeat... reepeeeat... reeeepeeeeeat...
  13. I'm sitting wondering the same thing about SeweweeksPoort. Contactless sport or not... And I've already made up my mind that even if Cape Town does (somehow) NOT get cancelled, there's a snowman's hope that I'll take a sachet from somebody's hand as early as October.
  14. Beware the "toe dipping into running" - that's how I started. Just to stay fit during winter for W2W with a partner that can cycle to work during winter. And it's never too late - I was... about 44 at that stage. I'm now swinging back into cycling a bit and enjoying both MTB and trail running immensely.
  15. If it saved the activity to Zwift itself, then you can just download a fit file from that activity and upload to other platforms. I have also had a freeze Sunday... on km 87! Nothing worked. Eventually powered down Ipad and went into zwift again just to see what it says - and it gave me an option to continue. It teleported me somewhat, but at least I could continue the ride from a slightly different point and saved fine after that. So maybe that option presents itself to you as well.
  16. From what I understand running on Zwift is much like ERG mode when you do training program. They have no terrain effect, simply pace on the treadmill. Unless, of course the higher end treadmills can can cater for that. So that guy can merrily klap his top speed on the treadmill as if he was running on a flat while you're coughing up a lung on that cobbled climbs. That's the way I understand it (please correct me if I'm wrong) and why I'll not invest in getting running on Zwift. Will much rather spend the time indoors constructively on the bike than on a dreadmill with not much else than pictures in front of me.

    Formula 1...

Pit stops was a free for for all till... was it not also after the black weekend at Imola 94 when a wheel came off under acceleration whilst still inside the pits? Until then, you had to be wakey and duck if you were in the pits - and the stops definitely did not remain at 16 seconds. We can thank a South African for that!
  18. For anything longer than a half, comfort over "race shoe" wins for me. Not that I run a lot of road (comparatively) nowadays.
  19. Paarl mountain, just a hill in comparison to some of the stuff you run! We do have access to some of the mountain before we hit the reserve areas. On Friday we weren't quite so aware of the reserve being closed so did sortof venture into there slightly...
  20. Made the mistake of hitting the mountain as soon as I could. I can walk properly today again. Even yesterday I was going down the stairs like somebody that did a marathon! Strange how we get used to what we can do... and then 5 weeks pass. Despite still being fit, trail running is a different animal.
  21. I agree with what most have said regarding change of brand. Why change if you're happy? Secondly - it's a very personal thing. Many many runners love Brooks. It just does not work for me. I love Saucony, also Altra. New Balance is next in line. (I tend to get them for the daily accumlative mileage runs which kills shoes, since I can pick them up on special more often...)
  22. Yes, definitely. I am not on a paid version. Set privacy zone since day 1. Was amazed to see that people have not set it, when seeing all these around-the-house runs.
  23. Fortunately my wife and daughter has a treadmill and I have a new trainer. Ready fir lockdown, ready for winter, ready for structured training (now there's a first for me!) on the trainer.
  24. Off topic, but you're talking about busy vs not busy... I noticed a lot more people in the mountain both days, yes. But then Sunday afternoon my wife wanted to go for a quick Sunday drive. Not getting out, just a drive. As it happens we drove past some of the local VERY popular wine farms. We even drove in at one, because we could not believe what we were seeing. Never ever saw either of those places so quiet. Places where you have to book weeks in advance stood empty. If we wanted, we could walk in and order a pizza. But... better a bit of economy struggles than struggling with the effects of this virus and overloaded hospitals.
  25. Well onto some good news! For the first time since all the niggles, I was back in the mountain yesterday! Holy cow, one quickly falls out of running uphill... Did the mind a LOT of good just be out there on foot again. Painful and painfully slow, but I was there. But the mountain is in horrible shape after the fire this week. It will heal, at least! Legs are really feeling it today. I am officially a softie!
