  1. Tjommies, where do you run? I run at night and when I run on road, there's no need for light with street and other lights. Only time I vaguely contemplated a light on road was when we had an area blacked out due to a substation failing for a couple of days. Yes, it gets dodgy on trails and mountain gravel road, so there I'll take a light along. Not familiar with that specific light, but the specs seem to tick the boxes.
  2. Jaws, what I've experienced is that while riding/running shortly after antibiotics my HR does not drop when recovering at all. It takes a good... usually about 2-3 weeks and then one day just suddenly it drops again. Keep in mind, it's not just antibiotics to blame - you've been ill/injured as well, causing you to have to use them. Also, check your workout HR values. It has happened that there's a malfunction and the HR "sticks". Then it will be a very flat line staying on one HR value throughout while other values vary. Best of luck!
  3. I also nearly had to get a change of pants when I saw this pic on strava this morning. I would not even have waited around to take a pic!
  4. Aaah, thanks Frosty... I was looking for it again this morning! Would have been quite nice. Odinson - which Saucony is that?! Wow... (Not liking the white soles, but really like the rest!)
  5. I never knew Garmin Connect had a 2018 vs 2019 records section... Anyways, as far as the weekend - I had an awesome Tour de Peninsula with two friends on MTB's. Best feeling was when somebody asked me in the tent afterwards what my time was and I had to admit that I have no idea and had to look it up on my Garmin!
  6. Good on you - you did about 3 times my mileage on bike.
  7. What do you count as "long distance"? But in personal experience - I have run with older Kinvaras and loved them so much that Saucony is now mostly my go-to shoes. I personally won't take them beyond 30 k's, but I'm sure there's people that will. Also ran with an older version of the Ghost and will not wear Brooks again, since for me they were too narrow and too high a drop for me and the heel was too jiggly. Yet there are millions of happy Brooks (esp Ghost!) runners. So, what I'm saying is, it's very individual. When 5 of us may praise one shoe, it may not be the shoe for you. Much like bike saddles...
  8. Sooo... when are the volunteers supposed to run?!

    Formula 1...

Ja, they still need time to copy the front wing... Pretty darn sure that a) that was not Vettel's only lap and b) you can't read much into these times.
  10. Aaah, did not know you had to start an activity - that's just... weird. I usually create routes to plan activities I plan to do in future. But that's just me... Thanks for the help, will check it out!
  11. I'll be the idiot... where's the route creator in the app? Cannot find it. Used the web version before (as recent as yesterday!) - but this looks like fun!
  12. Will check it out, thanks. I always like anything in a lemon flavor - so I assume it depends on taste. But if you do like a natural flavor, they nailed it! I had one and was reluctant to use it and tried it a couple of weeks ago. Where other natural/naked/unflavoured drinks have a distinct trying-not-to-taste-like-anything bland taste, this one gave the water a sliiight taste, almost salty(?) and I surprised myself and actually liked it.

    Formula 1...

Did I miss a rule change? This year's front wings look a lot less complex - nice and clean.
  14. Me... my go-to trail shoe at this stage. Have two different versions (5 and 8) of them and feet happy with both. I picked up my first issues in them EVER this weekend, but in hindsight, own stupidity by not lacing the newer pair correctly. Just went to check quickly, my 5's are at 920 k's and still going. Reaching end of life, but there's no tears, no soles/stitching loosening, thread still good, you name it. But I do know of a colleague who had his 5's tear (upper) quite early - at that flex point just behind the toes. As somebody else said, as long as the drop suits you, the shoe width suits you, etc, who cares what the logo says.
  15. I also like Versus socks. All my long runs are in them - or my I b**bies socks
  16. I tried toe socks as well, but I killed them. One muddy Bastille trailrun and that was the end of that. They were awesome while they lasted, though. Nice and warm as well... chose the wool option. Then, Altra Superior... awesome shoes - and I do love Altra shoes. But unless they changed it, be aware that the tread has a very limited life. The shoes keep working after that but wears down quite quick. But for a road training shoe, I absolutely loved my Altra. Used the Instincts at the time, but now those Escalante (not yet available at the time I bought) does look niiiice.
  17. Andrew, sorry to hear and hope the knee heals up quickly. But you learn much more when things go pear-shaped. Likewise, I went out too fast (hindsight) at last year's Oceans. Fortunately ended up being a slower than hoped for time, not a DNF with niggles to boot. Won't make that mistake again!
  18. This... and for long runs I found that I chafe on thighs a bit, so for those I have shorts with a longer built-in, almost like a tight. Currently using Nike ones, but there are others available as well. Whatever's on special...
  19. Hope you heal up man! Nothing of this dom boks things - it's not as if a calf usually goes on a short run.

Both Yamaha liveries look great! But what happens on track is what counts. Duck looks like a Ferrari F1 on two wheels livery-wise.
  22. Will definitely be there! Bummed that it's (again) on the same weekend as the Cape Town Tri, but it is what it is. Presume I'm one of the few that had to choose between the two!

Was about to crack a Land Rover oil joke... and the I remembered (maybe incorrectly) that I think this is the team was Toyota in a previous life.
  24. The beep is the first thing I turn off when I get a watch. Set mine on vibrate and that's it. I hate those beeps. But I tend to keep it at 1k and if I really care I look and see. More often than not the distance rather than the split time! Day after Red Hill I went up the mountain with a friend and we said - we better not tell the roadies we just did our first 3 k's in 45 min's!
  25. I'm also in the high max HR gang... it is what it is. Just work on the correct formula from your max HR and don't worry about what the BPM is relative to other people. (They'll just freak out and rush you to hospital! )
