  1. Definitively price fixing!
  2. Thanks for the info, it makes sence.
  3. Service is the key. I will happily pay more for an official Polar product because their service is so good. I have to add it help that I am close to ther service centre.
  4. Wow, serial numbers! What will they think of next!<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Bummer, I cant find any serial numbers on any of the wheels I own, they must be all pirated! Maybe we should get JB to give us some info on the serial numbers on hubs and rims of all the wheels he has build. I personally have not seen any serial numbers on the shimano/campy hubs and the assortment of rims that I own.
  5. Yip,the stuff came in before all hell broke loss so we can expect another 20-50% on top of that when the new shipments come in.Ox_Wagon2008-10-16 06:36:49
  6. On a more serious note: I dropped in at some of the LBS in my area and it looks like the price increases (price fixing?) are starting to kick in. Some stuff I was interested in has increased by 30-40%. I guess I will not be buying any of those anymore.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  7. Troll alert!
  8. Thanks, nope they are oldish American Classic 350's that has done the rounds on the HUB Classifieds circuit. They are not as light as the new ones and hopefully does?t have the same weight limit. This is my first set of "Racing" wheels and I am impressed. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Sorry Joss, but I am way to perfectionist AND lazy to put white handle bar tape and saddle on any bike. It will get dirty to fast which would irritate me but I would be too lazy to clean it which would simply increase the irritation. I tried bright orange handel bar tape on my Orbea and it looked great untill after the first ride. Do you recognize the crank? STM, yes it is a ?Pink frilly shirt? compact which I really enjoy, especially when you cycle(crawling speed) past guys push their bike up Suikerbos hill on the Ride for Victory. I must admit that I ran out of speed down one of the downhill as the cassette only has a 13 small cog. I need to see if I can get hold of a 12/11 at some stage.
  9. So have we figured out if spokes are ever in compression?
  10. No worries
  11. I still waiting for you to come back to me on other stuff so I will pass
  12. Thanks, but no.
  13. Price and make?
  14. From a old thread: https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=32256&KW= The BCD determines the smallest chain ring that you can fit. To quote Http://www.sheldonbrown.com/harris/chainrings.html<?: PREFIX = O /> Campy road = 135 BCD = 39 Shimano road = 130 BCD = 38 Road Compact, MTB STD (old type) = 110BCD = 33 MTB Compact (on all new MTB, 4 arm) = 104 BCD = 32 (29) (Even "Pink frilly shirt" BigBen has on on his MTB's) There is also ?supposed? to be a small difference between the spacing of the chain rings. Shimano recommends that you use their ?special? flatbar shifter instead of normal MTB shifter. http://cycle.shimano-eu.com/catalog/cycle/products/group.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302049903&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=1408474395181667&bmUID=1220548200443 The 2x9 MTB setup is a relatively old idea(Cannodale's coda cranks etc), but they fit a 29 instead of a 32. 29 are just very hard to find expecialy in ZA. 15. What LBS did you get it through and ball park price?
  16. Cool
  17. Has anyone used star express couriers?
  18. The bike could do it, the problem is the engine!
  19. The idea was that it would tie in with the fine red lines on the cages and the small red S on the back of the seat post?? Aghhhhh, I am sounding like a roadie??<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Does it mean I need to start shaving my legs now!
  20. After months of scavenging and scratching in bargain bins my Specialized is finally finished. The only thing I may change is to go back to silver or black chain ring bolts. the red bolts look out off place.
  21. Thanks, now it is going to take the rest of the morning to get all the coffee from my screen and keyboard.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Rad, cool bike!
  22. The problem isn't the shop it is the availability of Campy in ZA. You will have a hard time getting any type of Campy brake block in most shops and if they are available they are really expensive. You do however find BBB campy replacement pads in most shops. Ox_Wagon2008-10-04 04:19:01
  23. Syntax' date=' syntax, syntax. Coat the wife in honey and roll her on the kitchen floor and check the look on her face. Not sure where the tyre fits in. Oh my, what an unfortunate bit of syntax that is. [/quote'] This sounds like a very promising experiment!
  24. Like all things in cycling there is no simple answer. If the knobblies are symmetrical there is no difference and if they not, I ?think? we agreed in the ?truce?, that most of us will not be able to notice the difference.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> MTB tire design is a trade off study in traction, low rolling resistance and life span. The next question you also need to ask your self is what was the manufactures main focus when the specifying the rotational direction. Were they sacrificing a bit of traction for better live span or rolling resistance etc? My opinion is that it is the case with all of the ?one sided ramped knobby? tires (SB8, Nevegal, Monorail, Crossmark, TT). I personal want the following in MTB tires: Front: A fast rolling tire with excellent sideways traction (90deg to rolling direction) so it will not wash out on turns. So I looking for the following: Rear: Fast rolling tire with excellent traction. So I looking for the following, although I will run it the ?wrong? way around: Classic examples of this are the WTB Velocity Raptors and long before them the Panaracer Smoke and Dart. That said, my last 3 sets of tires (WTB Primal raptors, Conti Mountainking and SB8) where all not front/rear specific. I did however find the SB8 was not up to the job as a front tire. Here is a nice experiment you can do in your/friends kids sandbox. Take a shaped block and push it through the sand and work out for you self which direction (A/B) will give you the most traction/least rolling resistance/longest tire life. Have fun. 25. What is even more mind boggaling is that you pay more for a Conti road BICYCLE tire than a conti CAR tire. As the saying goes " a Fool and is money is soon parted" No wonder I have no money!Ox_Wagon2008-09-30 01:17:08
