  1. In my scavaging I got hold of a cheap set of disc wheels that are already fitted with a tubeless strip. I wasn?t planning on going that route but would not mind experimenting with it if I can do it with out breaking the bank. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I currently have a set of wire beaded <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Conti Mountain kings and normal foldable Small Block 8. Would it be possible to run these tubeless with out ?too much? risk or must I get special tubeless tires with their thicker side walls. What tires would you recommend while keeping cost in mind?
  2. Funny, I have had really good results with greased seat tubes especially with my steel frame that has a tendency to want to rust for some unknown reason. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> I have not been able to get that special compound that increases the friction for the carbon yet. Does anyone know where I can get a real small amount of it?
  3. There will always be Trolls out there. They are looking for attention so the best way to handle it is to deprive them of it. I had a fiend that use to say the worst insult you can give anybody is to ignore them. Luckily most of them have ADHD so after a while they will get bored and move on to the next forum.
  4. The importer of Commencals is on the hub and he organizes test rides in <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Gauteng. Also look at Mongoose Canaan, GT and Merida. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  5. As long as it shorter than 10cm
  6. There was a notice published in the government gazette(?) about two month?s ago that indicate that the Government wants clamp down on ALL non-firearm weapons which boils down to the fact that you would need a license if you want to buy a bread knive at your local convenient store. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> http://www.kreature.co.za/camping-hiking-gear-news/dangerous-weapons-act.htm
  7. I have a piece of tire liner that I use for that.
  8. Yip, and now they are collectable. The thing is is those laws still in place?
  9. I also nearly hit another cyclist comming back from work on night on my MTB. Close call. Ox_Wagon2008-07-02 05:08:01
  10. and all cyclist should wear helmits and should have a licence disk on the bicycle that they need to renew every year like a car licence.
  11. It is funny to hear Cyclist sounding like the motorist that they bitch about. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> We all have heard that ?Bicycles should not be on the road? argument from motorist and now we using the same argument. The problem was that a cyclist was doing 40km/h plus without having lights in the dark, which is also illegal. We need to be accommodating to all road users and not decide that there is a certain pecking order. So next time you see a runner coming up to you and he steps of the road to make it possible to safely pass him, thank him. If you come op to a walker warn them what side you will be passing him otherwise they will do their best to remove your right to ride you favorite trail.
  12. I am also running Mountain Kings 2.2. I see the 2.4 are 60mm wide http://www.conti-tyres.co.uk/conticycle/ti%20mountainking.shtml
  13. The 2.4 indicates that it is 2.4 inches wide. The problem is that you are not sure how the manufacture measured it. WTB tried to introduce the new system where the one value is the width with out knobblies of the tire and the other the maximum width of the tire. In your case it would be around 60mm. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> But not everybody is using it so rather have a look at the ETRTO numbers on the side wall. There should be something in the line of 60-559 on your tire. It is an ISO standard that gives you the maximum width of the tire if it is mounted on a 20mm rim (2.1? marked tire could very between 47-54mm). The 559 gives you the diameter of the wheel. So if you know your frame can take a 60mm wide tire have a look at the tires that has a similar width. Ox_Wagon2008-07-01 11:19:03
  14. JB is correct the pitch should not change but the outside diameter and/or width of the spline spline could reduce causing the splines not to engage properly with the crank arm. It sounds like someone used it while it wasn't properly tighten. <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> It sounds like the classic BB problem. You got the same effect with square taper cranks that the BB and crank gets so badly damages that there is play irrespective of how tight you crank the bolt. That is one of the reasons Shimano started <?: prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Octalink (ISIS etc) which is ironic in this case. There is always epoxy if you know your not going to remove the crank any time soon. If you through the crank in the car, I can have a look at it...... Can't promise anything. 15. That is why they tend to run a more aggressive thread on the front. I also running SB8 at the moment but can't seem to start trusting the front tire especially on hard pack with small stones on top of it. A combo I would like to try is a Conti Mountain King on the front with a Race King at the back but the Race Kings are to expensive at the moment.
  16. It is a copy of a Specialized Roubaix concept (geometry) which is a good idea.
  17. Here is some ideas: http://www.schwalbe.co.uk/n-115-schwalbe-3-tire-race-system.html
  18. Them maybe the should have beter after sales service.
  19. Thanks for the review.
  20. After 3 Opel I am finised with them. So no love or tears lost if they don't make it.
  21. Used the BBB stuff with out any problems. Use 3M black insulation tape for almost everthing else. Ox_Wagon2008-06-30 05:51:03
  22. Would n't know. The only outboard bearing crank I have is a FSA. Ox_Wagon2008-06-30 05:48:41
  23. Do you have a pic. I am not to sure what the problem is, but if its the spindle and you really want to save it you could look at putting in a shim. Coca Cola makes really nice ones.
