  1. Hi Hubbers My wife just checked on her cell phone bill and has seen "data charges" at over R300 a month. She has a contract with Vodacom for voice, NOT data. Smartcall are a company selling data services onto Cell-C, MTN and Vodacom for sex sites, wallpapers and ringtones. I gave never setup her blackberry for Internet usage, nor has she. She gets at least 2 sms's a week from vodacom informing her that the Internet settings aren't setup on her phone, and to click accept on the message to push the settings to her phone. To date this has not been done. After calling Vodacom to ask about these charges, the accounts person said my wife needs to take it up with Smartcall. After calling Smartcall they told my wife she had been to a site containing adult content. ( I know there are going to be a few wise chirps about this) Smartcall have NO logs of what site was visited. The second time my wife called she was told she had downloaded wallpapers for her phone. What are the implications wrt the CPA? Vodacom are refusing to refund the money, saying we need to get it back from Smartcall. Smartcall are saying they have never invoiced my wife, but they are allows to because she agreed to a data contract with them. Smartcall cannot provide copies of a signed contract, nor any sms's sent to her phone informing her of extra charges How can Vodacom bill someone for something that was never used? After doing a bit of digging I have found out that Smartcall have lost 4 cases for this exact type of illegal billing, and been made to pay the Wireless Application Service Providers Association fines of R80k each. Anybody else gone through their cell phone bill carefully and checked that you're not also been erroneously billed for services NOT rendered?
  2. I bought a fork from him last week. No problems with the dude. Nice guy. Don't worry, he's legit. He works for Mercedes, I have ordered a car from the lad. Fear not, he's always on call for work. He will make a plan and meet you and sort you out. He's always late though...
  3. I also bought a pcs9. Don't dig the fact that it doesn't have a quick release bit. The pcs10 is a far better option, and a great piece of engineering.
  4. Weren't you the oke the other day asking for free mtb stuff? Did you win the lottery?
  5. Almost any cycling shop should carry stock. You can order online from cwc and have them mailed to you
  6. Easily possible. Go and try it, drafting is a rush. Doesn't sound like any of you have the balls to try it. Used to do it behind trucks on training rides out in Hekpoort over 20 years ago. Also done it on a mtb behind a truck on the tour d'urban route near umhlanga on the hiway, but that was only 80kmh for a few kms. Nerve racking
  7. Careful with going to a shop. Often the salesman will corner you and make you buy something you don't really want. Rather go and ride on that you see for sale on the hub, and chat to the guys here, they will give their 2c worth. A lot of the responses here are a load of crap, so ignore them, but there is a vast knowledge pool available here
  8. What size are you looking for? Thats always a good starting point.
  9. Fitter, where did you have a 120 made? They're not standard so rather don't talk crap to a nooby.
  10. I have a set of juicy 3.5's that I'll swop?
  11. Giba is worth the drive. Take your wife with you, get her to drop you off and let her go down to Pavillion to do some shopping. Hook up with sone of the local boys and let them show you around. Some lung-busting climbs up to anti-gravity hill but the dh singletrack is mind-blowing. A ride you should not miss
  12. Damn, I got it about 3 years ago, but I'll be damned if I know where the receipt is. Had the same issue when I swopped out my Kona frame under warranty, had no idea where the receipt was. The shop however still did the swop without the receipt.
  13. Thanks for the input guys. Wasn't so sore then, but damn, feeling second hand now. Neck has got stiff too
  14. Well ,there we were. At Teak Place for our last ride. Everything went great (apart from the burger arriving 55 mins after we ordered it). Was really enjoying the green route (Heineken) when my son asked me to go to the BMX track with him. So I went... That was a big mistake. There were heaps of kids having a good time, but no-one were clearing the jumps. Some kid asks me if I can... Silly Stupid. So I get the bike into the proper gear, eye them out and bolt. I cleared the first set, then came the second.. Well, I cleared it, but the landing was BAD. Needless to say I never broke my carbon handle-bars (although my ankle feels pretty buggered now) and I have a roastie second to none. What I did notice when I got back and took my helmet off was that it was broken. I fell donderse hard and saw lots of stars Someone told me when I got another pain-killer (Heineken) that the agents usually swop out broken helmets under warranty. Anyone know if this is the case? He also said that it was a brilliant and entertaining crash, and his kids came running to say they just saw a man crashing his brains out!
  15. +1 Learn to roll with the punches and dish it straight back from whence it comes.
  16. Yes, I asked if I can come and see what the big people are up to. Just got back from riding, which some of us Hubbers do sometimes (unlike others...) How is Nigeria today? No red snapper on the menu tonight? Just brandy, again?
  17. Also gonna miss the place. I never made it this morning, had to take the kids to a tennis tournament. The party last night was also a lot better than I thought it would be. Only rode the spruit this afternoon. Plus was that some dude told me I should start racing as he thought I was really fast. Never told him I still had a hangover.... We will be riding teak on Tuesday, a group of about 10 of us are riding. Looking forward to it
  18. They have been told they can't open because the environmental impact study hasn't been done or they failed on one of the points. So don't hold your breath for the new place. Maybe cradle restaurant will get their act together quicker also
  19. I have 2 suggestions: 1 I can vouch for, the other I have only heard good things about. Cyclists Workshop- Josh. Near leaping frog, at the nursery. He's built my 5 bikes and always does a good job for a reasonable price. Johan Bornman. I want to go and do a bike building course with him, the a fork servicing course, then a wheel building course.
  20. Look at a chimpanzee's forearms in the zoo. They look the same. It's not about how much time you spend in the gym, but more the body fat you're carrying. There's not much difference between his arms and mine, just my eyes get much bigger down the big downhills than his..... Look at the fat chick in the background: she spends her riding/gym time eating...
  21. Rock shandy? Green route=Heineken, Amstel or Windhoek. 45kms of Teak followed by green route would mean that sat evening party would be lopsided! A quick blue route over the road as a warmup followed by coffee snd black route thereafter could be good. Sunday we could ride orange and black, followed by a REAL green route and a designated driver to get me back to the palace in one piece
  22. Prefer to party on Sunday if that's ok? Have a big party to get to in dainfern on Saturday night and don't want to get there pissed already.
  23. Yip Not wanting to get embroiled in a moralistic/racist debate with anyone, but Dangle and a bunch of the boys lead a crusade and made the world a better place for us by engaging with the natives and letting them know more about us cyclists. That and busting a syndicate/bunch of bastards who were picking us off and stealing our bikes. It is safer inside now, and you can buy the pass online now instead of going to the ticket office. (someone help with the address please)
  24. You say it like it's a bad thing? You should be relieved someone wanted a GT. Was the perpetrator that brand specific? Dumb ass That means you can get a real bike now. Get a Scott or a Spez. On a serious note, sorry for your loss. Use your insurance money wisely....
