Mine doesnt seem to want to go down @ that psi.Think on vital one poster said might be some stiction till post is run in at 250psi and to run it abit lower. Im running it about 200 and seems to go down fairly easily,is it imperative that i run it at 250psi ? Thnx in advance
  2. I know this is a long shot but if anyone sees a Rock Shox rebound knob in tokai it's mine. It fell off my bike sometime during my ride on Saturday.

  4. Hi all, just had 2 bikes liberated from my garage in Plumstead this morning. If you lay eyeballs on them, please give me a shout. 2010 KTM Ultra Race alu hardtail 26er. White with black & red trim. White RockShox fork. Raleigh RC6000, silver and black, with carbon fork and seat stays. I've attached pics of the models, not the actual bikes. I don't have them to take pics of Thanks a mil Marco
  5. I would like some feedback and product quality of the Manitou Minute Expert. And how does it compare to others? Like the Rock Shox Reba?
  6. I'm looking to buy a XC, marathon bike that will also be a good all rounder. I do the occasional short races/rides but prefer longer stage races and trail riding. All the bikes mentioned got good reviews, and except for the BMC, the others are frame plus build what your heart desires. The problem is none of the bikes (again except for the BMC) is available to take for a test ride. I don't want to spend a crap load of money only to find out I bought the wrong bike. I'd really appreciate any comments from anyone who actually own/rode any of the bikes..... I'm not a lightweight at 100kg and about 1,9....Build will most likely be 2x10 XO with Rockshox SID 100mm (the Yeti is 120mm)...
  7. Meet our brand new, genuine 27.5” dual suss. 9.3kg (ex pedals), XX1 drive and dual lock out means that climbing and flat-out performance will easily be up there alongside the best XC duals - and dare we say, even the top hard tails. But what's gonna set this beaut ahead of them all is a more relaxed head tube angle combined with a 120mm travel Rockshox Reba RLT fork makes for true “enduro” downhill capability enhances descending and all-terrain capability significantly. Best, unlike all the "650Bs" popping up that are actually tweaked 26ers with 27.5” wheels squeezed to fit, our new honey is engineered from the bottom up as a dedicated mid-wheeler and the geometry and performance are, in our experience, perfect for getting the most out of this exciting new wheel size. This is our prototype and the production models are about to be shipped bearing our awesome new “Mercurial” paint job (hint: think metallic grey shades and awesome graphics).

  10. The first thing I would like to say is thanks to all who have supported my efforts in getting my blood sugar under control. You all know who you are. My bike Giant Anthem X 29er, Giant wheels and cross something tyres, Fox RP23 Rear Shock, All XT components except for the XTR rear der, brakes G2 cleansweep discs with Sram XX World Cup, Ritchey Carbon Riser bar, A Ritchey 110mm stem Ritchey Carbon layback Seatpost, Specialized saddle (Henge 143mm) and a Rock Shox SID XX 29er tapered 15mm through axle and a Specialized helmet. And before I forget my old weight lifting gloves. So the ride started well. Out the house HR 75 BPM down the road going like a bat out of hell pulled the 185 XX World cup brake on and thought I was going over the bars. Thankfully I did not. First lesson the brakes are good. Started the first climb not big but heart rate now up to 135 little out of breath but doing well. Gear not sounding so good as I tried to push up the hill a friend riding with me told me small front and small back gear selection not good and large front and large back gears crossing over also not a good thing to do. Second lesson dont cross your gears. Ok been out for about 25 min heart rate at 145 and now starting a long climb up to the top of the village. Stopped 3 time on the way up HR 175 out of breath friend riding with me looks like he is falling asleep told him to check the route ahead, cars going past me people laughing but hey I am having a great time. Lesson three the hill is bigger than I thought. Ok so we are at the top of the village and Eugene said were does this dirt track go to? (Should have said I don’t know) I realised then I was in trouble but as us men do I plucked up my remaining testosterone and said my son said it’s a great way back home he used it many a time on the 4 wheeler lets go back home that route. Fourth lesson don’t think with your nuts and don’t listen to your son’s advice. After getting 90% of the way up kill e man jaro Eugene who has by now been up and down about ten times said he went right at the top and once again my nuts started to think for me and out my mouth came the words you should have gone left (oh why did I speak) Lesson five keep my big mouth shut. Right he says lets go. That is where the wheels fell off. I was in the lowest gear and I was told to take it easy so I pushed like hell it was up hill remember, there I popped my first wheelie and the next thing I felt was my head hitting the ground and I remember looking at Eugene who was on the floor laughing. I was ok but my pride had a dent. Lesson six listen to advice. Ok so off we go again finally I reached the top HR 175 and climbing it was about now I remembered the doctors words ringing in my ears do not go above 110 HR and walk as exercise. We are now at the top looking down across a dirt track between the fields and I can see all the these flashing colours in my eyes and my legs are shaking. Lesson seven always take the advice of your doctor. There is a big discussion about the technical route it went something like which way I said thinking with my nuts the steepest and fastest. Oh boy was that a mistake and it’s starting to go dark. Off we go Eugene in front and me catching him at a rate that can only be described as suicidal the bumps are causing me to see double and me thinking these monstrous brakes if I pull them they will send me flying so what do I do as Eugene takes a left turn I call him a sadistic AH and go off I go into the freshly dug sugar cane. I have never been so happy the dirt just brought me to a grinding halt my HR is off the scale plus the sweat is burning my eye so I cannot see. Lesson eight a mixture of lessons four and five. Still only 1/3 of the way down and I am thinking what now walk or cry well let me tell you this is where I moved into top gear, the thought process was at its peak I was again using my nuts as my brain and because I thought my son loved me and he though his route was great and I thought that I should stick with it and the thought of my dear wife who was sitting at home having a beer my mouth got the better of me and well I said lets race to the bottom and off we went. It was clear from the start my 60 minutes experience of mountain biking was all coming together the suspension going downhill was set at hard the hand eye coordination with the brakes was in tune and just because I could not see in the dark hell what could go wrong. I have lost all feeling in my bum Eugene is now at warp 9 I am close on his tail and thinking am I insured enough. It was then I though suspension should be set as soft!!!! Suddenly out the dark I hear Eugene shout watch out its soft!!!! WTF is he going on about I thought then another command ringing out go left WTF !!! is he on about. Out of the darkness I see a wall of thick bush approaching me at speed and Eugene going off to my left so this time no choice I go left. It was about then I though what was he going on about soft!!! This is the same time I saw this sand approaching my head the front wheel slipping gently away. Lucky for me no damage except once again Eugene is on the floor laughing. Lesson nine brakes are good, don’t cross your gears, hills are bigger than you think, don’t think with your nuts and don’t listen to your sons advice, keep my big mouth shut, listen to advice, always take the advice of your doctor, mixture of lesson four and five. So I make it home in one piece and my bike is fantastic had the best hour and a bits worth of enjoyment I have had in a long time. Lesson ten Get yourself a bike All in all a great ride and I will be doing many more. orsum
  11. Hi guys. Our gardener which stays on a plot in the Olympus area Orange Diamond Back mountain bike was taken from him by 4 guys just across the road from the mooikloof northern entrance. It's got indola Stickers down the underside of the down tube as well as a rock shox decal in the BB area. On the one chain stay there is a area with no paint. Been sanded down due to chips that were there. It's got a shimano A rear deraileur and combined shifter and brake lever. The gear indication dials are also not there anymore. 12. I ordered a Rockshox Sid XX Xloc 26" 100mm Solo Air Fork from Buycycle but received the Dual Air version. I've done some research and it's a bit inconclusive which is better. (yes, before I get tarred and feathered, I did check out the Hub thread). I ride mostly the CT single track trails like Contermans, Tokai, Jonkershoek, etc. What should I do, keep the Dual Air or send it back for a replacement? I haven't contacted Buycycle yet.

  15. Right, so I got myself the latest coil shock from RS late last week. Fitted it Friday evening, only to ride it today. One ride, not enough time to really push it and fiddle with it. But off the bat this thing activates Quick! Hell, you can compress the shock by hand. I have two other Vivids here, and NONE of them even budge a micrometer by hand. So that quick off-the-bike squeeze was very promising. Settings: 450lbs Ti-coil RS Vivid R2C, medium rebound, medium compression 3 clicks compression 10 clicks beginning stroke rebound nfi about clicks of ending stroke rebound Other: Rear tyre: Schwalbe Muddy Mary, Vertstar, 1.9 bar. So what's new with the 2014 Vivid? (source: Pinbike) • Counter Measure negative spring http://ep1.pinkbike.org/p5pb9283939/p5pb9283939.jpg http://lp3.pinkbike.org/p1pb6168857/p1pb6168857.jpg The Counter Measure spring (circled in red ) proved to be especially effective within the Vivid Air R2C, going a long way towards eliminating the added friction associated with an air spring. • Rapid Recovery damping • Re-worked piggyback bridge and adjustment dials • Smoother oil flow paths for less turbulence Within the first few pedal strokes, one can feel the negative spring kicking in. It's indirect, as the negative spring is meant to counteract the stiction created by the seals in the shock. According to RS, the negative spring drops stiction to exactly Zero, and its only in effect over the first 10mm of shock travel. So if your frame's suspension geo results in some pedal bob, you'll feel the shock react as if its "topping out". THat's actually two things in the new shock coming into play that I haven't experienced before with previous Vivids: counter measure causing the shock to activate nearly instantaneously, and rapid recovery (and I'm assuming working in conjunction with associated newly engineered reductions in internal friction) causing the shock to recover ready for the next stroke. Out on the trail, you don't feel that 'topping out' though. Subjective as this sentiment real is, if only because it was just one ride, the first ride with the new shock, I have to say, the bike felt more planted at the back. Planted without any harshness. Stiction in the rough can cause some interesting rear wheel deflections that makes the bike feel less planted, and this is notably absent with the new shock. Other things I've noted: Coil compression collar : its redesigned. The new collar lacks holes in it, so you can't use a thin allen key to turn the collar. The indentations in the collar are deeper than previous collars, so I'm presuming the thinking is you have more purchase and leverage using your fingers. Works so far, but I'm pretty sure that as dirt clogs up the thread on the shock body, turning that collar could get harder making you wish you had those holes again. I haven't checked, but I wouldn't be surprised if the older collars are compatible. Adjustment dials: compression and ending stroke rebound dials easy to access and easy to turn. The beginning stroke rebound knob, which sits right at the end of the shaft, is a bit hard to access due to my frame. In general thuogh, the detents are quite vague and indistinct in one direction. Turning the other way improves the feedback so you get a distinct 'click'. Availability: Not freely available within ZA. Pre-ordering is essential, but I've heard that pre-2014 Vivids, that were replaced under warrantee were replaced with the 2014 model. Bit of a strange situation given there's currently no standing stock of the 2014 models. But that's just what I've heard. Best bet at the moment, is to import it, and there is mostly price parity between overseas retailers and local shops. I got mine from Germany and it came in under what the LBS quoted me, minus the stupid 3 month wait. Once I've ridden a bit more, I'll update this thread. But feel free to add your own experiences.
  16. Hi guys. I am looking for a stockiest/dealer/agent in the Cape Town area. I am in need of a X lock full sprint remote and a 15mm Maxle through axle. Any help will be appreciated.
  17. I currently have RockShox Dart Coil suspension on my MTB, i have turned the dampener all the way to the softest setting and this still gives me a very very hard ride. (lock out is off) I am a light weight (57kg) so i am wondering where one can buy a softer coil. It seems like a fairly basic process of changing the coil, but i cant seem to find a place to buy the coil Any suggestions
  18. Hi Guys, Really running out of Ideas, Im building up a bike and found a crack in my 15mm Rockshox maxle... Net result I need an Axle ASAP and cant seem to find any around. I really am out of Ideas and looking for one to buy, so if anyone has one to sell (new or like new conditoion) or knows if any shops in JHB have stock please let me know. Can any shops in JHB source one for me quickly? Or are these only really availible online? If so who can I rely on to get it to me this week? Sorry to post an ad and forum, really need to finish my steed ... Thanks in advance, Cheers Sam
  19. Hi guys. I've decided to try and help a friend sell his bike, but I'm not sure what it's worth. Can anyone give me some pointers? It's a Token full carbon 29er - Large. Complete XX SRAM groupset 2x10 gears Rock Shox Reba fork (not sure model or travel) ZTR Crest Rims Maxxis tubeless tyres (I think its Crossmarks) Pedals removed - buyer can put new ones on. The bike is in pristine condition with low mileage. The owner doesn't like the hobby any more (can you believe it!). I wish I could afford buying this bike now. It's light and very well looked after. Instead I'll try find a buyer for him. He wants R16k for it. Is that a reasonable expectation? Sorry for the poor quality WhatsApp pics. I can upload decent ones in a few days.
  20. Hi guys, I'm still on my trusty 26er and considering to build myself a 29er. So when I've got the money and there's a bargain, I will buy bits and pieces. My question is: why am I seeing so many Fox float 29 forks being sold (and mostly new of bikes)? Is Rock shox better in the 29er department? Thanks
  21. Hi All I ride an On One Scandal 29er. I currently have a Rockshox Recon Gold on the bike but want to upgrade the fork to something more plush and a little lighter. The Recon Gold is not very smooth and it is heavy. I mainly do 40 - 45km rides off road. I do not jump the bike. What would you recommend?
  22. When I lock my RockShox XC32 I still have a slight bit of bounce if I put downward pressure on the fork. The bike was bought brand new in the shop and the guy said that is normal. Its just concerning as every other suspension with lockout that i've come across (all were cheapies thought) had absolutely no bounce once locked. So is this normal?
  23. So, now that I have gone and bought a new Morewood frame. I have to now unfortunately sell one of my other bikes as per the woman's instruction. I know, I know it sucks! but selling my soul to the devil woman has gotten me a unused Mbuzi frame and I'm ok with that The bike that I need to sell is a 2012 Mongoose Salvo Elite with some upgraded components such as: Shimano SLX brakes RockShox Tora 302 Coil U-Turn Fork Da-Bomb Hubs ( 9mm QR) sun ringle rhyno lite Rims Every thing else is what the bike came with, 10 speed etc, etc... Here is a photo of the bike BEFORE the upgrades took place: (Yes, I'm too lazy to take an updated photo, but I'm sure you get what I'm saying) Here is a picture( Just because I can) of the Mbuzi: As you can see that it was soooooo worth selling my soul Anyways, my mate is keen on the bike and I don't wanna rip him off, so what would you say is a reasonable price for him to pay?
  24. Hi, Quick question. I bought the 2014 Merida Big 7 Tfs 500 this week and was looking through the stats. The dealer told me the fork is a air shock on the 2014 but If I go onto the Rock Shox website it says its a coil shock..?
