  1. Hi Hubbers! I have gotten into cycling, specifically mountain biking, over the past year. At the moment I have two bikes, a 26er hard-tail and a 29er dual-suspension. I have also spent a lot of time on a hard-tail 29er which is a friend of mines. As per the title I weigh +-100kg's, 6ft2, with not much body fat. I live in Cape Town and do most of my riding on Table Mountain with the dual-sus 29er. When I am in other provinces I use the 26er and hard-tail 29er respectively. What I notice is that my worst rides from a struggling with getting up hills point of view and just getting around in general are on the dual-sus 29er. I don't know if it is just because it is much heavier than the hard-tails or if it is just not setup correctly (although I was fitted on the bike), but I really don't enjoy my riding when I ride with the dual-sus 29er. To give you an example, while in Durban I had the pleasure of riding at Holla Trails, the yellow route (48km's) on a hard-tail 29er and it was an absolute pleasure. Back home in the Cape I often cycle to the blockhouse on Table Mountain +-20km, and I also took part in the Xterra in Grabouw which was a difficult 28km's but it felt like murder on the dual-sus 29er, and the blockhouse ride sucks until I start the descent. At the moment the thoughts going through my head are sell the dual-suspension and move to a hard-tail. Carrying 100kg's around is already difficult as it is, am I being foolish trying to do it on a heavier dual-suspension bike? The type of riding I do is recreational, table mountain, the odd off-road triathlon and I am hoping to do some stage races next year like sani2c. Having said that could it be that I need more experience on the dual-suspension, my legs need to get stronger, the setup needs to be looked at? All of which I am going to do regardless before making a decision. I find that it feels like I am riding quite low even with the suspension locked out and my pedals often make contact with objects, which when on a hard-tail, would normally not happen unless the pedals are vertical when going over an obstacle. I climb hills like a demon on a hard-tail and like a rookie on the dual-sus. I would just like some insight from experienced riders like yourself, perhaps this is a normal learning curve. The 29er is a Scott Spark 940. Thanks! milo
  2. Hi there I have a scott cr1 comp full carbon 2011 large frame to swop for mtb xl frame
  3. Hi all You have probably seen the news articel in the Cape Argus today about the mugging on Sunday morning. My stolen bike is a Scott Addict R3, Zipp 303 non dimple wheels, FSA carbon crank, SRAM red, FIZIK saddle, Thompson seat post, Ritchie Handle bar, etc. Would reaaly appreciate some feedback. I am offering a reward to the recovery of the bike. Please help. Abbas 0827861902
  4. A mate of mines bike was stolen please keep a look out!! See below mail from him! Can you please put the word out. I had a high end mtb that was stolen on Saturday (see details below) and I’m desperately trying to get it back. It’s a very unique bike and you won’t find many of them. Please can you help by forwarding to everyone you know. On Saturday 26th April someone stole my mtb off the back of a Thule bike rack that it was locked on to. It happened in the mall in Glena Marais shopping centre where Finish Line Cycles is and security miraculously never saw anything despite being less than 20 meters away. The bike is a Scott Scale SL 900. The entire bike is matt black with an XX1 groupset, Rockshox fork, carbon Syncross wheels and finishing kit. Non standard items are black ESI grips and Geax Sagaro tubeless tyres. It has a small white tipex marking on the seat pin where it goes into the frame and also on the saddle rails from when the bike was fitted for me. There are small scratches on the inside of the rear triangle caused by a piece of wire that got stuck in the wheel a while ago. Bike is a medium and 2013 model in excellent nick. Please look out for it cos it's very rare and worth about R80k and I’m not insured. Happy to pay a reward. Richard 0768133326

  7. If insurance agrees I will be looking at a new roadbike What do you guys suggest for around that price? I was thinking scott foil perhaps. Thought I would get a 2013 Foil 10 for a good price only to find out that they did not bring in any 2013 foil 10's. I did however get a good price so far on the foil team (slightly higher than price indication obviously). Another thought was trying a Fondriest but then I guess I would have to build 1 up which would cost a bit more than 40K Open to suggestions pls
  8. Howzit,3 GUYS WALKED INTO LINDEN CYCLES TODAY WITH A XL SCOTT. We think bike has been stolen, when asked they said MY BOSS GAVE IT TO ME.If anyone knows of someone thats missing a bike can they please come and identify bike. Cheers
  9. I recently needed to get the DT Swiss NUDE shock of my Scott Spark (2013) serviced. I rang a bike shop in Pretoria and the confirmed that they can send it to DT Swiss to get it serviced and that the cost will be between R650 and R750. I arranged for the shock to be dropped off at the shop and about a week later I was informed by the shop that the shock is back and the cost for the service is R1,450. I believe some seals were replaced. Is this the normal cost for a service of for a DT Swiss NUDE back shock? Is there any way to find out what DT Swiss actually charged for the service?
  10. Hi Guys I'm going to buy an MTB - non technical riding i.e. forest gravel road, tracks, long distance & some mtb races .... not single track ...... to old for that! The Scott Spark 640 dual suspension is available at a good knock down price but it is a 26", however, specs are good. As I am quite heavy (105kg), not fat just a big guy & not so young anymore I need something that cushions the ride, I sold my hardtail 26" as I felt every bump & rut & gave up mtb as it was not enjoyable. My question is would the 26" Scott Spark 640 work for me or should I bite the bullet & get a 29" with lower component spec? I would appreciate some good advice.
  11. Hi there - I am about to buy my first bike. Been doing some research and visiting bike shops and decided on a 2014 Scott Spark 940. I must say it's pretty confusing with so many options available out there. I initially thought I could get something around 20k but soon realized its worth spending about 30k on something with good components and suspension. I plan to first get bike fit and then start doing some races - nothing too serious. If I really enjoy it and decide to do some proper races I want to be sure that my bike is good for this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

  13. Hi guys I just bought a 2nd hand 2005-ish aluminium Scott road bike with pretty decent components, for an intern(English for underpaid slave). This kid is fit and keen to learn and has arranged a payment plan with me. Things is, we got it for a good price because it has a hairline crack on the frame where the stem goes through to the fork. It looks benign but we need to weld it to make it safe. Problem is who can I trust not to ruin the bike and turn it into an expensive parts bike. Thanks
  14. My Scott MTB was stolen in Ixopo after a ride , please could any bike shops in the area or south coast look out for a white Scott Team withXT components trying to be sold to them... Will pay large reward for her safe return. Here hoping Warren Washaw70@gmail.com 0728009590
  15. So I bought a new Scott last week and rode it in the burger this weekend. I think I rode it a bit too hard and have subsequently SLIGHTLY bent my rim. My question is that apparently you can get the rim forged back into perfect condition, in my mind I'm thinking the rim is already weak from the bend now its going to be made even weaker from the forge? Is it worth the time and money Just to reiterate this is a very slight bend, I just know it was perfect and now that its not I'd like sort it out before it gets worse Thanks

  17. Hi hubbers My son has a Scott Aspect 910 MTB with shimano hubs and Alexrims and he does MTBing as a sport at school. I want to know which upgrade will be better a complete wheelset and if that which make and why or just replacing the hubs with ones with sealed bearings.
  18. Wife have a Scott Spark 60 26er which I am trying to save some weight on. It currently has ZTR Alpine wheels with Hope hubs and fitted with Shwalbe Racing Ralph's tubeless,, these made a huge improvement in her riding and dropped over 1kg. I am no looking to save a bit more weight and the list is as follows: Shimano Deore m590 crank to XT, is it worth the $$$, how much will I save? Shimano m520 pedals to m540, considering this? KCNC seat post and handle bars to replace stock. What else should I consider changing? Bike has done about 3000km. Wife weights 56kg so not much room to lighten her anymore, we doing Sani together and am trying to make the ride a bit easier.
  19. As the heading says what to get.... Will be looking for 2 ... 1 for me and one for the father in law as he is also ready for an upgrade... So to start - Santa Cruz Bronson - AWESOME - But too much cash and some of our mates have them already... So .... what about ... Cannondale Jekyll 27.5 OR Scott Genius LT OR Yeti SB 75 OR 2014 GT Force OR do we wait for the new Sanction?? THEN - the holy grail - BUT you can only get it in like August YT Capra WHAT ARE YOUR GUYS THOUGHTS????
  20. Hey everyone I'm looking at getting me a road bike but once again the choices are so flippen much I am more into mountain biking, this will be to do the odd road event down in Cape Town. Heres the short list and pricing Scott: Speedster S20 R13999 (105) ***CR1 20 R20999(105) carbon*** No price on the CR1 30(Sora ) Merida: Scultura CF904 R18899(105 ) carbon Scultura 904 R13999(105 ) Giant: TCR C3 R15499(Tiagra) carbon TCR C2 R16899(Ultegra/105) carbon Cannondale CAAD8 6 R13499(Tiagra) CAAD8 5 R14999(105) Didn't get price on CAAD10 Specialized: Roubaix SL4 Sora R18999 - Carbon frame Allez Elite Tiagra R13999 ***Roubaix SL4 sport 105 R23999*** ***Tarmac SL4 sport 105 R23999*** ***These two are "WOULD LIKES", OVER BUDGET! What would you guys recommend? As you can see there is lots to choose and I am super confused!!!!! Do I go for the Roubaix with a crappy Sora groupset but carbon "BEES-KNEES" frame? Really liking this but the grouset is very off putting Or do I go Aluminium frame with 105 groupset with some change to do a wheel upgrade? Looking at the CAAD8 5 in this regard The Giant TCR C2 looks like flippen good value, Carbon frame with good groupset. Any other suggestions are welcome! Thanks
  21. Hi guys, as i dont know much about mtb i weas wondering if this is a ok deal. i know its not a disc brake and not a 29er etc, but as a starter bike just so i can get out thewre with my son's while i save for a proper bike what do you guys think? the owner works with me and wants R750 for it. i think its ok but hten again i dont really know what all to look for in a mtb as i'm normally a roadie. apparently its a 21speed and changes gears on the handle grip(which i dont know if this is a good thing or not as i'm starting out) advice appreciated. %5Burl=http%3A//s1252.photobucket.com/user/ScottRSA/media/Bike1.jpg.html%5D
  22. Hi All, Me and my wife are looking to get into mountain biking, mostly for riding on gravel roads on the farm. My budget is R6k max per bike as we need to make sure we're really into it. I'm located in Polokwane Limpopo and one of our local dealers has Scott Aspect 620 in that price range. Is that a good buy or do you guys have some better alternatives? I am prepared to travel to PTA or JHB to get the bikes from there if need be. Any advice will be appreciated thanks
