  1. ...... this morning as we were passed by and left for a dead by a MTBr on a 26" (can you Adam and Eve it!) White Merida while we were rolling on amongst others a Pinarello Prince (the Prince of Spain version no less) and a Specialized Tarmac Pro with deep section carbon wheels was 'DEAR LORD LET HIM NOT BE A HUBBER' For those who may think I am just spinning a yarn there are pics available of the bikes in question ......... If you were that guy riding passed Rietvlei at about 7AM this morning hats off to you
  2. Hi Hubbers I sold my Scott scale 50. Now I need a new bike. Going 29er full suss. Options: Scott spark 920 with crest wheelset, also converted to 2x10, maxxis ikon rear and swhalbe racing ralph snake skin front tyre. 2 bottle cages incl...R37900. Or to persue Specialized epic carbon comp priced R39000 without any extras. Seems like specialized concept stores are not really negotiable on their prices...???? I would love some advice please guys!
  3. Hi Guys Im looking at bringing in some bikes from Indonesia and was wondering if anyone has ever dealt with Adira sport in Medan Indonesia? The bike prices seems to good to be true but if anyone has dealt with them please give me reviews on service and product quality. If I get good reviews from the guys that has dealt with them before the hubbers will be in for some good prices on Giant, Specialized and Cannondale bikes. Thank you for your reviews.
  4. Hi I will refrain from the "which should I choose" question, but I would like some background input since I can not find a way to ride both bikes on reasonably technical terrain back-to-back. So, I am looking for some input from anyone who has ridden both the Specialized Stumpjumper Carbon hardtail and Cannondale F29. Handling characteristics, "comfort" and climbing efficiency? - are they pretty much close enough that it would make no difference to a weekend worrior and occasional stage racer or are there distinct differences that shine through? Much appreciated. V
  5. Early July this year, I went to help my mate at the Fauresmith Horse Endurance Race in the town of Fauresmith, Free State. This a 3 day 200km event. At the end of the first day, when we got the horse fed, recovered and stabled, I went for a ride on my bike. The setting in this Karoo town is beautiful and the weather was very favourable. So I went out for an hour, returning just before dark. The way the area is set out, is the horses are stabled in an area which is fenced off and next to this is an area, also fenced off where the humans live. People bring caravans and erect tents on demarcated sites. ACCORDING TO THE RULES, NO HORSE MAY BE IN THE HUMAN LIVING AREA. I entered the human camp and was about 150m away from our caravan, when I saw a horse galloping at full speed along the graded road towards me. I tried to get out of the way of this obsessed beast, but was not able to do so. The horse collided with the rear end of the bike and sent me flying. The damage to the bike was a broken rear triangle of my Specialized Epic, 2007 model. The chain rings are bent and obviously the wheel is buckled. Out of interest, the tyre did not lose pressure. I sustained a severely bruised left quad, which has needed fluid being drained off it a number of times. My leg is still sore and has scar tissue damage. Need to have further physio carried out on it. I am not sure if the horse was injured. Too concerned for my own wellbeing. I left Fauresmith very early the next morning to return to Johannesburg for medical treatment. I don't know who owns the horse. I have sent letters to the organisers claiming compensation for the damages to the bike, but they say it has been referred to their lawyers, meaning I need to employ a lawyer to try get some money out of them. Hence my post in the classified section, where I am looking for a rear triangle for this bike. All I can say is that should the horse have made contact with me half a metre closer to the front wheel, I personally would have been struck. The outcome would have been extremely severe, broken bones at least. Thank goodness that did not happen.
  6. Hi Hubbers I am posting this with a sad heart as my wifes Specialized Jett (white, black, red) with full XT was stolen on Friday from within our kids school grounds in Tokai while my wife ran in to fetch our kids. The brazenness of the theft was astounding as "security" was within shouting distance and parents everywhere collecting their kids. Still images from video show the bike on the back of a Nissan 1400 bakkie as it left the grounds. Number plate was hand written apparently so no help there. Take extra care of your bikes out there, even a minute out of site provides an opportunity. Sadly the bike was not insured but if anyone comes across a Jett as in the pictures going cheap....please drop me a message.
  7. This may have been discussed before but I am interested to know why Specialized have continued to use a QR on the front fork of the Epic, as opposed to the 15mm thru axle used by most of the other manufacturers on their 29ers. They use a thru axle on the back so why not stiffen up the front end with one too? Specialized are obviously considered a "market leader" as it were so they must have a reason but if anyone knows what it is I would appreciate if you could share.
  8. I did a faceplant on tar at 34km/h on Saturday. This helmet probably kept me out of hospital and major trauma. Face got pretty banged up, but the noggin is safe. The helmet is knackers but did its job. Thank you Specialized for quality products.
  9. In April this year I was ecstatic when I finally bought my new Specialized Epic from BMT in Stellenbosch. From the word go their staff were friendly, helpful and very efficient. This included small little things like the setup, boxing (at no cost) my previous bike and shipping it to its new owner in Johannesburg. Furthermore, I immediately noticed the great care and pride which Trevor and the rest of team take in their work which is evident in the absolutely spotless condition of bikes leaving the shop each time looking like new! After many “funtastic” hours on my new machine I however started to notice a strange noise coming from my rear shock and immediately took it to BMT for attention. Again, Trevor was very helpful in assessing the problem and assuring me that it would be taken care of in no time. True to his word they immediately started on the bike, removed the shock and send it to Specialized to check. However, I was really impressed this afternoon when I was informed that the bike was ready for pick-up, a same day turnaround, unbelievable?! Furthermore, on pickup I was informed that the old shock was replaced with a brand new one, no questions asked (thanks Specialized). Finally, I also noticed that my previously dirty bike was cleaned to Trevor’s standard (spotless)! All at no cost to me! What can I say but thanks guys! This level of service is extremely rare and much appreciated! Keep up the good work!
  10. (2011 Specialized Stumpjumper HT carbon expert 29er) Shoe...thats a mouth full Want to buy a second hand one (getting it for a good price). I've read a lot of bad things about the avid brakes and factory fitted wheels. Other than that, is this a good racing bike? And how is the feel and weight compared to other racing bikes? Any hubbers who own one or have done so in the past, please help me out. Thanks
  11. The organisers of the FNB Wines2Whales (W2W) Mountain Bike (MTB) Events are ecstatic to announce that leading bicycle brand Specialized is now the official bicycle partner of these much loved MTB Events. Click here to view the article
  12. I would really appreciate it if somebody may have picked up a black specialized bike computer on Contermanskloof please send me a SMS or call me on 0833833667 thanks Dave
  13. So I have been riding a belt drive for a while now. Another hubber, make that great hubber approached me wanting a SS belt rive. It's a challenge, you need a split rear triangle and then an eccentric BB or sliding dropouts. Match this with a good geometry, brand reputation and Reynolds 853 tubing and the options are very limited. In steps the S.I.R. 9. Dips got a good friend of his to engineer the split for us . The belt rive goodies took a while. No expenses were spared. Only the best components will do. Chris King headset. Chris King hubs laced on to Sun Ringle Inferno rims. Bio eccentric V2. XT cranks with XTR BB. Seatpost is the Ritchey Trail WCS carbon post. Ritchey C 260 stem. Ritchey trail bar. Yawyd Cap. Niner carbon fork. Specialized BG grips. Shimano XTR brakes. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3729/9455131263_7cb1a529e1_b.jpg IMG_3443 by OddPix1, on Flickr

    20 inch mtb

Hi guys, I want to get a 20 inch mtb for my son for his birthday in September, I want to get him something decent, so far the Momsen and the Specialized Hot Rock come out tops, difference is the Momsen is rigid and the Specialized has a Suntour fork. Momsen goes for R4k and Spez about R3,200, leaning toward the Momsen just from a weight point of view, the forks on most 20 inch bikes seem to be a waste of time. Any thoughts or suggestions ?
  15. If your bike has been stolen then it might be worth to call Inspector Van der Watt on 082 411 2545. They have some good bikes in their possesion and hopefully the owners can help him. 17. Im in the market for my second bike, want to move to 29ers. And struggling to choose. Any advice? Ive narrowed it down to Scott Scale 940 and Specialised Carve Pro, The Scott has better components, but people rave about the Specialized frames. Would be cool to get some advice from anyone who knows these bikes. And I'm open to other suggestions to (budget is R15000 - R20000)
  18. I recently bought myself a Specialized stumpjumper expert. The bike came stock with a Sid Brain 80mm. Now the question is. Can I use the spacers from my Sid RLT to make it 100mm. If so who is the best person to send this to in the pta area? Cheers Meent
  19. Good day everyone I am new to this forum, and glad to be part of it! I bought a 2012 Stumpjumper FSR Comp earlier this year, and it is awesome! One thing that I have noticed is that mud gets sprayed onto/into the rear linkages through the rear wheel. I dont mind getting sprayed by mud, but dont mess with my Stumpy! So what I did is I designed a rear fender, I am a mechanical engineer by the way, to protect the linkage bearings both the top links and bottom pivot. Then I laser sintered the model in Nylon SLS, I have access to 3D printers etc. I have attached some pics of the fender installed on my bike. I would like to see what the reaction is to this product. It is ridiculous for me to see that the fenders that one can buy, only protects the rider. If I get many responses I would like to series produce these fenders. I can also tweak the design to work on all Specialized FSR suspensions, and later to fit the other FS bikes. Excuse the photos, I snapped them last night after work.
  20. Although it is a different year, Max Knox (EAI Solutions/Specialized) will face exactly the same challenge as in 2012 when he lines up at the start of the MTN Hilton Dirt Fest on Sunday (28 July). Click here to view the article
  21. My friend has a crack on his frame(seat post) and specialized does not want to come to the party.........they say he damaged the bike while falling? anybody with contacts to help out ?
  22. Has anyone made the move from a wider Specialized saddle to a Fizik? Specifically from a wider Specialized saddle, 155mm to the narrow Fizik - I dont think Fizik offer varying widths. I currently use a 155 mm S-Works Chicane which isn't too comfortable and have been wondering about trying a Fizik Arione R1 which seems to be very popular.
  23. Hi Guys So I've tried to find out about this, but can't seem to find a definitive answer. I've got a 2011 Specialized Epic Comp 29er which has a "Custom SRAM S-1250, 7050 alloy arms, 10-speed triple, GXP spindle, S: 170mm" crankset and a SRAM GXP, outboard bearing bottom bracket. I'm looking at buying a "Sram S2210 BB30 Crank. 2X10 (38/24)" to replace the current crankset, can any confirmed what the compatibility of this is i.t.o. of the bottom bracket? Please can somebody help me, or at least point me in the right direction to finding an answer, I'm a bit of a noob with regard to this! Cheers Nick
  24. It seems there's been an increase in the number of what are being labelled as "all mountain" helmets - mtb-specific helmets with increased rear coverage for more risky trail / all mountain type riding... First there was the Fox Flux, and Giro's Xen and Hex... Then Specialized jump on board with the Vice And now we've got offerings from 661 and Lazer, as well as the Giro Xar - the replacement for the Xen (as well as other manufacturers jumping on board) What do think? Are you riding with an "all-mountain" lid, or if not do you plan to? Do you like the extra protection, or does the slight increase in weight and bulk put you off? I'm curious to see what the hub thinks. Sadly I think we'll only get half of these in SA...
