whenever i eat a "special diet" i come short frankly. others may disagree with me but i say dont change too much in what you eat, many people get carried away with carbo loading and what all, at the end, unless your diet is completely disfunctional, eating what your used to with perhaps some more carbs relative to other studff will see you right

Hi hubbers,

What advice could you give for a novice with regards to eating preperation leading up to the big event?

It's a 100km funride. Don't stress. Eat normally, and have a decent breakfast the morning of the ride at least an hour before the start.

yeah..just eat normally, you have already reduced your training load, so the energy stores are already filling up.. maybe just eat a good meal the night before and a good breakfast on the race morning

+500, eat like you always eat, breakfast will be the most crucial meal on that day.

Take a snack for when you are waiting before the start.

And a beer for when you walk up suikerbossie? Or is that just me?

A1 to that! In the past i messed-up many races by doing too much special eating. Now i just keep the eating simple and lean.

Ranrock - have a look at what worked well for yourself in the past - and use that. Avoid all "magic" stuff.

Stick to what you usually eat for the week, leaning slightly more towards carbs.

Increase your carbs and decrease your protein on the Saturday.

Have a decent high carb breakfast 3 hours before, and an energy bar 1 hour before your start.

Works for me.

Eat like you always do. Dump preparation is far more critical. Drop the load at home before you leave - the toilets at the Argus can be smelled from outer space.
