Jeepers, leaving a woman alone, whether or not in club kit?

I hope everyone at least asked if she needs help - to answer 'no' is her perogative and perhaps that's what happened?

Hey, it's tough in Africa. Harden the f*&k up, is my advice. Oh, and welcome to SA...

Yes, and if a lady gets killed, raped or injured due to this tipe of action, will you have the same comment....

Just wonder what your reply would have been if this was a female family member of yours?

A comment like yours does not even justify a reply.

Grow the f*&k up!!!!

Lucky you didn't reply then.

Were you present at this event? If so, did you stop? If not, then this thread is meaningless hearsay. At least post the club's name so they can say their bit, or someoine can take it up with them, maybe you could seeing as you have invested so much in this already?

Not hear to shame the club, they know who they are and already got an appology after posting this on pm.

So my "investment" did pay off;

It was not "meaningless hearsay".

Your posts was not realy constructive was it? except to bring out your ...... wonderfull attitude to other cyclists

I almost crashed into a lady two weeks ago...it was around 5:15 am, dark. I almost hit her because she was wearing black and red, had no lights and was standing almost in the road with a flat. :o She pinched her spare tube, so I gave her my spare. I pumped the tyre and checked the front, which she was happy with. It was no more than 2 bar (roadbike)and had a leaky valve. She looked very confused when I told her that cateyes and low pressure do not work together.

I offered to ride with her in the mornings...

Next morning, at the meeting spot, the tyre with a leaky valve is flat, as in rim to the tar. I lecture her...again  , but do not sacrifice another tube. On the ride, in the dark she insists on riding next to me, in the road, still no lights and in same black and red outfit. Watched two cars almost take her out :o

Needless to say, I don't ride with her anymore....she just does not listen

So you witnessed this? Did you stop?

Ag no...come on...READ... a club member appologised therefore, and thus the matter is now closed.

crumbs - some stressed out people up north! Been on plenty of group training rides (mtb mostly) here in cpt and there are so many gentlemen. Particularly our night ride bunches tend to regroup regardless of the gender of the people who've fallen off the back.

It's all about the communication - if the group is "we ride moer fast and if you pop we don't stop" then it was the ladies fault.

If it was a "we nurse everyone along no matter what the pace" then it's the clubs fault.

I love the hub - we spent hours and hours making up situation then getting pissed off or happy about them - the truth is not important here

Tasteless (esp in the context of this thread) but nevertheless funny:

Q: Do you believed in clubs for women?

W. C. Fields's answer: Yes, if every other form of persuasion fails.

Swiss - agree with you totally - we have a bunch ride each morning, which consists of many differnet clubs. Would never leave a woman alone on this ride - We read about incidents basically everyday - look after your fellow cyclists.

Anyway, as a lady myself, I don't see why the fact that she is a lady should matter. She chose to live it up in this male dominated sport so she needs to be able to take care of herself. We seem to be just 'equal' when it suites us.

Equal but different. Women are physically smaller and weaker than men, hence they make easier targets for mugging, hence women should ride in groups. Its all very well to say she must look after herself - that's would she did - she joined a group ride. They undertook to accommodate her (notwithstanding that is a 'male dominated sport') and then failed to and have subsequently apologised.

Your derogatory attitude is really not warranted. As a lady you should be encouraging more ladies to cycle, not put them off.

The pace wasn't the problem. She did not pop and didn't need to be nursed. A puncture can happen to and hold up even the strongest riders.

And you shouldn't (1) assume to know me and lump me into your narrow categories and (2) stick to the topic.

This is sometimes so typical of the hub...

Snotty comments, personal attacks...

C'mon, what happened to good old South African hospitality? Here is a damsel in distress - and a top international cyclist...

And all some of you can come up with - "It is her own fault..."

If this is how true South African cyclists behave, then please wear a shirt that tells me to leave you the hell alone next time you break down on the side of the road and I gladly will!!!

Wat te erg is is te erg!!!
