I know this is meant to go into tech section but there are more eyes on the rant and rave section. So I want to get a Polar heart monitor. I want to loose weight so was wondering which model to buy. Dont want a wrist watch but rather something I can stick on my bike that will also give me avg speed etc. Any advise?

If you're looking for something to use on the bike only, any one in the CS range will do it. If you are planning to run a little too, then it will become expensive, as you will probably need something in the S range.

Get a Garmin Edge 500. Better software than polar and no need for wheel magnet and speed sensor etc. as it is GPS driven.

???? Please explain? One of the reasons why I stick with polar is their unbelievable content and options in the software.

Exclusive. It all depends on:

1. What your budget is.

2. How analytical you are.

3. How complex you want your excersize to be.

4. Do yo prefer mtb or road (gps nice for mtb).

5. If you are a vitality member.

6. Only cycle or multisport.

7. If you want a powermeter as well.

you should maybe look at the CS 300 as you can use the HRM as both a bike computer and you can use it if you go to the gym or for a run

If I am not mistaken, if you upload your results onto the discovery website you earn points and can therefore get discounts etc

But maybe have a look on the polar website at all the different models available and see which unit suits your needs the best

i have had the polar CS 200 (with cad for my road bike), and it is the BOMB

it does everything you need.

it really does job.

Having said this I am led to believe that the sigma HR products on CRC are very very brilliant and at good prices as well.

Yebo, you receive 150 basis points as well as 50 bonus points by uploading the results to polar. Helps in getting to gold with Vitality giving you better benefits.

So try to get a unit that is uploadable.

I do not know the c series that well. BUT keep your eyes open for a 625x or 725x in the classifieds. If was the top watch up to a couple years back and is an amazing watch. Polars also last forever and service is top notch so do not worry about buying 2nd hand.

A good idea is to have a look at watch watches gives you the infra-red option, I would recommend one with altitude as well......nice to see how steep, long and high it is and the relation to your HR.

I do not know what the cheapest garmin is, but that will be your best option if you really want the GPS.

i would also recommend this one! R1790 (including speed sensor, bar mount and hrm chest strap) it is a wrist watch yes- but you do get a handlebar mount, and you can use it in the gym and running. I still have the old S520, these things last ages, replaced the battery for the first time after 4years  mine now 5years old. Polar after sales service is good aswell
