Whats a bike worth?

So you think I've under or over valued it then?

Based in what you have done and the approximate value of the stuff you didn't change I reckon you are in the ballpark (R10-R12k). Don't forget the extras as well. By this I mean bottle cages, tubby bag and contents, computer, bar ends etc, Add these up and you could easily add R2k to your value which will be lost if not specified. As a check, go to your LBS and see what the cost of an equivalent replacement bike is and if possible get a written quote to keep on file and MOST of all get the quote updated every year as the replacement cost will go up as the value of the bike goes down and you don't want to be left out of pocket if the inevitable happens!

Good points, I must actually get my full suspension re-valued as well(thanks for reminding me), what with all the upgrades there too.

I think if I was to sell the fork & the HOPE C2brakes I would get very little for them now. Old technology now, although they still work great, the brakes are a small issue (new ones next month I think)

I wasn't paying attention. What group, wheels and fork do you have on? I was saying you don't get a lot for R11 - R12. SLX is kind of middle of the range these days if you exclude the non series components you get on Makro bikes.

Mavic 317 disc rims with hope hubs front & rear, the fork is an old Marzocchi Bomber(2002), the groupset is a mix of XT & SLX.

This groupset is full SLX with XT rear derailleur

I am sure your hubs are higher spec than these being Hope. I would think those MAvic rims are higher spec than these Alex rims

I don't know that fork at all so not sure how the replacement would compare to what is on this bike

Hi.

Not sure if this is the correct thread but the title sounded correct. Mods please move if incorrect.

A friend of mine has a vintage bike and is wanting to sell it. Thought i would post on here for ideas on price as i have no clue before posting in the classifieds.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Rough guess +/- R1500

I would think it would be worth more than that, probably around R4,5k to R5k.

But then again, it's only worth what someone will pay for it - not much stuff is being sold for what it is worth these days I'm afraid.

From somewhere in the deepest heart of the interwebs:

"1987 – DX-3000 in a nice yellow/black fade paint with Tange Champion #2. Goofy component mix though. Much like the eclectic mix found on the ’85 Team. Shimano L525 SIS RD, B126 crank… goofy stuff. DX-6000 was top that year."

So, looks like it is a 1987 and was mid-range with a mid range mix of parts. Panasonic is Japanese and solidly built. The 1987 was built with a Tange steel tubeset, so it will be a great ride, but, sadly, they are not very popular with retro bike fanatics. I think it will fetch about R2000 to 3000 with all in fair running condition. It will be a great bike to use as a classic ride, but the real collectibles are the Italians. Totally unfair, I know.
