chris_w_65 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Do they have the same IQ as monkeys or lower? This morning at 5:30 I am riding through a green light, I have lights on my bike. Next thing a taxi jumps the light from the side and has to swerve to miss me.Towards the end of the ride I am busy overtaking a group of cyclists and a taxi wants to take the slipway to turn left off Witkoppen and go north up William Nicol. He can see there are cyclists going straight. What does he do? He starts hooting and turns left between the bicycles and hangs out of his window and swears because we are in his way. Anybody with half a brain would have assessed the situation and either accelerated to reach the slipway before the bikes did or slowed down to reach it after they had passed.
baie-sukkel Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 (edited) Not trying to stir here at all, but I have found that the majority of South Africans are driving this way you just described"If you can't beat them, then join them" I personally find it f....ing sad.I see as many WHITEs driving like this these days. javadude Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 I have a feeling that its just too late to change things. We're on this slippery slope and theres no if's or maybe's about things getting better. We either have to learn to live with things the way they are or get out. Â That taxi driver is a prime example, but I also see on a daily basis the biggest idiots known to mankind on our roads. They come in all shapes and sizes and in various colours the rainbow. If I continue to let them upset me I'm going to be pretty pissed off for the rest of my life, because theres just seems to be more and more of them. Â So what is the answer:Â Shoot them? Thats alot of people to kill without drawing too much attention to yourself.Educate them? Ja right!I know, lets go on a protest ride? 30 years later the Argus is the biggest protest ride on the planet. Its still not working.Ignore them? Well, thats what i'm trying to do, I just hope they dont end up killing me while i'm doing so. At least i'm not eternally upset and angry.Insert your own solution here:
Sharkie 2 Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 I have generally not had any issues while cycling with taxi's but it may be that they have a different mindset in PTA if I dare say so, other motorists are more of a danger to me

Lately even when I've been driving TAXI guys seem to swing from the one extreme to other though, no middle ground in behavior.
Christopher Brunsdon Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 As a Mod I object to this thread: In no way does any monkey deserve to be belittled by being compared to a Taxi driver.

Oh, and I love the classic excuse: "the taxis do it, so that's why I do". Well done morons.
tombeej Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) +1000 I get more respect from most taxi drivers than I do from regular car drivers when I'm on two wheels. Oh, and I love the classic excuse: "the taxis do it, so that's why I do". Well done morons.  Ja I agree totally TNT1. Taxi drivers the worst? Well, not in my experience. On my long weekend rides here on the n.coast of KZN, I ride the regional roads that connect the country towns, often passing through rural townships and villages. A lot of taxis pass me, and for most of the ride I get a hoot from the driver to say hello, and a wave as they pass. At the pick up spots where the taxis collect people I often get shouts of greeting, whistles and laughter as I go by, and I enjoy the friendly banter and chirps. It makes these long rides such a pleasure. Then there are the tiny minority that are speeding, give me zero room and show no consideration.  But let's be clear, there are just as many whities, indians, etc., farmers, rich gautengers in their million rand SUVs, all behaving the same way on my route. So, in my personal experience, the bad ones are an even mix of all types. It's not possible for me to say which group is substantively worse than the others. But certainly the most festive, friendly and fun drivers on my local country roads are taxi drivers. Sorry to burst your bubble.
