I rode with a guy on a full suspension Giant + knobblies with Red Specialized Kit, from Fish Hoek to Simonstown, the guy was FLYING!!! Think he started in TT or soemthing along those lines. Would really like to know what he did, but he was putting the hammer down, BIG time!!

There were several that started in VA, VB & Subvets.

We passed a lot of them in Newlands and along the M3.

(I rode in group C)

Not a great training ride for Epic. Its a bit risky.

I would hate to have a silly prang in the Argus and miss out on the Epic because of that.

A lot of these guys also did not have the comfort of the bunch and rode the race basically on their own. makes an average of 30km/h plus quite an achievement.

For a time like that he surely must have done some work to the gear ratios? Otherwise he would have to get to some scary cadence to maintain the speed needed.....!

Wow .....Anyway I wish I could do a time like that on a road bike!!

Don't know about fastest, but definitely the most stylish was the dude on a black Morewood with knobblies. Don't think too many Morewoods have done the Argus.

And I almost forgot, one of my mates did it on a full on downhill Mountain Cycle rig a few years back, maybe that's right up there with the Morewood for style.

Did it 2008, 2009 on Morewood shova with knobblies ( you don't put slicks on a shova) and Yesterday on my On One 456 with knobblies. (4h46min)

Basically rode all the way on my own, cannot keep up with groups, not fit enough.

So for next year it's either a road bike or train harder/ride more long distance/get off the damn couch.

I did a 3 hours 39 minutes on my Bulls 29er. I heard about the guy in the VB group, heard it was a 26er. My brother saw him as he was in the same group. Apparently he managed to hold on till Simons Town. Big respect dude. My biggest issue was running out of gears on the straights. Great race well done to all.

Thx boet. I think the guy with the black Morewood could have been me. I rode with a black Morewood Zula. Unfortunately not that quick (did a 4:06), but at least I was looking good while going slow!

I saw way too many people with full suspension bikes and slicks, especially Giant Anthems. Sad.... I would never put slicks on my baby.

That said, I had fun racing the mtb's downhill. We had a few of us racing down the road to Ocean view and one poor guy on a mtb was trying his hardest to keep up, didn't know someone could pedal at such a high cadence, lol.

There were 3 guys riding close to us on BMX's! Respect to those guys, although the ones clothing, or lack of, was a bit questionable on a "family" ride. The girls were giggling, the guys didn't look too happy :-)
