I believe those that use Assos have never complained.

It is a great brand.

If you don't wanna spend da moola, do not throw stones at those who choose to... -_-

It is my moola. My choice. My bum. :w00t:

You will never hear them complain. No one ever complains when something expensive does not work for them.

Assos Mille is really good, but well worth a look at is Etxeondo. IMHO the fit is better and the chamois are on a par anyday, at a fair whack lower price (R1500 - R2000)

If you interested PM me...

Maybe have a look at Vermarc. bought one of each to check them out:

Both are awesome, just ordered another one of the relax this morning - gonna use them for the epic.

I also have 3 sets of cape storm that goes for 500 or 600 bucks (Nitros I think). Gonna use them aswell on the shorter days

The vermarcs are def better than the Cape Storms, even though I like them very much too.

My experiece: You don't need anything better the cape storms- although someting better is nice.

90% of comfort is about saddle fit and avoiding chafing. Domething like Chamois Butter or Mark 2 Shammy cream works equeally well.

Too be honest, I can't think that shorts can be any better than the R1100 Vermarc in terms if comfort. the Vermarc Red one looks awesome though.

Spending R3000 on assos just sounds stupid to me.

Stick with cape storm and if you really want to splurge because of a big multiday event etc spend a bit more. R3000 is just stupid for a pair of shorts. You are not getting any better quality, you are paying for marketing etc

Did the Epic on well used Anatomic and pretty new First Ascent shorts, no bibs, no problems, nothing. Milko balm and Fishum paste, quick shower after finish.

One year after the Epic the First Accent ones are falling apart: the sponge inside the chamois keeps moving and getting bunched up during the wash. Also been getting chaffed badly from them on recent long 7-8h rides, however I'm not nearly as conditioned as during the Epic, but I'm still pretty sure these are now no longer suited to longer rides. So basically they are fine, but I did not get close to the expected life I'd hoped for.

Just this week I got 3 sets of top end bibs from CRC for the FC (Giordana and Castelli I think, sorry about spelling), all well under R1k. Most reviewers of these said they are easily good as Assos at a fraction of the cost. There are PLENTY options out there before Assos, I personally think they are overpriced and the uninformed SA sheep minded consumer simply copies his mate, hence the massive market share..

Assos's brand value is not just in its bibshorts, Riders...

Wait till you consider their autumn and winter gear!

Yummyyyyy!!!

Exactly. The first team I rode for had kit made by Castelli. Awesome stuff.

What I really do not understand on the Hub is that every time someone wants to buy something decent/slightly more expensive, they get flamed for it. Bibs, cars, bikes, etc, etc...

Why all the jealeousy?

Hell, if you have the money buy the most expensive what can afford. If you do not have the money don't try to flame things you can't afford, it is bad style.

p.s: The Mille is better for longer rides. If your budget only allow Uno buy them with the certanty that you still get quality products.

I certainly didn't post out of jealousy. the OP asked for opinions. I have ridden assos, and many other brands as well. I do not think assos are worth their inflated price. There are better bibs out there for less money. If you want to buy them, go ahead, but then don't ask the opinion of a public forum and cry when they give it.

I dont even shave my legs (yes one of those) so you definately wont find me in a borat look-a-like contest. ;)

That is a really weird statement? All bibs look like that, don't they?

Besides - the one in question costs half of the price of a F1 Mille and I promise you the chamois is on par and the fit is better - I rode that exact bib on the first 3 days of 2010 J2C and that was over the worst section of grass tufts you can imagine , on a hardtail.

It is a truly good bib at a very good price, but if you want to spend R3k on an Assos bib - I tried to point to a useful alternative.
