Random indeed.

Windtunnel model? Now used as promotional hardware?

I don't remember this "Walrus teeth" nose configuration ever being present for MV... or am I mistaken?

Ja I'm also stumped. It is clearly missing the HALO as well, and it just kinda looks "off" somehow. I'm going with it being a PR model that was probably some iteration that never made it to production.

Klap some decals on it and no one would be the wiser, unless you actually follow F1.

While I was taking the pics a tannie asks me if this is some go-cart or something, or what type of car is it ? . . Wragtig, net in die Brakkenfel.

If it happens.... ticket prices are going to be pretty expensive. Basically the host has to pay (a couple of million dollars) for the privilege of hosting a GP and hope to make back the money via ticket sales, etc.

It’s an expensive exercise, think around 100 million dollars and guarantees for 5 years. Then I dare say Kayalami ( assuming it’s there) will need much work. As it’s now privately owned I can’t see the owners footing that bill which will run into tens of millions. If it’s a street circuit the amount that needs to be spent is huge too.

Let’s face it, motor racing she is not beeeg in za, the likelihood of government funding this is unlikely. So unless sir Hamilton plans to foot the bill here this is a non starter imho.

ticket prices would be north of 2500 for race day I reckon. But for a small echelon of ppl mostly unaffordable. From that aspect brazil is relatively similar though.

It won't happen , people that think it will are so naive its sad

Any person from the fia that comes for whatever inspection (which kyalami doesn't meet my miles btw ) is going to see all the opportunistic crime that goes on here (might even fall victim. themselves)

Is kyalami with in 10mins (might be less ) flight from a fully equipped hospital ? cause that's a big clause to be A F1 track ?

lets say it goes ahead , i can see atleast 5 people getting robbed and atleast one smashed and grabbed.(Excellent PR for a gp )

Crime has happened in Brazil and they still go. And the socio economic factors are not too dissimilar to za. Would be good for the image of F1 to have a race on every continent so there might be some “marketing” and “political “ factors at play. ZA and Brazil have similar gini’s too. Big difference is Brazil has a much larger population thus a larger portion of ppl with the means to go and Brazil has a racing culture.

the average South African has no interest in F1. Thus will not support the event.

quite a few hospitals within 10 minutes flight of Kaylami.

Okay then there's still the track it self that doesn't meet standards, i was at an office park that looks over the course in early2020 and those corners are fast and have like 1m of grass runoff (and they can't just extend the runoff cause the track switches back and runs along just the other side of that run off with just the big ass wall between)

Yes, the track would need a lot of work. That is a stumbling block for sure.

I think all of the issues you guys have highlighted with regard to Kayalami meeting FIA standards and requirements for hosting an F1 race meeting, are valid, but also attainable.

City of Joburg was a major sponsor of A1 GP, and I understand that the numbers are vastly different, but sponsorship/marketing can get the numbers together.

The upgrades required can also be met in the event that suites and paraphernalia sold over a guaranteed longer term. So it may have to be a 5-10 year agreement.

Crime is a risk even at European, Australian and American GP’s, and has happened but they still go. Same as Brazil and Mexico.

Motorsport is an Elitist sport. So the numbers who attend are largely made up of foreigners anyway, except for Europe. So the lower number of ticket sales to locals are what makes it a premium event.

Lets also not forget that F1 pays the host countries for broadcasting rights.

Given all the above, I agree that an F1 race in SA is still a pipe dream!

All true but I think the FIA retain all tv money. That’s the F1 product after all so I can’t seem them sharing that.

stand to be corrected on that.

Good thing then that Monaco has such massive run off areas. Come to think of it, the same can be said of Jeddah. Enormous run offs there too. Those tracks are so wide drivers are guaranteed to never smack the walls. . . oh wait, Nicholas Latifi has found walls on them too. Nevermind.

Jeddah pays South Africa's GDP for the privilege of hosting

Monnaco is the only track that doesn't pay hosting fees cause of its iconic history.

Kyalami doesn't have either of those...

Carlos with Ferrari for another two years , stoked for him

I think the bigger thing to take away from this is Ferrari are starting to see the surname didn't give Shumie jnr magic driving abilities ...
