Ja, but still - It will still cost you more than R20k per person!

Apart from the entrance fee the 2010 Epic cost me not more than R5000 including bike parts etc. It doesn't have to cost you R20k.

it's a far cry from R3500 per rider hubby paid for his epic the year it was introduced.

Not much has changed except the entry fee and that the ride stays in one area longer, thus less logistics.

Thanks for all the great advicethumbup1.gif

Someone has asked for my entry but has not called me yet.

So it looks like I'll let this one go and try again next year as planned, money is too tight this year to pay the full entry and wait to get half back.

Thanks again.

Hey guys and gals. I also have access to an early bird entry - Not going to use the opportunity , but willing to let someone else have it. Let me know!

The Epic is a money making racket...

The first year the entry fees were allot, but managable, I think it was just over R10k back then. Then ever since they hooked the fish with the first event, they ever so steady jack the entry fee up, and the sucker fish keep on coming back for more.

You telling me, with a straight face, that the expenses have trippled in the meantime? R35k to ride a race, and then allot of needed stuff isn't even included?

Same as with the Otter Trail Run I did two years ago. R1800 entry fee. Allot but I paid it. The next year I was keen again, but alas, now its R2200. I don't even know how much it'll be next time around, probably R2500+.

Ain't no wayz china... Won't do it.

Really does this happen i thought there was a hundred year waiting list??

The organisers oversubscribe to more than the race capaticy, because they anticipate a lot of drop outs and obviously want to refund your money (and lets face it who is ready to ride 1 month before the event). The unlucky handfull who drop below the quota (600 teams) will not get refunded and generally sell for very little of donate it to development teams. I know that two Songo.info development teams got entries days before the race from generous riders, and both teams finished! One rider was 18 years old! Respect from Kyamandi! Also respect for Songo! :)

I also feel that this is a event you have the to with the partner you really intend to do it with. Its suppose to be one of your best racing experiences and face it, its a shitload of money to pay and then worry if you might find a suitable partner. a Fiend of mine did the Sani 2 C with a partner "handed to him last minute". He was so frustrated. Allot of money down the drain
