The Schaapenberg and Thandi Trail systems works extremely well with guests having to purchase temporary boards and pay a deposit. They get temp boards and therefor its easy to spot any rogue trail users. You could even insist on them leaving their ID doc / drivers license at the ticket office if you are worried that they'll disappear with the temp board. I do Bot Hills about 4 to 6 times a year and would probably not be tempted into an annual fee arrangement at R300. I may be forced to do this if TBMTB Club can't sort out their current admin issues.

Yes i full agree - I do not live close enough to justify buying an annual permit, but I wouldn't have a problem leaving my drivers licence at the ticket office while I ride with a tempory number board

Will this work? Guests pay daily rate, but can only ride the trails if they are with a member. If there are any problems or issues caused by visitors, then you have a person that needs to report back. You should still be able to identify rogue rides fairly easy this way.

I stay a nice 10km ride from Meerendal, so have a TBMTB membership. Bottelary is nice for the odd once or twice a month outing when it's dry. Just a pity there are some idiots now ruining the option of riding there for the people who actually pay. Was always nice riding from Radish and then having a quick cappuccino afterward.

Do away with the armbands and only use number boards. Much easier to spot. Then any rider without a board is a rogue rider.

The guest boards do not need to be durable (and expensive) as they will only be used once. If tighter control is required, only annual permit holders can be allowed to buy guest permits.

The many entrances is a problem and it is not practical to man them all.

However, guest permits need not be available for purchase at all entrances. Just have guest permits on sale at entrances that are manned by the farms in any case during their normal business hours and keep the website updated with the relevant entrances and hours.

Ideally guest permits should be available from at least one entry point on Stellenbosch as well one on Brackenfell side of Bottelary Hill.

We are looking into a "guest" option but still need to finalise and decide whether to go ahead with it.

I do not see how they can justify that amount for the trails. i will be riding elsewhere. My Tygerberg Membership is one of the best investments there is.

Thats not going to work as you dont necessarily do a full loop, I sometimes start at hazendal then exit stellebosch side, and then do jonkers and take polka draai home, Which means they will never get their board back. The only way guest boards are going to work is if there are only 1 or two entrances to the trails and they are permanently manned.

politics

show me an orginization that doesn't have "politics". they've built some great trails which we get to ride at a very reasonable price. what's the problem?

There is something like acceptable level of politics, not chaotic circus induced disillusionment but hey this is not about the club. BTW i ride the tygerberg trails every evening as part of training, And as far as trails go They rank about 7th in my list of descent trails in a 50km surrounding area, its just that its convenient but besides that I would never say join the club we have awesome trails.

My suggestion is for disposable guest boards.

Alternatively it should be the responsibility of the annual permit holder "host" to ensure that the guest board be returned. If need be, the host's board number can be recorded when the guest board is issued.

Yes I am hard to please, The botterlary guys are doing a much better job and have 1/100th of the budget our beloved club has. They can come here for some lessons on trail building and maintenance.

it would be a real shame if we can't ride these trails without a year permit. The more trails needing year permits means the more congested the other trails get that we can ride on a pay per day basis.
