While I was riding along on a flat, smooth gravel road, I heard a loud bang. When I stopped, my rear tyre was of the rim. I am running ZTR Arch 29er rims with Racing Ralph Tubeless ready tyres. Tried to reseat the tyre using a pump, but no luck. Tried a bomb and it seated. As soon as I removed the nozzle from the valve, another loud bang and the tyre popped of again.

Was out of bombs and fitted a tube. This worked but the tyre had a bad wobble. It looked as if the tyre was not fully on the rim, but I couldnt get it to run true and I suspect that the tyre was deformed in some way.

Anybody came across this before? The tyres have done about 600km.

PS. did a rocky 55km race yesterday, and I hate to think what would have happened if the wheel popped off on one of those downhills...

We have the same problem with new ZTR Alpine rims and the Racing Ralphs ust tyres. The result is we have to change brand now after 2 years. What a pity as this is the best tyre we have ever ridden. The Specialized tyres similar to what Burry rides fits easily and stay on. I was told that the new Ztr rims should have non-ust tyres on it.

from my experiences once a tire pops off a rims its tickets for that tire, because most of the time the beading has stretched to the point where it can jump off the rim, so unless you wanting to run it with a tube, i'm guessing your going to have to get a new tire, because everytime you pump the tire to the pressure it was before its just going to jump off the rim  ( had the problem with a brand new rocket ron which i over inflated while fitting the new tire )

I witnessed this happen to one of those white Geax tyres. I thought it was 12h00 in CPT, but we were in the Eastern Cape. A cannon shot of note.

as far as I know (and I did ride his bike some weeks back ) Karl Platt is riding the crest rims with racing ralph evo snakeskin tires...

did they replace, or did you go over the max pressure? I hope they will replace mine, as it is a supposed to be a tubeless ready tire, and I had it in the pressure range all the time.

i never tried to have it replaced as it was a tubed tire (performance series) and it was also kind my fault in over pressuring it, so basically knew nothing was going to happen of it, plus a friend of mine is now using it with a tube and seems to be running fine.

but give it a shot, you never know what might happen, its not like you can use the tire tubeless at the moment? so will just sit in the cupboard unless someone is willing to take and use it?

Well as far as I know (and I did see him riding his bike at karkloof) Neil Petersen is riding with American Classics and Contis....

My money is on this explanation!!

definately a beading & seat problem...try and investigate the area that "wobbles' and let us know your finding...

Thanks to Vincent from Bulls bikes, they exchanged my tyre for a new one. I have lost some confidence in the tyre and have not fitted it yet. One of the people at a local bike shop suggested that it might be a problem with the rim rather than the tyre as, they have had it happen before on ZTR rims. Anyone aware of any problems? I am still of the opinion that mine was a tyre issue, as the tyre was completely warped after if came of the rim and the beading had a kink in that area.

I am considering buying Geax AKA or Saguaro, any thoughts? They are heavier, but I am willing to sacrifice for safety sake.

I have been using tubes in my tyres for 6 years now. I havent had an issue like this. Then again I dont think I would use tubeless ever either as I do alot of singletrack riding.

At 90kg I am running my tires at 2bar. When I went tubeless on my Giant Anthem 29er with Giant rims, I bought Bontrager tires and if you search the hub, you will find that these exploded of the rim at 1.4bar!! I also did not trust it and immediately exchanged the tires. I am now running for the last couple of months with Conti Mountain King 2,4 front and Race King 2,2 rear with no issues.

My advice - either the Contis or get the Maxxis Crossmark 29er LUST.

Thanks aggies. Spoke to a guy at my lbs running the contis. Said he had 2 punctures and a sidewall in the first week and will not use the contis again. Thought about the maxxis, but damn heavy. Seems like there is no option that will solve all the issues. I am leaning towards the geax, hope the issue mentioned on this thread was only with the white tyres.

Easy to say? What tyre is the most used at the Epic? Mt resources told me it was the Conti's. I went that route and not sorry for one moment. Most Pro's also seems to be on the Conti's.
