Hi Guys,

I need a new light for winter training. What you guys recommend would be the right amount of light to do the job?

I reckon it worth spending cash on this for safety reason, but I don't know how powerful it needs to be.

Cheers

Search Magic Lights on the Hub- you will get great attention from Brad Jackson. I bought a set for my handlebars and one that sits on my helmet. The latter avoids the blind spots on single track riding at night. These lights will get me through my night riding training for events coming up and the evening events I want to do. Probably best value for money and great beams. I have expereience of the R200 jobs from the LBS, but I now keep that one handy for when we get power cuts at home. It depends on what riding you want to do, but I would avoid the cheap ones. I know look forward to getting the new mount.

Not sure what type of riding you want to be doing but if you planning on MTB with some singletrack and switchbacks.

Consider a handlebar mounted light and a headlamp.

I have the Magicshine MJ808 on my hanldebars and the Ledlenser H7R on my helmet. Led Lenser (there is also the new H14R)

The Led Lenser is nice and light and very powerful. And best of all it is rechargeable through a usb connection.

I tried mounting the MJ808 on the helmet but that did not work so lekka, it is just too heavy and you have a battery cable to contend with. The new MJ808x looks smaller though but I am not familiar with it.

Those work from me, oh and I have the Ledlenser M7 as backup just incase ;)

I have got a sigma paid close to two grand for it. Its ok but not great. A friend of mine has the magic light I think he paid about R800 its way better than the sigma, if I ride in front of him I think there is a car coming from behind its that bright. I'm thinking of sticking the sigma in a drawer and buying a Magic.

Also have a look at the new safety lights by serfas, they have a nice rear usb rechargeable light in red, got one for about R250 I think, good rival to the Flea lights, its got side leds so is more visible and attaches under the seat to the rails with a silicone strap

Have a magic 816 on the bars and an 808 on my helmet. It's like daylight when we ride. Definetly recommend one on the helmet and one the bars.

Very good advice! Most definitely best combination. Brad don't sell the light directly anymore. CWC sell them for R2k now. I love the M7 actually throws more intense beam than magic shine

I use Lightstorm lights - going to use them in the Baviaans in August as well - very nice with long batery life and very strong lights. Contact Sampie on the hub or go to www.lightstormlights.co.za

Enjoy!

If you want to save the money for the lights ride with Tankman. His lights are flippen bright but he has a bit of an usnteady, jittery, cycling style which makes his lights swerving right to left and back all the time. sometime he briefly stops in the middle. So when in fornt of him it's daylight. Because I have hips like a whasp there's almost no shaddow from my upper body, just the huge calves shed some light.
